Happy family, happy pup......happy endings!

Cassie (formerly Cashew): Adopted! December 26, 2012

Picture
Carmen & Claudia were at the carwash when a dog took a peek inside the waiting room.  It was very fast so they didn’t get a good look, but they wanted to see her. Carmen went outside and saw this very thin, very shy puppy, drinking from puddles on the ground.  After a few minutes, the puppy left but they couldn’t stop thinking about her.  They decided that if they could find her, they would help her.  She was not too far away, digging in trash by the sports field.  She saw them approaching and was kind of scared, so she hid below a nearby car.  They were trying to get her to come out when two ladies got into the car, and started the engine.  The pup was right next to a tire, so they asked the nice lady to move slowly so as not to hurt the animal.  Cashew finally let them put a leash around her neck and gently came out from hiding.  They carried her to the car and went straight to the vets.  By the time they arrived, she had settled into the car and was lying down.  Everything had changed.  She was relaxed, jumped out of the car, followed them on the leash and walked straight into the vet clinic.  Everything had changed for Cashew.  She was no longer a street dog; she now had people that cared about her who would make sure she was ok.  Cashew is about 6 months old and weighs 9 kilos.  She appears to be a shepherd mix of some sort and will likely be a medium sized adult dog.  This friendly pup loves to chew on bones, thinks balls are great and hasn’t met a rope toy she doesn’t like.  She is fine on a leash, but still needs more training.  Cashew is very sweet and wants to make friends with everyone….once she gets done playing shy.  This pup is looking for a forever family that will provide a nurturing home where she can grow into a great dog.

Cassie’s mom had been to Mexico many times and they love it. To adopt a Mexpup was the right thing for this family to do. They picked Cassie because of her sweet smiling face, one look and they were in love. Then they read her story and just had to give her the life that she deserved. Cassie’s family says that their most favorite thing about Cassie, no matter how long they are gone for or what kind of mood they are in she is always happy to see them, with that beautiful smile on her face. Cassie has two fur siblings, Tipsy and Boo, cats that her family adopted in Sept of 2012. They are not yet the best of friends, Tipsy is curious, her and Cassie have been noise to noise many times. Boo however really wants no part yet but they are hopeful that one day they will be friends. Cassie has learnt how to play fetch by herself, by throwing her toy and then runs to go get it. She loves to walk between her parents legs, and she sometimes sounds like Chewbacca when she "talks" to us. Awe Chewy. The family does lots of walks and hikes together, and they are very much looking forward to taking her on her first canoe, boat, and camping trips this summer. But first they are heading to Ucluelet and Tofino and they can't wait to see her playing on Long Beach. Cassie’s future is full of love and safety and Cassie will be giving back when she goes for her search and rescue training. Way to go Cassie. “She is such amazing girl, so smart, funny and loving we are so very fortunate to have her in our life.” And we at Mexpup are very fortunate to have adoptive parents like yourselves so that Cassie can have the life she deserves.

Nico: Adopted! December 22, 2012

Picture
A puppy had been running around. He seemed abandoned, was dirty and a little bit underweight.  Anna started to feed him and although he came for the food, it took a few days for him to build trust.  He always returned for a meal but left immediately afterwards.  He was very scared and shy. One day Anna was out walking and she heard a dog barking & crying followed by some kids screaming – it sounded wrong, so she followed the noise.  She discovered a group of kids had cornered this pup in the yard of an empty house and were throwing stones at him.  She started to scream at the kids and chase them away, but she couldn't catch the dog.  About 30 min later she arrived home to find Nico standing in front of her house.  This little guy knew she was on his side and that maybe he could be safe there.  It still took some coaxing, but eventually he was in her home and getting a much needed bath.  Nico is now about 8 months old and weighs about 8 kilos.  After some tough days on the street, he is doing quite well.  He is really playful, loves attention and also loves human contact.  Even in crowded situation he settles right in; he’s been on the bus and actually fell asleep in his foster mom’s arms.  This pup is really sweet and does great with other dogs, kids, most people (he is scared of some men), and he also has cats in his foster home.  Nico is a good listening and has already learned sit, down, come and NO….smarty pants.  Nico had a rough start, but things have turned around for him.  Now all we need is to find him a family that is ready to open their hearts to this wonderful guy.

Nico went from the streets of Mexico where children were throwing stones at him to a loving home in Victoria, BC. He is such a loved puppy by all, and while at his foster mum’s house in Victoria, he had many play dates with former Mexpups. This tradition will carry on for this playful pup with his new best friend Pita. Nico’s mom Tanya and dad, Jack just love this little guy sooo much that Nico is allowed to sleep with them and Nico gets so comfortable under the covers that he just pushes dad right out of the bed...ha. He goes from bed to bed snuggling under the covers with all his human people. Mom says Nico loves to chew on everything, but thankfully just the laces of their shoes. Nico has learnt to shake a paw, sit, and high 10! YAY Nico. Mom says Nico loves all toys, but just recently bought him a stuff less toy, the head was still stuffed so out comes the stuffing and up goes the rest as Nico throws it in the air and chases after it. What fun for a pup. Nico has fit right in to his new families routine that when mom makes tea he knows it’s time to head to school to pick up his human siblings. He’s waiting and ready to get in the car for his next big adventure. Are we there mom?? Huh? Huh? Are we there yet?? Is sure to be what Nico would say if he could speak. Nico’s next grand adventure is to Rathtrevor beach camping in Feb 2013. Have a blast Nico and we love you. We wish you a happy, healthy and loving life full of play, treats and snuggles. Happy pup, happy life.

Moune (formerly Crackers): Adopted! December 16, 2012

Picture
Mona heard a bit of a commotion out front and went to investigate. She found a young woman with 2 dogs on leashes looking under a car parked in front of the house. She said there was a puppy under there who was very scared. She was trying to coax the pup out, but her dogs were intimidating it. Mona said that she would try, so the woman continued with her walk. Mona made a plan, offered good food, and the puppy reluctantly came out. While her tail was wagging, her head was almost down to the ground, and she was clearly frightened. She had no collar and looked like she had an abrasion of some kind on her head. She and Brian already have their own 3 dogs plus 3 foster dogs, but what do kind, compassionate people do? They figure out a way to help. The pup was hiding on a very busy street with a taco restaurant, a meeting place for taxi drivers and other commercial workers. There was lots of crazy traffic…not a safe place for a small, scared dog. Once she had her, a collar was put around her neck and Crackers started to walk home with Mona. She followed pretty easily, but cowered whenever Mona tried to lean down to pet her. When she got home, she rang the bell and Brian came to the door. He looked at the pup, then looked at Mona and opened the door to another wayward soul. The next item was a vet check and Crackers did really well. She was generally healthy other than a few abrasions that she probably got from her tough life on the streets. Crackers is a small dog about 1 1/2 to 2 years of age and weighs about 6 kg. She is now settled into her foster home and getting healthy. She gets along with other dogs and even seems fine with the cats. She is a sweet girl and loves to hang out with people, but also does fine when on her own.

Pauline's neighbour Anne (who adopted Flip - formerly Chino) had been mentioning for the past couple of months that she would like to get a canine companion for Flip.  Pauline remembered how totally in love Anne was with Amigo (another Mexpup) and when she met Crackers she reminded her of Amigo.  A call was made the following morning to Anne, but she was on her way to the airport and couldn't come over to meet Crackers.  Well, three weeks down the road Anne couldn't get her off her mind and Crackers was still in foster care in Nanaimo.  Pauline accompanied Anne over to meet her and it was done!  Her name Moune is a french term of endearment roughly translated from french to spanish would be "muneca" (cutie or doll).  She loves her Mexpup brother and gets along well with her two feline fur siblings.  She has a lovely house and huge yard in which she can romp and play with Flip.

Chitza (formerly Cookie): Adopted! December 16, 2012

Picture
You’re driving in a car and you see a grey ball of fur running like crazy, dodging cars and panicking.  It seems certain that the dog is lost, doesn’t have street sense and could be hit by a car at any moment.  What do you do?  Well, if you’re Angeles, you pull over, devise a plan and catch the terrified pup.  Angeles is awesome!  Once she got Cookie in her car, off to the vets they went.  This 10 month old pup was really dirty and covered in fleas and ticks, but thankfully she was at a decent weight.  She got shaved down and then was given a much needed bath……oh that must have felt good!  Angeles took her home and then set about finding her family.  After sometime it became apparent that there was no family looking, so Angeles continued to care for her and tried to figure out what to do next.  A Guardian Angel was traveling and there was space for Cookie, so she became a MexPup.  This sweet girl is about 1 year old, weighs about 5 kilos and is an adorable fluff ball.  We think she is a poodle and maltese mix, but what we know is that she is 100% Mexican street rescue.  She is a happy girl that does great with people, with other dogs and she really wants to be friends with cats (so far she hasn’t had any luck).

Like many of us, Brenda and John decided they wanted a dog. They also happened to be very well connected to a Mexpup volunteer, who was telling them about her recent plans to travel to Puerto Vallarta to of course, rescue dogs. Brenda and John decided to look at the Mexpup website, and, with one glance, they fell in love with Chitza (formerly Cookie). Chitza is a very special name that has Mayan history etched in every letter. They originally came up with the name Chitza from a movie. The woman's role in the movie was to sell chocolates, (which chocolate happens to be an original Mexican spice). So, in short, Chitza has kept true to her roots. Chitza has fallen right into Brenda's and John's routine seamlessly. She gets to go for 2 walks a day, and has a wonderful fur sibling named Baxter an 8 year old Spaniel. The two of them loved each other immediately, and Brenda says they play, play, PLAY all the time, and are absolutely in love. Brenda says that she feels blessed and so lucky to have Chitza, and we're so happy they have found each other.

Koda (formerly Toby): Adopted! December 8, 2012

Picture
Toby was abandoned at the acopio, a high kill shelter in Puerto Vallarta.  Abandoned…can you imagine having a home, a family and then nothing?  No love, no care, no cuddling, no people to call your own, no bed…just a cement pad in a cell where you spend your days.  Thankfully, Toby was noticed.  He was saved by the SPCA and taken to the sanctuary.  He got the care that he needed and a safe place to recover.  Now he just needs to find a home.  Toby is about 3 years old and weighs almost 6 kilos.  He is an awesome little guy who loves his stuffed toy.  This wonderful pup is grateful for all the help he has received so far and now he is ready for a forever home.  Please share his story so we can make that happen.

Brooklyn Started her search for a new pup to join her family. As luck would have it, a Neighbour had recently adopted a Mexpup (Pepita) and since Brooklyn and her mom were looking for a dog, they  decided to check out the Mexpup website. They found a picture of Koda and  immediately fell in love. Koda is living the life! His family says he’s a very sweet, affectionate, energetic, and very well trained boy. They say he fits like a glove and  is perfectly content in doing whatever else the family is doing. His prize winning-treat-begging-trick consists of standing on his back legs, and then doing a 360 degree twist in the air, and landing again on his hind legs. He’s living his new life, and hasn’t looked back since.

Pella (formerly Canica): Adopted! December 8, 2012

Picture
Karla noticed a young puppy wandering on and around a very busy highway just up the road from her business.  She was very afraid that the puppy would be hit by a vehicle and be injured or worse.  Karla investigated and found that the puppy was living with some neighbors, so she went to the home to find out more.  Apparently the puppy, named Canica, was purchased by a family to keep their child company while the child was being looked after by the grandparents.  The parents then decided they no longer needed nor wanted the pup, so left it with the grandparents who didn't really want her either.  The grandparents decided they would do one of two things, either find someone to take the puppy or give the dog to a friend who is a breeder.  Although Canica is a mixed-breed, her mother is apparently a Belgium Shepard and Canica herself is a very beautiful girl.  Karla could only imagine what Canica's future would be like if she was given to a puppy farm.  She couldn't keep Canica herself and so she devised a plan that included getting her healthy, vaccinated, spayed and fostered.  Since going into foster care, Canica has been thriving.  She is currently about 8 months old and is a small/medium dog with a slim/light frame.  We don’t know how much more she will grow, but we don’t expect her to be a large dog (maybe a tall, but maybe not).  She is very affectionate, energetic and loves attention, but will relax and just enjoy company after she displays sheer joy when someone arrives.  Canica loves to go for walks, is learning to heel and sit on command - a very smart, trainable pup.  She appears to get along well with other dogs and cats (a neighborhood cat often visits her).  She does appear to have some emotional scars and will cower if spoken to firmly or loudly, but these will heal quickly in the right environment.  Karla has often rescued animals in Boca.  We are thankful for all the work that she does with AyudaMutt and are happy that MexPup is able to help find Canica her forever home.  Please share her story so that a wonderful family can be found for this loveable pup.

A note from Pella's family
"In December, 2012 we got the best early Christmas present! I had been looking for a dog to join our family for well over a year. We were leaning toward a senior or special needs dog but one look at Pella nuzzling the black and white cat in a dirt courtyard in Mexico and I fell in love. As it turns out, the “cat nuzzling” picture was simply a
publicity stunt/photo op. Pella
mercilessly pursues our cats – great sport!  Of course we don’t know exactly when she was born but we are considering Feb 14, 2013 as her first birthday. Even though not yet a year, she is a very smart and well behaved pup. She sits when told, comes when she’s called (unless she’s pursuing her cats, Molly and Leo), politely waits for me to give her permission to eat her meals, gets along with all of the large and small dogs in her daycare (Club Dog) and Pella and our grandchildren are inseparable!! She appears to have a strong Whippet bloodline with  probably some Doberman and has inherited her loving personality from both breeds – she’s an uncontrollable cuddle bug! She has one very quirky trait that is not usually found in puppies – she HATES to get up in the morning. Every morning is a test of wills - we actually have to drag her out of bed to go outside! She stretches out in her bed, anchors her long legs into the corners and hunkers down! My latest tactic is to turn on the light right above her bed – she simply groans, rolls over onto her back, covers her eyes with her paws and goes back to sleep –  picture included as proof!! Very strange for a little girl who is so busy during the day!!
Thank you, thank you to all you wonderful Mexpup folks. Without your caring,
dedication and selfless volunteering we would not have found each other!

 Love to you All,
Pella and her Parents!

Lily (formerly Blacky): Adopted! December 8, 2012

Picture
Claudia was driving home from work one evening and saw a small black dog trying to cross the highway.  Fearful that she would be hit, she pulled over to make sure the pup was ok and hopefully, send her on her way home.  Once she got close to Blacky, she could tell she didn’t have a home (or at least hadn’t had one for a long time).  Her coat was very long and completely matted.  She stunk of poop and pee, and was quite desperately in need of help.  The pup was very uncertain, but eventually let Claudia hold her and that was that.  Claudia did what compassionate people do; she put her in the car and continued the drive home trying to figure out a plan for Blacky.  The next day brought a trip to the vets, where she was evaluated, bathed and shaved down.  This little 1-2 year old had many lacerations as well as an injured back leg.  The vet began the necessary treatments, and she was started along her road to recovery.  The first big change for this gentle pup was being loved & valued.  She no longer has to fend for herself on the streets, and we hope that soon she will have a new forever home.  This sweet girl weighs about 6.5 kilos and has had at least 1 or 2 litters of puppies (there will be no more).  Blacky has a wonderful, calm personality.  She is the quintessential lap dog hardly moving once she is snuggled into her person.  She is still a bit timid, but continues to gain confidence in her foster home and she will make a great, sweet dog for some wonderful family.

Lily, formerly Blacky, was on the typical journey to find her new home. She made the long journey from hot, hot Mexico, and arrived with her new coat in Chilly BC. Lily was still looking for her new home when she went into Foster with Teri, but them something amazing happened, and things just fell into place. Without even realizing it, when Lily walked off that Ferry, and was picked up by Teri- she was already home! Lily now enjoys a wonderful life on Vancouver Island. She's still adapting to the new climate, but with a new zest for life and a second chance, she's living life to the max. Thank you Teri for opening your heart and your home, and making a difference to the homeless dog population.

Nina: Adopted! December 6, 2012

Picture
Martha has often rescued dogs.  It is not unusual to go to her salon and see her latest rescue "in residence" as her own 2 dogs at home are not that welcoming to new roommates.  One day on her way home from work, Martha came across a young poodle who appeared to be in bad shape.  This poodle cross was black with dirt, covered in pink paint, and full of bruises and abrasions.  On further investigation, Martha discovered that neighborhood children had been stoning this puppy and were responsible for the paint covering her head.  She couldn't bear it and decided she had to do something.  She brought Nina into a friend's veterinary clinic near her shop.  Dr. Julian Gomez from Hospital Veterinario Del Sol was astonished at the condition of this dog.  They were unable to clean the "black" covering her coat so ordered in a special shampoo from Guadalajara to try to get it off.  He also treated her for her many injuries on her chest and front paws from the stoning she had endured.  Between Martha and Dr. Julian, they cared for Nina.  She would spend her days in the salon and her nights boarding at the vet clinic.  All his services including the boarding were "gratis" for his friend Martha.  With this love and care, Nina morphed into a beautiful girl.  She is approximately 7 months old and will be a medium sized dog.  She is either a purebred or poodle cross.  Her coat is now white with glistening silver highlights.  The next step in her journey was to find her a forever home.  As luck would have it, one of Martha's clients is involved with MexPup and upon meeting the pup and hearing her story Nina became a MexPup.  Martha and Dr. Julian keep Nina until a foster home could be found. Wonderful Leza and Gil, who adopted another MexPup Lucy in July 2011, answered the call for help.  It was a happy day when we got to watch the foster family leaving Martha's salon with Nina, crate, blanket, supplies, two smiling kids and mom and dad squeezed into the family car!  She has settled into foster care and is having a great time.  She loves playing with her fur fostering sibling Lucy and is having a great time being part of a family. Nina now has a secure future and will "sparkle" in the right home.  Is it yours?

Nina was adopted by a wonderful family in Victoria. She has a fur sibling named Billy (a Maltese Cross) who she loves to wrestle with! Nina is a loving dog who loves to spend time with other dogs and people, but she's still getting used to being on a leash. She loves going for walks, and above all, she loves to run! Nina gets to go to a dog park daily, where she gets to run, play, and stretch out those long poodle legs! Nina's family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who helped Nina on her way, and helped her find her home. Their family wouldn't be complete without her.

Zoe (formerly Thelma) & Finnegan (formerly Luis): Adopted! December 4, 2012

Picture
These two sweethearts rescued each other, were then rescued together and are now looking for a forever home together!   It was round 11PM, Humberto and his family were walking by the water canal beside the Libramiento, which on this night was dry (if they had not been rescued, I am sure they would both be dead by now after the recent huge storms we've had).  There were some bushes growing in the canal and Humberto's son, Diego age 4, saw Thelma come out of the bushes.  He is also an animal lover and got all excited and worried about her and wanted his dad to go down and get the pup out of the canal.  Humberto jumped down into the canal and Thelma ran back into the bushes.  Then from above, Kevin age 7 yrs. said "There is a kitty, watch out the dog might bite him."  Humberto couldn't see the kitty from below.  Humberto waited and stayed back a little.  Thelma came back out of the bushes with the kitty, Luis.  They started playing and rolling around.  Humberto said it was like they were saying, "we are together, we belong together" and that's when Humberto decided to save them both, despite the fact that he already has a big dog and 3 kitties at home and not much money.

Zoe and Finnegan have a special bond. When new mom saw them on the Mexpup website she just knew she had to have these two and together. Mom says she absolutely loves the relationship with each other, it is so interesting to watch. Words from mom “ They really are bonded and we love just watching them play and be together. They also both have very strong personalities which is a funny combination. However, they both only like cuddling with each other and not as much with us!” The quirkiest thing that Zoe does is when one of the family members goes out Zoe always gathers that person's things (shoes or clothes) and brings them upstairs beside the bed before she goes to sleep. Can we saw awwww
Finnegan loves bubble baths and putting his feet and tail into the bubbles and just sitting there. He also loves jumping up into the dryer if the door is open and sleeping in there.
Zoe is a "regular" at the dog park by UVic and she gets to go almost every day so she can run around and play with other dogs off leash. She also go on walks and hikes and she is a fantastic and well-behaved dog off leash.  Finnegan has found a fondness for bubbles...CATNIP bubbles... and his parents blow him cat nip bubbles and he goes bonkers for them. Zoey loves chasing around a peacock feather so much so that he climbs the clothes in the closet to get to the feather.
They behave very much like siblings. They bug each other and fight (playfully) but at the end of the day they always love each other and their bond is very evident. Finnegan is very protective of Zoe and sleeps on top of Zoe’s kennel when she sleeps in there and if Zoe goes out for a walk, Finnegan howls at the door until she comes back. We are so thankful that these two characters have found an awesome home with an awesome family! Thank you for loving them. Happy pup and kitty, Happy life.

Scotch: Adopted! December 2, 2012

Picture
Vero, one of our vets, was on her way to work when she heard an accident and then realized a dog had been hit by a car. The dog had an open fracture and the person told her that he would get the animal to the owners right away so the pup could get the care he needed. By chance Vero saw the person again one week later and asked how the pup was doing. She was advised that the owners hadn't taken him to a vet and weren't planning to do so. They simply put a bandage on the leg. They said that they were already considering giving him away and they would definitely do so now. I’m not sure how you leave your pup with a bone coming out of the skin and not get him care. There is no explanation for that…..really. With an exposed bone, there is a great threat of infection, so Vero asked him to bring the pup to clinic immediately. Upon arrival, they knew he was in trouble. Although bandaged, the wound had become infected and they needed to act fast to give this pup a chance. Because of the infection there was no chance to save the leg, so it had to be amputated. The surgery and follow up care were successful and the infection was controlled before it spread and did more damage. Scotch is now in a foster home doing great. This pup is about 2 years old and weighs about 6 kilos. He has adapted to his new challenge and hasn't missed a beat. He enjoys going for walks and especially loves to run & play at the park with his foster fur sibling Mugsy. Scotch is thriving in his loving foster home and will soon be ready for a family to call his own. Please help us to find him a wonderful home.

As Luck may have it, Matt and his girlfriend are friends with previous Mexpup adopters who referred them to the Mexpup website. Contemplating getting a dog, they found Scotch and knew that he was the one. Scotch moved in, and that was that. Matt says that its been the most entertaining weeks of his life. His favourite thing about Scotch is how happy he is to see Matt- even if they've only been apart for 10 minutes! Matt says that Scotch probably doesn't even know he's missing a leg, and he's a very spry and energetic dog. Scotch goes to work with Matt every day- and they spend lots of time together. Scotch is an affectionate pup who loves cuddling, and loves to learn. He's improved on his English vocabulary drastically, and for a pup that wasn't trained when he first got here, Matt says that he's doing extraordinary.

Pancho (formerly Spike): Adopted! December 2, 2012

Sometimes things just don’t seem fair.  A sweet street dog is about to have a litter of puppies and she picks a “safe” place to have them.  She creates a space where she can care for them and hopefully won’t be bothered by others.  When the puppies are big enough that they can venture out on their own, a tragic error is discovered.  Their safe place is next to a road and the puppies have no idea of the danger.  Sadly, a few puppies were hit which alerted a resident to the situation.  Tuck stepped in to save the mom and the remaining puppies.  Both the mom and one littermate found great homes and now it is time to help the other two puppies find their chance at a wonderful future.  Spike is about 6+ months old.  He is an active, playful, robust puppy that is very curious, but also a bit cautious.  This pup is about 10 kilos and will likely be a solid medium sized dog as an adult.  He is a confident guy that will “announce” visitors, but as soon as he recognizes them runs up with a tail wag to say hello and get a scratch while always being hopeful for some playtime.  Getting into a foster home as a puppy was wonderful for him as he has already learned that human are good, toys are for playing and people’s shoes are not for burying or chewing.  Many other puppy lessons are still in progress and he is proving to be a great student.  Spike is a very trainable guy with a wonderful personality.  We know that he will make a fantastic addition to someone’s family and we can’t wait for him to find them.

Pancho had a scary and sad start to life. Losing litter mates is never an easy thing for a pup. But what Pancho got the day he was rescued was a new life of love and forever safety. Pancho will never know what it’s like to be hit by a car or suffer from injuries. He’s got his new dad Andrew and his two fur siblings to romp around with. He fits right in with his new pack; a yellow lab and another Mexican rescue street deer. With 5 acres to roam he never tires and when his dad comes home he is a classic puppy full of love and his whole body wags, not just his tail. This snuggly, loving boy just adores his dad and just loves to love him. Pancho has such a great personality that is noticed by all who meet this gentle, playful puppy. At 9 months old now this pup loves to camp in Port Renfrew and dad says he might teach him to surf...in the summer...Andrew says he has found a gem in this boy, and Andrew, we are glad you love him as we do. Happy life, love, romps and play for you Pancho.

It is the rainy season in Vallarta, so the animals that live on the streets face extra challenges; staying dry and finding food when everything is being washed away.  Tracy & Patty were having lunch on the beach and awesome shrimp (in Spanish Cameron) tacos were the meal of choice.  They saw a thin male dog heading down the beach but he was on the move and soon out of sight.  By the time lunch was finished, it had started raining (a nice hard PV summer rain).  As they left the restaurant and headed back to the car, guess who was lying on the path to the car?  Yep, the male dog.  He was huddled against the wall trying to stay out of the pouring rain.  It appeared as if he was "waiting" for them.  He was a very friendly guy with some bad sores around one eye and his muzzle.  He was also very thin and had lots of ticks all over his body.  There wasn't a plan, but they knew he needed help and so they got a leash, walked him to the car, loaded him up and they were off to the vet.  Now they had to decide what to name him.   Hmmm....well they had great tacos for lunch but Taco didn't suit him.  How about "Cam" short for Cameron?  They asked "Cam" what he thought and he agreed.  He was absolutely exhausted but still managed a couple of tail wags.  He trusted them enough to lie down and rest in the car, not easy for a street dog.  This sweet boy is doing great in foster care.  He is about 1 years old and is an easy going guy.  He is gaining weight (he’s about 18 kilos) and enjoying life.  He does great with dogs, cats, people, kids, adults…..well, we actually haven’t met anyone Cam doesn't like.  He is looking for a new home.  Cameron doesn't need much more than love and a family that values him.  Could it be you?

Lewie has a similar story to Bode who is a former Mexpup, in that they both rescued themselves.  Lewie was hiding under a small alcove beside the car waiting for his rescuers, and thank god they acted and saved this little fella or he may never have felt the love of his new mom Debbie. These two are a definite pair made for each other. Debbie has so much love to give and Lewie is just her boy. You can tell from Debbie’s voice how much she truly loves and cherishes Lewie, and she looks forward to seeing all the new personality traits of Lewie coming out in the next few months. Lewie is a mellow guy and definitely knows what he likes and doesn’t like, and mornings are one thing is not fond of. Debbie has to literally drag him outside! Lewie LOVES the snow! He rolls in it, digs in it, and attacks it like it’s going out of style! Lewie loves the local dog park and is such a stubborn boy when mom wants to leave that he parks his butt and I can hear him say “no mom, I’m not done playing, PLEASE can we stay just a little bit longer.....?” Well Lewie, I’m glad you love your mom and we are so happy you have a happy ending to your sad beginning. Have a wonderful life little guy. Thank you to everyone who has helped with his love story.

Phoebe (formerly Valeria): Adopted! November 30, 2012

Picture
A little pup had a family, but the family didn’t think much about the puppy.  They let her roam free even though they lived in a very busy part of town.  They didn’t make sure she had good food & plenty of water, so she had to scavenge for both.  They didn’t take her to the vets even when she started losing her hair.  A neighbor saw this little one and started to offer assistance with the hope that her life would improve.  A few days later, the neighbor realized things had taken a turn for the worse.  Not only had she lost a lot more hair, but the pup was only using three legs and seemed to be in great pain.  When she contacted the family, they indicated there had been an accident and they no longer wanted the pup.  At about 6 months old, this 2.5 kilo pup was discarded with a dislocated hip and mange.  She was quickly taken to the vets so that the damage could be assessed and a plan made.  She was in bad shape, but it could have been much worse.  Thankfully, Karen and her son Max were more than willing to help and so once she was stable, Valeria was taken to her foster home.  She was shy upon arrival but Lucy and Josie (MexPup formerly named Jolie) welcomed her into the pack and let her know everything was going to be ok.  Val has been receiving great care and lots of love which has helped in her transformation from sick pup to happy, healthy play machine.  She still needs surgery on his dislocated hip, but she is well on her way to recovery.  This sweet girl loves people, dogs, kids, music and life.  She loves to cuddle and to get belly rubs.  Valeria won’t grow much, so she is looking for a family that wants a tiny pup.  If you’re looking for a small dog that will travel with ease and will bring joy to your family, she may be the perfect match for you.

Phoebe went from discarded pup to a loved pup when her new mom and dad, Tanya and Terry read her story. Tanya knew she needed to act fast to have Phoebe join their family. Phoebe started out her life in a manner we hear all too much. Phoebe is a special pup, and has sustained many injuries but she is fighting and pushing through as she has her own family to love now.  As I was speaking to her mom, she told me that at the moment, Phoebe was in surgery having her baby teeth pulled. This poor baby girl has endured so much pain in her short life. Soon Phoebe will be running around her house again, terrorizing her two new fur siblings who just happen to be greyhounds! Phoebe’s parent’s favorite thing about her, is her snoring. They can’t believe such a small thing can snore that loud. Phoebes first Christmas in Canada was amazing. She is loved by all and loves visiting people. Phoebe gets lots of exercise. Aside from her fur siblings, she gets to go to the beach with her daddy and play in the sand and water. What a special treat for a special pup. Thank you Tanya and Terry for loving Phoebe.

Peanut (formerly Petite): Adopted! November 30, 2012

Picture
Andy was in town for a short visit when he found 3 dogs in need of help.  They were found huddling together under a car down by Playa los Muertos in a heavy rain storm.  An unlikely pack, but they had each other.  Andy chose to make a difference in their lives.  He took them into his home and started to work on a plan for Blanco, Petite and Yoda.  He got them to the vets and enlisted the help of friends so they could be fostered while getting healthy.  Rescuers are a wonderful, resourceful group and this rescue is the perfect example of that.  Petite was the little girl of the group.  She had a few medical issues that were being treated but she was gaining weight and doing great.  As all was well, they didn’t take her back to vets for a number of weeks and when they did they were in for a surprise.  Petite was pregnant and was close to her due date.  On Sept 21st, 2012 she delivered 8 puppies but only 7 survived.  She has been a wonderful mother to her pups, but they are now weaned and it is time for Petite to get her chance at a new life.  At approximately 1 and a half years old, this very sweet and friendly pup weighs almost 6 kilos.  It appears that she had a tough life on the streets as she has a burn mark on her back which was likely caused by someone throwing hot oil on her, but she hasn’t let that get her down.  She still thinks humans are great and likes other dogs as well.  She is very playful and enjoys a good belly rub.  We think she would make a great addition to just about any family, as she is more than a survivor, she is a thriver.

Petite went from living on the streets with her new pups to a wonderful family home with so much love. Petite is loved very much by all in her family, and quite a family it is. Two new human siblings to play, snuggle and to steal socks and shoes  from. This would not have been a success story without all the wonderful volunteers in PV and in Canada/USA. Thank you to all who made this possible. Petite we wish you a very happy and long life with your forever family. You are a special gal and have no worries for your pups, they are all safe and happy and loved. Happy pup, happy life.

Chino: Adopted! November 25, 2012

Picture
What would you do if a dog showed up on your doorstep, looking lost, dirty and scared?  Well that is exactly what happened to Luz Hernandez.  What did she do?  She opened her arms, her heart and her home to this little dog – way to go Luz!  We aren't exactly sure where Chino (Spanish for "curly") was before he arrived at her house.   Luz lives near a busy highway so we think he got scared by the traffic and found his way to a quieter street.  Then he decided that her house was the one that would save him.  What a smart boy!  Chino is a small dog, only 5.5kg and is about one year old.  Luckily when taken to the vet, it was discovered that he is basically healthy!  He will soon be vaccinated, neutered and then be ready for his forever family.  He is active and loves to play and does great with other dogs.

Chino was a street dog before Rae and her family took him in. Since then, his life has been Cushy!  He spends his saying lying on a big pillow which is 3 times as big as he is. The  search for Chino began a little while ago, when Rae was looking for a dog that was small and non shedding. When she came across Chino’s picture, she couldn’t resist his adorable face.  It didn’t take long for Chino to settle in with the family, and he’s already got a lot of confidence. He’s a very independent pup, but loves his family very much. He enjoys going out for walks, and playing with other dogs.  He’s become friends, and is going to be spending a lot of time with a standard poodle named Teddy. Chino is good around other, larger dogs despite his small stature (in fact- we don’t know if he knows he’s a small dog, so let’s not burst his bubble!). Chino does need a strong leader, and he’s found this in Rae. Chino still has some issues that Rae and her family are working through, but thankfully for Chino, his new family is very patient and loves him dearly. Thank you to Rae and her family who were willing to give a little homeless dog from Mexico a second chance at life.

Kady (formerly Tami): Adopted! November 25, 2012

Picture
When you see a dog almost every day eating from the same trash pile, it is sad.  You might even consider stopping, but when you are greeted with a growl and bared teeth, you might not return.  Thankfully, when this happened to Tere, she realized the dog was simply scared.  Her tail was always tucked between her legs and she was just trying to survive.  Tere decided she needed a better plan.  She started to drive by leaving food whenever she could.  It took time and patience, but finally the pup decided to trust Tere and she was able to touch her.  It was a huge moment and from that point forward the pup put her complete trust in Tere and followed her everywhere.  Into the car she went and it was off to the vets for a check-up and the start of a new life.  Tami is just under a year old and weighs about 6 kilos.  This sweet girl has lots of energy now that she is healthy and always wants to play.  She does great with kids, other dogs and cats….although the cats haven't really wanted much to do with her.  Tami isn't convinced that a leash is a good thing, but we are working on that.  She loves to cuddle, get scratches & be hugged, but she isn't a full time lap dog, as there is just too much for her to see and do.

Kluane was looking for a dog since spring of 2012. She was waiting for the "right one" to come her way, and she knew what she was looking for in her 4 legged companion. She was very dilligent and cheked the websites every day. She eventually came acorss Kady's photo, and visited the Mexpup Facebook. Once she had gone through Kady's album, she put in an application for her, and within 3 days of Kady's arrival, Kluane called Mexpup to tell them that Kady was home. Kady is a wonderful girl, and has blended in with Kluanes family very well. Kady is still full of surprises, with short bursts of energetic mania- every night before bed, she calmly follows Kluane up the stairs for bed time, and once that door open she sprints into the bedroom, jumps on the bed, spins on the bed, jumps off, and runs down the hall way, and then runs back to the bedroom... Shs repeats the circuit about 3 times before curling up and going to bed, but its part of who Kady is is why Kluane loves her to bits. We're so happy and thankful for Kluane for opening her heart, and her home to Kady.

Milo (Formally Homero): Adopted! November 25, 2012

Picture
Enrique was on his way to work when he saw a little pup digging in the trash.  He thought that the pup needed help, so stopped the car and tried to catch him but the little guy ran away.  Later that evening after work, Enrique went back to see if he was still there.  Homer was much smarter this time and realized that this guy was there to help him.  He got in the car and thanks to Enrique, was on his way to a new life.  This approximately 4 month old pup weighed 2.5 kilos at his first vet check.  He is full of life and loves to play.  Homer is cute….really, really cute, and is a funny little guy providing constant entertainment to his foster family.  He appears to be a mostly schnauzer mix and is a vocal guy.  If you are ready for an outgoing bundle of joy to enter your life, Homer might be just the right pup for you.  We know a great family is out there and they won’t be disappointed with this character!

Kristin and Joe saw Milo on our website and fell in love with this sweet pup. From his days on the street to his forever home was quite a road for this little fella. Kristin says that the first three days Milo was home he was a quiet pup, and she questioned whether he was a pup, until that 4th day when his wheels got turned on and he hasn't quit since. The puppy came alive and Milo is a full terror puppy that is absolutely loved by all and he sure loves everybody too. Milo's house training is well under way, and now knows that the door is where he needs to go. He loves his walks and loves his raccoon stuffy. His favorite thing to chew on is of course his mommy and daddy's slippers. What pup can resist those soft fluffy things? Milo loves his pigs ears and I'm sure he will get lots of treats in his puppy classes coming up in January. Good luck Milo, we know you are a treasured and loved pup now. Have a wonderful life. Thank you Kristin and Joe for adding him to your family.

Layla (formerly Lala) Adopted Nov 25, 2012

Picture
She was wandering around Francisco Medina Ave, a very busy street in PV.  She was very frightened and under constant risk of being hit by a car.  Thankfully, Priscila saw her and decided to make a difference.  She started to talk to the pup with the hope she could calm her down and prevent her from darting into traffic.  She was able to get a bit closer and then Lala started to sniff her…..it worked, she had her and they were safe.  Off they went to Priscila’s home where she got a bath, had lots of ticks & fleas removed, and was provided food & water.  That was how Priscila changed Lala’s life.  They next day included a trip to the vets and the start of the search for her family.  No one was looking for her and no one recognized her, so it seemed she was simply on her own.  Lala has been living in her foster home for a few months now.  She has a fur foster sibling Canelo that she loves very much although she wasn’t sure what to make of him at first.  Canelo wanted to play and Lala wasn’t comfortable with that.  We are guessing that her time on the streets was very difficult so she was just nervous and still in survival mode.  It just took her a bit of time to realize that play was a part of her new life and she could relax.  Lala is about 1 year old and now weighs 17.5 kilos.  She is a very affectionate and obedient pup.  She is friendly with other dogs and does well with cats and kids.  She is house broken and is learning to walk on a leash.  This shy & sullen girl is still afraid of some things.  If you throw a stick, she crouches rather than chase after it.  She does the same if you grab a broom or a mop.  She loves belly rubs and is slowly gaining confidence.  Lala has made wonderful progress in her foster home and we are hopeful that a forever home will help her even more in this process.

Katelyn was looking for an even tempered, medium brown dog, and came across Mexpups website. After a short view of the website, she discovered a medium brown dog with GIANT ears named Layla- and the rest is history! 3 weeks later, Layla has settled into her new digs without a hitch. Her favorite toy is a plastic container of coconut oil, and not only is it fun, its nutritious! Layla is the perfect dog for Katelyn and her family.  She sleeps all night, and she’s smart as a whip! She can ready fetch and returns the ball at Katelyn’s feet for another round. Layla enjoys 2 daily trips to the park and one long walk a day. She’s already made a few friends, including another Mexpup!  Layla’s a little picky about her food, but not her name! She’s already adopted several nick names, such as Dingo dog and Cinnamon Bun. She loves the Dog Park, and tug of war and other dogs. She loves running around her fenced back yard with her moms dogs, and has company 24/7! In the summer, she’s exciting about heading up to her cabin in Lake Cowichan, in which she will enjoy hours of swimming and summer recreation! She’s become a constant companion for Katelyn, and the two of them are definitely two peas in a pod!

Blanquita aka Quita: Adopted! November 25, 2012

Picture
Claudia had just rescued Blacky off the side of the highway the night before.  She & Chuck had decided they would foster this pup so their plate was full, but when she saw another dog laying in the median of the highway with a rope around its neck, she simply had to stop.  Many people had driven by, but we are so very grateful that Claudia decided that she would again be the one to make a difference.  There was no plan, and she knew this girl needed to see a vet immediately so with no idea what would come tomorrow, she picked her up and off they went.  Blanquita was evaluated and treated for many lacerations.  She was very lucky to not have suffered more severe physical damage, but she clearly had been traumatized by her experience.  The first few days were tough, but soon this little girl started to feel better and realized she was truly safe.  Her cute little personality started to shine through, and now she bounds around her foster home with great energy and happiness.  This approximately 1 year old pup weighs about 5.5 kilos and loves to play.  Blanquita is especially fond of other dogs.  She is also quite the lover, constantly showering affection on the people in her life.  Her body continues to heal and her spirit has made a great comeback.  We are certain that she will make a wonderful addition to her forever family.  Blanquita didn’t have the best start in life, but we are committed to making sure that from this point on she gets the care & love she deserves!

Diana and Jim were going to Puerto Vallarta for their youngest son's wedding at the end of November and their daughter found out about Mexpup.....on craigslist. Their Daughter emailed mom the link that she had found and suggested that Jim and Diana be Guardian Angels for Mexpup on their return trip to Comox.
Then Diana started looking at the website and saw Blanquita, and fell in love. Diana commenced her campaign (with her husband) to adopt her for their own! They also agreed to bring another pup home with them in-cabin and convinced another young couple (Brody and Lindsay) to bring a couple of pups home with them a week after Jim and Diana came back...quite a lot of arrangements to make in the short time before they left on their  trip.
A few days after Jim and Diana got to PV, they were lucky enough to meet Chuck and Claudia and Blanquita!!! What an exciting day for all! The only problem was, after that, Diana couldn't wait to get home with little Quita.
Quita has a new brother Benny. He is ten and a half and has been the only dog for the last four years. The transition was amazing and Diana and Jim didn't have to worry about a thing in that department as the two of them play and play...at least three times a day.  There are dog toys all over the house and they especially like playing tug of war! Quita has fit into their lives very easily and everyone who meets her absolutely loves her.  The only family member who has a problem with Quita is thier ragdoll cat, George, and even she is coming around....Yes a female cat with a boy name. Happy life, happy pup. Thank you so much to Karen and Susan and Aimee and everyone involved in Mexpup and especially to Claudia and Chuck for rescuing our girl and taking such good care of her.

Ringo (formerly Lolo) Adopted Nov 24, 2012

Picture
Jenny was out with her pups for their morning walk when she saw Lolo.  He was following a guy and she thought he was the owner.  Since Lolo was very, very skinny she asked him "Hey, is that your dog?” (if you knew Jenny, you would know that she would have had a long and firm conversation about the condition of his dog and probably set up visits to check on his progress – she is amazing!).  When he replied “No, I don’t know whose dog it is, he just followed me but it’s not mine!”  Jenny asked him to wait a few minutes while she put her dogs inside, grabbed a leash, and came back out to get him.  While she was walking with Lolo towards her house she whispered, "Today was your last day in the streets, you will have a better life now and we will help you".  He was very obedient…..they KNOW when you are trying to help!  She got him in the car and took him immediately to Dr Peña where he spent about 2 weeks in recovery, surviving Parvo and that is not an easy feat!  He is now in a foster home and still in treatment for anaplasma and the millions of deadly parasites that were in his belly (there were so very many).  Lolo is about 6 months old and now weighs 10 kilos.  He will likely be on the small side of a medium dog when fully grown (maybe 15 kilos).  He is very friendly, happy, playful, and sweet.  He walks well on a leash and stays with his foster pack when off leash.  This pup is a bit loud; he wants to make sure everyone knows if someone is coming close.  He isn't aggressive in his actions or bark, he’s more like an alarm.  He is getting healthy, growing and gaining confidence.  We are confident that he will make a wonderful family member, so please keep your eye out for someone looking for great pup just like Lolo…..he can’t wait to be adopted!

Ringo is a special pup and we at Mexpup will miss him, but we are happy he has found his forever people.

Kika: Adopted! November 22, 2012

Picture
A litter of puppies were taken to the Acopio.  It is a high kill shelter that has few resources and lots of disease.  I am not sure there is a worse place in the world for a puppy to end up.  The mother wasn’t there and the puppies were at great risk.  Thankfully, Angelica (from Angelicat) saw them and decided to make a difference in these young lives.  Laura was the next savior in this chain as she agreed to foster little Kika.  When this little pup arrived, she was covered in fleas & ticks, was full of parasites, and was severely malnourished.  She was a scared little puppy that had not had the simple life that these little ones deserve.  Well, the good news is that her bad days were over and she just needed some time to realize that the change for the good was permanent.  As the days passed, she got healthier, happier and more confident.  Kika became just a puppy again, the best transformation of all.  This little 5-6 month old girl weighs about 22 pounds and will likely be a medium size dog when fully grown.  She is very playful and gets along well with other dogs, cats and kids.  Kika is in the fabulous, fun time of puppy life where excitement is constant, energy is high, and chewing on things is a sport (she is learning to focus that attention on her bone).  Now that she is healthy, she is learning to walk on a leash and house training has also become a focus.  We are so happy that she is doing well and is ready for a family of her own.  Please help us to share her story so that the perfect match can be found.

Courtney knew about Mexpup a long time ago. She adopted one of the first rescues Mexpup ever did- Dorothy.  Little over a year later, she decided she wanted to add another member to the pack, and checked out Mexpup again. It had grown substantially since the last time she visited, but it wasn’t hard for her to find the one she was  looking for- Kika. One look at Kika’s photo and she was smitten! Kika moved right in with her new family, and hasn’t looked back since! She’s doing really well, and loves her fur sibling from the moment they walked through the door and bumped noses. It was love at first bump! The two dogs play, and play, and play! Alissa (Courtney’s daughter) also plays a large role in the two pups lives, and gets in plenty of kisses and play time herself.  Thank you to Courtney and her family for giving yet another Mexican homeless pup a second chance at life.

Chico (formerly Chikuis): Adopted! November 18, 2012

Picture
Stephanie was on a research/rescue mission.  There were reports of a dog needing help, so off she went with Mckenna and Maggie to see what they could find.  As they went in search of a possible cruelty situation, they came upon a nice man who had a Chihuahua in the back of his store.  They were asking for information to track down the other animal and then started talking about the little pup that appeared injured – Chikuis was underweight and his leg had clearly been fractured.  The man explained the dogs plight - he pulled the pup from the Rio Cuale (main river that flows through town) where he was drowning.  He had a cast on his leg and could no longer stay afloat.  Once saved, the vendor took Chikuis to the vets and although his resources were limited, he was trying to help the pup.  Stephanie asked if he was for sale to which the vendor replied “I can’t sell something that I didn’t pay for.  If you want him, you can take him”.  They agreed to return once they had a foster home set up.  When Stephanie asked the girls what they thought of the man, they replied “we like him”.  They all knew that this wasn’t the mission at the start of the day, but realized it was why they were there.  Chikuis is between 1-2 years old.  He weighed 2.5 kilos when taken into care and will gain a small amount of weight as he gets healthy, but he will always be a small guy.  He has a genetic condition which requires surgery on both of his back legs – the first one will be done next week and the second once he has recovered from the first.  He is a sweet guy that gets along with other dogs and likes to play.  We think that his personality will come out more once he is in less discomfort.  He will always have a funny walk, but that will just add to his character.  We can’t wait for him to be healthy and to get a second chance at a great life.  [By the way, they did find the other guy with the other dogs – the original reason for the mission that day.  The good news is that things were ok – both dogs were healthy, had food, water, shelter, and were in good shape.  It might not have been a perfect environment, but it was better than ok.]

Chikuis's life changed the day he was rescued.  He was welcomed into a great foster home that nursed him through surgeries to fix both of his back legs.  Chikuis is small, but mighty, and has come through his surgeries beautifully.  He was just waiting for his forever family to find him.  Thankfully, Peter was looking!  Peter wanted to add another member to his pack, and knew that Chikuis would be a perfect match.  He is more than willing to do the physical therapy that Chikuis needs in order to gain muscle mass and flexibility in his legs.  Chikuis even has his own private pool to swim in.  Chikuis was welcomed with lots of love and wagging tails by his new family.  Both of his new fur siblings were very happy to meet him, and he knew right away that this was his forever home.  He is even allowed on the furniture already!  Chikuis has survived a lot in his life but that is all behind him now.  He will only know love, play, and a fabulous life from now on.

Tikka Marsala: Adopted! November 15, 2012

Picture
It was a regular Friday for Michelle, arriving to work early in the morning. She got out of the car at her school and that is when the morning became extraordinary. Waiting in front of the building was a beautiful brown dog who was friendly and approached her right away. It was then that Michelle could see the horrific state this dog was in. This sweet pup was absolutely covered in ticks, more than she had ever seen on a dog. She immediately went into action, asking one of her young students to help her find a leash. All he could find was the school's skipping rope, but that was good enough to start. Once the dog was secured, she phoned her husband Andres to come and get the dog. He did, and spent the next 6 hours bathing and de-ticking her. Once she was clean they headed off to the vet, and not surprisingly found out she has a tick born blood disease which a simple treatment of antibiotics will cure. After a bit of time in care, they realized that something still wasn't right with her health. Upon further testing, it was discovered that she is diabetic. The vets are hopeful that the issue can be managed with a homeopathic drop – so far they are working like a charm. Tikka Marsala is an energetic, goofy girl who is learning to play and enjoy regular dog behavior. She walks well on leash and gets along great with other dogs. She is obedient and learns quickly. Tikka will make a beautiful addition to a lucky family.

Tikka made a BIG impression on her rescuers and foster family Michelle and Andres. When it was time to post her story on MexPup and start looking for a family they sent a “STOP” email. They realized that this girl was a part of their family and putting her up for adoption felt wrong. They have fostered & loved many other dogs, but she just fit. Tikka is the perfect addition to their pack (they have 3 other dogs) and will now have a wonderful life. She will have shelter, food, care, love and will get to be a fur foster sibling to future MexPups (she is now officially playing this role for Negra). This is the story of a dog that knew her mom worked in a building. She found the building and thankfully her mom recognized her!

Pepita: Adopted! November 14, 2012

Picture
Pepita was hit by a car one late Saturday night in Vallarta.  Griffin came across the pup on the sidewalk, not moving.  She moved heaven and earth to get help for this little girl! Ana Lina Alarcon from Clinica Veterinaria Olas Atlas opened her clinic at 11:30 PM.  She put this sweet dog on an IV and gave her pain killers and anti-inflammatories.  This wonderful vet also spent the entire night in her clinic watching over and caring for Pepita with no thought or mention of cost.  Once stable, the pup was referred to Alejandro Castillo, one of the best veterinary orthopedic specialists in Vallarta who offered to help at a great discount.  Griffin put out a plea for donations to pay for the costs of Pepi’s care and received more than enough from people all over North America.  The vets were paid and the additional money was donated to help another puppy injured that same week from a fall off a roof (Nick – who is also doing great).  After the operation to wire her pelvic fractures was completed, we received the great news that her prognosis is good and that once recovered she should be as good as new with near perfect quality of life.  Pepita moved on to foster care at with Brian, Mona and their wonder pack where she is recovering beautifully.  She will soon have her wires removed and will continue the rehabilitation process.  Soon, she will be ready for adoption to a perfect forever home!!  Thanks to everyone who contributed to her care!

When Naomi took her son to soccer practice, she planned for them to come home with some mud and grass stains- but life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. To Naomi's surprise, a Mexpup volunteer with 3 pups was also at soccer practice- one of them was a little Chihuahua. Naomi's daughter was taken by this little dog, and insisted that they look at Mexpup website when they got home- and that's exactly what they did. They came across Pepita, and the rest was history. Pepita moved in and that was that. She fit in, and the family loved her from the get go. She's full of kisses, and very well trained. She sleeps through the whole night, and loves going out on walks. One thing that makes Naomi laugh is that Pepita has more coats than all the humans, so there is no question that this little one wont just be well loved, she's going to be toasty warm too!

Beany (formerly Pinto Bean): Adopted! November 5, 2012

Picture
Brian received a strange phone call at his home.  The voice was a woman's who only spoke Spanish.  She soon realized that Brian didn't understand, so she put a man on the phone who could speak English.  The man said to Brian "we found your dog" to which Brian responded "what dog, we don't have a lost dog".  "Well, it is a little brown and white dog and it has a tag on the collar with your phone number and address on it".  They said they lived by the bus depot and they gave directions to their house, but Brian didn't know the area so they said they would take the bus to the Marina Walmart and give him the dog.  Brian was very suspicious, but went to meet them.  At Walmart, he was met by a young Mexican woman carrying a very small brown and white dog.  Sure enough, the dog had a tag around its neck attached to a cord (not a collar).  Brian was surprised as the tag was indeed one of ours that we had made for our own dogs and our fosters (we have no idea how it was lost).  The woman seemed very genuine, so Brian decided to take the dog. He offered her $50 pesos (about $4 dollars) for her trouble which she declined obviously pleased the dog had been returned.  That is how Pinto Bean became a MexPup.  She is about 7 months old, and was in good shape weighing about 4.8 pounds.  She was a frightened little thing, but soon settled into the rest of the pack at her foster home.   She looks like a cross between a chihuahua and a King Charles Spaniel, a beautiful little dog.  She appears to be house broken and walks well on a leash, but obviously was hit because if you raise your voice or a hand she cowers.   We can’t wait to find her a wonderful home that will care for her and make her a cherished part of the family.

Janet had heard of Mexpup through her daughter who works with Karen. She was looking for a small dog and Pinto Bean fits that description well. Beany, as she is now called, was the perfect match for her and Janet’s lap is a perfect fit for Beany (except when Janet is knitting, that gets in the way of Beany’s napping). Beany enjoys playing with all her new toys, walks around her new neighborhood and whipping around the house. She is fast!! When she’s not having fun or chasing her tail, she’s getting all the love and cuddles she could ever want.

Tucker: Adopted! November 4, 2012

Picture
We don’t know how Brandy ended up at the local high kill shelter, we only know she was there and she had her litter of puppies with her.  The acopio is a tough place for any dog, but it is an especially horrible place for puppies.  The combination of too many sick dogs, too much illness and not enough cleaning, make it a deathtrap for many of them.  Thankfully, the SPCA was able to pull Brandy and all of her pups.  They went to the sanctuary to get healthy and they grew.  By the time they were ready to travel, the summer cargo travel ban was in place for most airlines and they were too big to fly in cabin….they were stuck.  Time passed and a few of them still remained.  Thankfully, one MexPup volunteer knew someone looking for a dog and they figured out that Tucker would be the perfect match.  The vet gave him clearance to travel, a flight was booked and Tucker was on his way home.  He is 9 months old and weighs about 17 kilos.  He is a sweet boy that needs to gain some confidence, and he is well on his way to becoming a great dog.  Now that he will have a family of his own, we are confident the best is yet to come for him.

Tucker has found an amazing home with some pretty amazing people. He has a new person named Charlie and when Charlie was on our Mex Pup website he knew Tucker was for him. Can we say love at first sight?  Yes we can.  Charlie is a toddler, and pointed out to mom that this was his new puppy. So mom inquired, and sure enough, Tucker was available and the process began to bring this beautiful boy home to his people. Tuckers mom and dad have a farm, so when they go out to the farm, Tuckers parents insist he has whippet in him as he can “run, run, run”. Tucker and his mom just finished his first 13km run. YAY Tucker.  Tuckers parents say that his sweet and gentle demeanor are a perfect fit for their family and that Tucker and Charlie are best of friends, so much that Tucker, tucks in Charlie to bed every night. A very sweet beginning for this sweet boy. Thank you Dallas and family.

Max (formerly Chicles): Adopted! November 3, 2012

Picture
Chicles had been hanging around the neighborhood for a few days.  He was seen digging through the trash and seemed desperate for food.  One day Thelma saw him lying on his back, listless with a sad face.  She knew she had to do something to help him.  She approached him and tried to make friends, but he turned and ran.  Not having any experience in this, she called Angeles who she knew has rescued many dogs off the street.  10 minutes later she arrived with a bit of food and Chicles was more than happy to make some friends, get a bite to eat, and take a car ride.  As soon as he climbed in, it was obvious that he had been in a car before as he settled right down like it was a completely normal thing.  The first stop was the vets as this approximately 5 year old guy needed lots of medical attention…..and that is how Chicles started his new life.  We don’t know what happened in his old life, but we do know that no one was looking out for him and he deserves better than that.  It has taken about 2 months, but this guy is now healthy and ready to find a new family.  He weighs about 29 kilos, has all his vaccinations, is neutered and can’t wait to have his very own family to love.  He is house trained and leash trained.  He loves going for walks but is nervous to be out on his own or off leash.  He does great with other dogs; is very playful and tolerant (even with food & toys).  He is a masterful destroyer of stuffed animals, but is respectful of shoes and household items.  He loves car rides, playing with his foster fur sibling, and cuddling with people, but be warned, as he also has a bit of a foot fetish.  He deserves a place to live where he will be cared for, valued and loved.

Max (formerly Chicles), has hit the jackpot with Andre and Jane! Andre was surfing the
net when he came across a Mexpup post and Max was what this family was looking for. Max is not alone in his new family, and has a fur sibling named Bebe who is a Boston terrier. There is also a little kitten named Booboo. Max is already fond of his fur siblings, although he's not quite sure what to make of the 15 budgies that live in the avery in the garage, but he's a good boy and leaves them alone. Max loves his long daily walks with his family and fur-blings and is great off leash too. This great natured guy enjoys lounging on the couch in the evening and spending time with his new family. Lucky pup, lucky family! This is a success story.

Rosie (formerly Pebbles): Adopted! November 1, 2012

Picture
Tere and her 9 year old niece were walking along and as they approached a pile of trash, they heard a cry. They looked a bit closer, saw something moving, and discovered a 1.5 month old female pup wrapped in a rag.  She was very weak and barely moving.  Tere’s 9 year old niece scooped up the puppy and the three of them went home with the little girl in tears repeating, “Please tia (auntie in Spanish) we have to do something to help her.”  It was late, so they took the puppy to their neighborhood vet and were told that the puppy was severely dehydrated and malnourished.  She was full of fleas and had a skin problem.  After she got some treatment, they took her home where she got a good meal and a soft place to sleep.  The little one was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep.  That is how Pebbles became a MexPup.  She has been in foster care for over a month and has done extremely well.  In late July at almost 3 months old (approximately) she weighs 2.2 kilos.  She is just a tiny little thing, but she has a great big presence.  She is stealing hearts wherever she goes.  She is very playful and loves her foster fur siblings.  She loves to play, but also loves to cuddle.  We expect her to be on the small side of medium when she is a full grown pup, but since we don’t know her parents, that part is always a guess.  Are you looking for a special little pup to join your home?  She is sure to make some family very happy.

Rosie started out tossed aside in the trash, like her life meant nothing. Her life as a Mexpup will never see her treated as nothing ever again. Her proud and doting new parents Greg and Abbey just adore this little bundle of joy. This little girl goes everywhere with her daddy; from dropping the kids off at pre-school, to joining mom at pre-school, to hanging with her new fur sibling Izzy and all the other kids in her pack. Originally supposed to be a daddy’s girl, but I suspect she’s a mommy’s girl too. Abbey describes Rosie as an ice cube loving, hoping like a horse, gentle, and full of love little gal. Rosie loves to eat says her new mom and dad and will even attempt to eat her fur sibling Izzy’s food too. Rosie has a bright and loving future ahead of her now, is growing and loving life. Her family has planned a road trip for everyone including Rosie and Izzy to Prince Edward Island next summer. Thank you Greg and Abbey for loving her like all Mexpuppers do.

Stu: Adopted! November 1, 2012

Picture
We first saw Stanley II as we were passing him on the street driving home.  Traffic was pretty heavy behind us so we went around the block and came back to find him but he was gone.  He looked so skinny and his mange just made him look pathetic.  The next day when Stephanie was coming to our home, she saw him but wasn’t able to get him.  She came over, got Patty and they set out to find him.  They were prepared to hunt the streets but almost immediately saw a small puppy in major distress.  They had to help her first and once she was in the car, they didn’t know what to do……get the puppy to the vet or make the search for Stu.  Well, the good news is that Stanley II was more than helpful in the whole process.  He was only 2 blocks from where they found the puppy.  He was actually climbing the hill to Todd & Patty’s home - had he heard about MexPup, got tired of waiting to be found and decided to rescue himself?  Well, no matter the backstory, he was there and was more than happy to eat some food, have a leash looped around his neck and get in the car with a bit of help.  Let me tell you, Stu is a sweet older guy (on the low end we think he is 10, but he could easily be 12).  He is way too skinny and has had way too difficult a life at his age.  Seniors do not need to be on the street – they need to have a nice place to spend the day, hearty meals, a cozy bed and some love.  Our plan is to make sure that Stu gets exactly that.  Seniors aren’t so easy to adopt out.  There aren’t many people looking for an older dog with history and issues, but that won’t stop us.  We couldn’t say no to this guy just because it will be really hard to find him a forever home.  He deserves our help just as all the others do and we are committed to make a difference for him.  Stanley II was once a cute little lab puppy that someone took into their home.  He is now a wonderful senior and we hope that someone will open their hearts & minds to the possibility of adopting this great guy.  He is here and waiting….are you ready, willing and able to help?

Mudge (formally Dixie): Adopted! October 27, 2012

Picture
Janice received a phone call about a dog giving birth in a vacant lot.  By the time they arrived, it was getting dark and Dixie was found with only one new born pup.  They searched without any success and then took her into care at the sanctuary with Milo, her little puppy.  At first, Dixie was very sad, depressed and wanted
nothing to do with the little baby.  They encouraged her and by the end of a
week she had become a doting mom, but she remained very shy and so scared of people.  She had Ehrlicia but couldn’t be treated until her little guy was weaned.  Even with that challenge, she hung in there and continued to be a good mom.  Once Milo was weaned, she was able to interact more with people and other dogs which started her on the path to come out of her shell.   Early in this process a young woman entered her room and approached her.  She knew the woman was kind, but still had to fight her fear scooting on her belly towards the woman so she could be petted.  She wanted the love and contact, but had obviously experienced the worst side of people.  We are happy to report that Dixie has done very well in recovery and she is ready for a forever family. This wonderful girl is much more comfortable and is very sweet with all people. Dixie is about 4 years old and weighs 28 kilos.  She really likes big male dogs, but needs a proper introduction to other dogs (and even so doesn’t get along with all of them).  She hasn’t been around cats, so we aren’t certain how she will do with them (likely a no cat home might be best for her).  After all that she has been through, we want to get Dixie the wonderful, loving, forever home that she deserves.

Mudge (formerly Dixie) was adopted by John, Molly and their two boys. Mudge has a very special name, she's named after Molly's grandmother- a very special woman! Mudge is short for (big breath) Madam-Marjorie-Mae-Minerva-Sullivan-Martin. As Mudge's English is still developing, she's taken to her nickname, Mudge nicely. Mudge is coming right out of her shell, and the family is seeing more and more of her personality developing each day. John is greeted daily when he comes home from work by a friendly howl "HOOWW-LL ARE YOU?!". John comes home and his lunch breaks and takes Mudge out for a walk. Mudge is great on the leash already and is a very friendly dog. John said when they went to meet Mudge at her foster home, they knew instantly that she was meant for them. Mudge was thrilled to be in her new home- the cats are still deciding what to make of Mudge, but we have faith that in time they will come around. John says that "Mudge has found her family" and we couldn't be happier for them!

Neyva (formerly Nikke): Adopted! October 14, 2012

Picture
Tatyana and her husband were on their way to dinner when they saw Nikke lying underneath a truck.  She was very weak, so skinny (all her ribs and her back bone were showing) and she barely had the energy to move.  Dinner plans were put on hold as Tatyana stayed with Nikke while her husband went back to their home for some food and water.  She tried to feed this sweet girl, but she started retreating in fear.  After only a few steps, she ran out of steam and lay back under the truck again.  Thankfully, they were eventually able to hand feed her and then left her with some food and water.   After their dinner, they couldn’t find her anywhere near the truck she had been under.  The next day they found her in almost the exact same spot, but this time she didn't even move.  As she heard Tatyana’s voice she started wagging her tail and that is where the best part of the story happens, this wonderful couple decided to take her home and care for her until she got better.  She was covered in fleas & ticks, so the first item on the agenda was a bath, followed by a nice meal and finally, a comfy bed so she could have a good night’s sleep.  She was already looking better, but she still had no energy. The next day they went to the vets for a thorough evaluation.  She was severely anemic along with a few other issues, but her prognosis was good.  Little by little she started looking healthier and more full of life and so she got the name "Nikke" which means "Full of Life".  After a period of quarantine, she was introduced to the other members of this great family, 4 Pugs and a cat.  Nikke loves playing with all of them, although the cat isn’t quite sure about the new arrival.  This 9 month old sweetheart is also great with kids and is a very loving girl.  When rescued she weighed 9.6 kilos and is now up to 15.3 kilos.  We expect her to be on the large side of a medium sized dog.  She is already trained to heal off leash when walking and her recall is great.  She is very gentle and such a smart, trainable girl.  We know that she will do well with whichever family is lucky enough to adopt her!

Connie first learned about Mexpup through her Neighbour who had adopted one of the original Mexpups. She was considering a dog, and decided to make a move by adopting a
Mexpup!  Neyva, formerly Nikke, has moved in with her new family, and boy is she making the most of life! Connie
(Neyva’s new mom) has a day care, and that suits Neyva just fine as she LOVES kids! She loves to be around them and lick their faces- especially if they have food on them! Connie’s 7 year old son is probably Neyva’s biggest fan, and he is Neyva’s too. Neyva is starting to flourish into a well rounded pup- although she still has her orangutan moments, but what pup doesn’t? Neyva has also been hired part time as roomba, cleaning bits of food off the floor from day care litter bugs, and is trying to make friends with the kitty- although we think Neyva wants to be friends more than the kitty does (but we won’t tell Neyva).

Laci: Adopted! October 13, 2012

Picture
Laci was found by a security guard wandering around inside a gated condominium complex.  Since there was no way for her to get in, he was certain that her owner was in one of the condos.  He put her in a secure area and waited confidently for the owners to turn up.  A week passed without a single inquiry, and the management told him that he could no longer keep her there.  The kind man then took her home with him naively still believing that she was wanted and the owner would be found.  Eventually, he realized that there was no one looking her and she had likely been abandoned.  His dog was very territorial and he realized he needed to find another solution.  He asked a woman he knew for help and that is how Laci ended up being fostered at the SPCA sanctuary.  She is a sweet girl and loves to be with people.  This approximately one and a half year old pup weighs 6 kilos.  She is good with the other dogs and has very sweet temperament.

Picture
Laci made the long journey to her new home in Canada. She did a great job on her long trip and is happy to be settled into her new home. She’s doing very well in her new home and her new family are very happy with her. Kathy adopted Laci because she thought she could use a lot of love- and that’s
just what Laci needed! Kathy’s daughter was the one who introduced Kathy to Mexpup through the wonderful miracle of the web! Laci is playing well with other dogs, and her favourite things are TREATS TREATS TREATS! Laci is starting to know where she lives, and is excited to be home.

Stella (formerly Tasha): Adopted! October 12, 2012

Picture
Tere was on her way to the market to buy fruit when she found a small pup in the trash.  It was midday in the summer, and this little one was in the glaring sun without water. Tere asked around to see if anyone would claim her or had any information……not
surprisingly, no one stepped up on behalf of this pup.  The next step is the
wonderful one that changes lives as Tere picked her up and let her know that she would never be on her own again.  Tasha is about 8 months old and weighs about 5+ kilos.  She was very skinny and is slowly gaining weight, but she will likely remain a small girl when fully grown.  This shy little girl started in foster care with her tail tucked between her legs most of the time.  She had a cut on her ear and other signs that she has had a hard life.  Tasha is now in a foster home where she gets care, love and a sense of security.  She is getting the chance to meet people & animals in a positive environment to help her gain confidence, and she is learning that life doesn’t have to be so scary.  A bit of the good life and a loving person are helping her to prepare for a forever home, a place where she will be loved and valued.  Please share her story so that the right home can be found.  She certainly deserves it.

Carol & Mikaela had been on the hunt for a dog for about 2 years. They were debating between a breeder and a rescue dog. Their friends had recently adopted a Mexpup (Mijo) and they felt drawn to the Mexpup organization and their cause. Carol and Mikaela decided they too wanted to make a difference in the world, and decided to adopt a homeless dog. They came across Stella “It was the sadness in her eyes and her hunched over look that just said "please take me". Her picture painted a sad story behind her that we were drawn to her and we knew we could offer her an amazing life that she deserved...She seemed like such a sweet gentle girl that just wanted to be loved and kept safe.” The family picked the name Stella because its Latin for "Star".  They knew right away it was a perfect fit and felt that it was a strong name for a pup that went through so much and had persevered. When I asked what was their favourite thing about Stella, Carol replied “EVERYTHING!!! She is so sweet and gentle.  She is very easy going and loves everyone. She approaches everyone a little hesitant but with her tail wagging and acts like she never lost her faith in people.” Now days, Stella lives a great life with lots of love, play and cuddles. Stella loves to play hide-and-go-seek in her donut bed with the cushion on top of her, and she will peek out like a hermit  crab.  If a toy is in reach her paw will secretly come out and scoop it up and drag it into her "shell", all while hiding her entire body/face. Stella other adorable feature is her distaste for mornings!  When you try to wake her up, she'll flop around the bed and won't let you pick her up.  When you finally get a hold of her, she teeters over and flops back to bed. In the summertime, Stella's family plans on taking her for hikes and lots of camping. They also go to Calgary a lot to visit family and she will be meeting the rest of them.  She will also be starting puppy day care 1 day a week for fun, now that she has gained confidence around other dogs, especially the big ones. “We couldn't be more happier with Stella.  She is a joy to have around and has brought so much into our lives.  We are so in love with her and we couldn't be any luckier.
We thank Mexpup for all that they do and for finding and pairing these dogs up with families.  It has made such a difference in our lives as well as Stella's.”

Willow (formerly Buffy): Adopted!  October 11, 2012

Picture
Buffy had a family.  Then one day she had a litter of pups and that was that.  The family took her and her puppies to the local high kill shelter.  I don’t understand the logic.  They are the ones that didn’t get her spayed.  They are the ones that let her out of the house while she was in heat.  They are the ones that allowed her to get pregnant and then they punished her for it.  Thankfully, the puppies were quickly adopted but Buffy remained at the acopio and this mama was sad.  One volunteer met her and pleaded to get her out.  Thankfully, a space was found for her at the SPCA sanctuary, but then she had to be pulled from the acopio, which proved more challenging than you might think.  On the first attempt, Teddy was rescued, on the second it was Cookie & her pups, the third gave a chance to Muffin, and then finally on the 4th attempt Buffy was free.  It is so awesome that the rescue of this one dog allowed 7 additional dogs to get their second chance.  Buffy is about 2.5 years old and weighs about 9.5 kilos.  This sweet and playful girl is leash trained and energetic.  She does great with other dogs and seems to simply like everyone.  She loves to get attention from people, and gives kisses and love with abandon.  This confident little girl deserves a wonderful forever home, so please help us find one for her.

Willow (formerly Buffy) was adopted by Janice and her
fiancé.  When Mexpup called to see how everything was going, Janice happily reported that they are both so thrilled to have her, and they adore her! The story all started for Janice when she was looking on Petfinder. They were toying with the idea of getting a dog, but when
Janice saw a photo of Buffy, she told her Fiance about the website but didn’t tell him what dog she had her eye one. Low and behold, he came back and said that he liked this particular cute little grey pup we know now as Willow, and the rest is history! Willow moved right in and was a shy timid girl for the first few hours, and then she decided that she was safe and it was OK to be herself. Janice loves Willows energy, and spunk! Willow is a great jumper, and loves to jump for toys. she can get upwards of 3ft off the ground and catch her toys midair- and then she throws them for herself again (she’s very self sufficient). But just because she can entertain herself, doens’t mean she likes to go without a snuggle, this 3ft bouncing ball of bliss loves to curl up in a ball in your arms at the end of the day for a good ol’ fashioned snuggle. Willow can rest easy now knowing that she’s at home- for good.

Cruz: Adopted! October 10, 2012

Picture
Cruz was found on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. He had been seen for a few days and was obviously not doing well on his own. He had open wounds, puncture marks that seemed to be dog bites and he was extremely undernourished. Many people saw him each day, but one realized that he needed help and decided to make a difference. Gitta got him to the vet to get his wounds treated and to have a general health check. The good news is that he is generally healthy and now with food & a loving home, is on the mend for the issues he did have. Cruz is approximately one year old, weighs about 50 lbs and was recently neutered. He is a very handsome dog with blond, short haired which make us think he is possibly part shepherd and lab (or maybe not). He is a very intelligent dog, is good natured, is fond of children, and for a large dog he likes to cuddle. He walks well on a leash and is not prone to barking. He is house broken (has never had an accident in the house) and is not destructive (can be left alone in the house without any problems). He is a dominant male and should probably find a family that does not have another male dog, but he does get along with female dogs. At first he did not know how to play (probably because he spent his short life protecting himself from other dogs and people on the streets), but he is now playing with his new toys and is starting to fetch. It is a joy to watch him learn to just be a dog. This energetic pup needs exercise, but is also content to just sit next to his human while watching. He cannot be in a home with cats and needs a firm but gentle leader……could it be you?

Picture
Cruz was proving to be an excellent student at his dog training school.  So much so, that when his teacher's friend asked about adopting a dog, Cruz was the first one she recommended.  Cruz has found a loving home in Puerto Vallarata where he gets to go for walks, plays in the park, visits the beach and continues loving life.  His new owner Vital is the kind, firm leader that Cruz needs.  Cruz is excelling in his new home and the love between him and his new family is obvious.  Another happy ending.  Felicidades Cruz!

Zoe (formerly Sakura): Adopted!  October 2, 2012

Picture
Sakura was seen on the street digging through the trash in search of food.  Lucky for her, she was in front of the home with a nice family that loves animals.  They had met Angeles when they adopted their dog and immediately called her to ask for help.  This little one was covered in fleas and ticks (really seriously infested), but that didn’t stop them from taking her in and keeping her safe until the next day when Angeles could get her.  No surprise that their first stop was to the vets and immediately into a medicated bath.  She was thin and tested positive to some tick borne disease.  She has been in care for 3 weeks now and is doing well.  Sakura has gained some weight but isn’t a very big girl at only 3.5 kilos.  She is about 1.5 years old and has taken well to her foster home.  She is living with both cats and dogs and gets along with everyone.  She is hoping for a new family that will make sure she never ends up in such poor condition again.  Let’s help her find her family!

Zoe, formerly Sakura, was in this world for a reason- she had a destiny. Her destiny would be to travel to Canada to save someone. That someone
happened to be Dale.  The story goes that Mexico was not an unfamiliar place for Dale, she had many happy  memories in Mexico with her husband, but tragically, he passed away and recently
so did their beloved family pet. Dale’s daughter adopted a Mexpup and encouraged Dale to consider adopting one too.  Zoe’s photo and story touched Dale’s heart.  Dale knew the moment Zoe came home; she knew that love was back in the house again. “Adopting Zoe is the best thing I could have done... It’s truly a love story” said Dale.  Zoe lives a beautiful life now with Dale, and even has a great big German Sheppard to play with at times. Zoe is loved, and is going wonderfully. Dale thought that she was rescuing Zoe, but as Dale said, Zoe actually rescued her.

Leia: Adopted! October 2, 2012

Picture
Leia turned up in the neighborhood one day. Maureen began noticing her while out walking and each day that passed, she was a bit dirtier and a bit skinnier. Leia was shy and nervous, hiding whenever they tried to get close. A plan was hatched, a courtship began, and two days later little Leia was at the vets getting the once over. She has some wounds and a few skin issues, but was not too bad for a pup that had been living on the street. She was a bit shy & hesitant once in John & Maureen’s home, but she also really wanted to make friends with their 2 dogs. She rides very well in the car, gets along well with other dogs & has picked up on house training quite quickly. We believe that Leia is about 1.5 years old and was 9 lbs when rescued and will likely end up at 12 lbs or so as a healthy weight. She is a perky little thing now that she believes she’s not going to be kicked. All of her wounds will heal, her skin will clear up and she will regain her confidence……but she will still not have a forever home. That is the one thing we can’t provide to her, only one wonderful family can do that for her. Could it be yours?

After...

Picture
Leia was adopted by Gary and Barb. They read her story and fell in love with her pictures and waited and waited until this sweet girl was healthy enough to make the incredible journey from Mexico to Canada and the wait was worth it! Leia is one lucky pup!  She has a wonderful fur sister named Holly that she gets to play with and steal dinner from. Nonetheless, Holly is happy to have her! It also helps to have company in the back seat of the car of course too. Leia and her sister enjoy daily walks and the Vancouver Island weather is doing wonders for her skin as her hair is filling in nicely. We are looking forward to watching this lucky pup grow and blossom now that she's safe and sound and living the life she deserves.

Carmen & Claudia had seen Custard over the course of a few weeks.  He had been living on the streets and hanging out near a trash pile.  They would leave food for him, but he wasn’t interested in being caught.  Well, we’re guessing this cutie realized that he really needed help as his physical condition was deteriorating.  One day when the girls were leaving him food, they were able to put a leash on him.  They took him to the vets and started him on the treatment that he desperately needed.  He has mange, as you can see from the pictures, but that doesn’t stop him from being a sweet, affectionate pup.  He is about 5 months old and is a small/medium size puppy that will likely grow into a medium sized adult dog.  He has settled into his foster home and is getting all the care & love he deserves.  He is now very fond of belly scratches and greets everyone with a tail wag.  We are pleased that he is off the streets and now we just need to get him healthy so we can find him a forever home.  Please help by sharing his story & donating for his care – this guy deserves it!

Steph and Mike were already Mexpuppers, as they had adopted Nova in July. Benny joined his new fur sisters Paige and Nova and settled in right away! Bouncing Benny (as he is affecionatly called) has a great new life. He enjoys walks around the farm they live on as well as hikes and beach trips. Benny is looking forward to a trip to Mt. Washington this winter where they will all get to enjoy the snow for the first time in his life! Benny Is full of life and is living it with all his might! We can't wait to see how this pup grows and develops with his newfound Canadian citizenship.

Audrey: Adopted! September 23, 2012

Picture
We don’t know how Brandy ended up at the local high kill shelter, we only know she was there and she had her litter of puppies with her.  The acopio is a tough place for any dog, but it is an especially horrible place for puppies.  The combination of too many sick dogs, too much illness and not enough cleaning make it a deathtrap for
too many puppies.  Thankfully, the SPCA was able to pull Brandy and all of her pups.  They went to the sanctuary to get healthy and they grew.  By the time they were ready to travel, the summer cargo travel ban was in place for most airlines and they were too big to fly in cabin….they were stuck.  Time passed and they were still there.  MexPup had 2 spaces on a plane and both the MexPups that were scheduled to fly needed a bit more time in PV.  We always try to use every space and so Audrey & Jack got the call.  The vet gave them the green light and it was time to get these pups to their new country.  Audrey is 7 months old and weighs about 19 kilos.  She is a good dog and will make a wonderful addition to a lucky family.  She does well with other dogs and loves people.  She hasn’t met cats yet, so we aren’t sure how she will do with them but we know that she is a smart girl and can be trained.

Audrey started her life at the Acopio and was thankfully saved. She waited at the SPCA for her forever family and the perfect one found her,
Audrey has a great life now. Her family Sam and Mark just love her! She goes to the
beach every day and loves running around and prancing like a little doe.  Audrey is gaining her confidence and one of her favorite friends is a
Great Dane! Audrey has been working on her English and is learning some new words and
commands and is doing great.  She is especially lucky to have the company of her older fur sibling when her humans are out.  cuddles on the couch every evening are now part of Audreys routine Instead of searching for food and shelter. Knowing that she's safe and has a family that loves her is something she's never had. We couldn't have wished better for this girl.

Julia: Adopted! September 23, 2012

Picture
Andres was grocery shopping at a big commercial center when he saw a little dog following all of the people who had grocery bags or food.  Finally, smart as she is, the little pup ran right into the grocery store! (After all...everyone coming out of there had food with them!)  Of course she got chased back out of the store, and Andres asked around if anyone knew who she belonged to.  No one did.  This little puppy, hungry and scared, then looked like she was going to attempt crossing a busy intersection to continue her search for food and companionship.  This is the moment Andres knew he had to step in.  He asked for a piece of chicken from the rotisserie and made an instant new best friend.  With his gift of food, Andres was able to get a closer look at this little sweetie.  She is young (about 2 months old), little (about 5.5kgs) and when she was initially picked up her ears were unimaginably full of ticks.  Seeing this, Andres knew that he needed to take this baby home.   He called his wife Michelle (who can never say no to a rescue!) and Julia became the newest member of their pack.  She luckily tested negative for the most common illnesses that affect puppies on the street, but her immune system was very weak from her tick infestation.  She is in treatment for her issues, gaining weight and improving every day.  She loves to play with her foster fur siblings and is enjoying every minute of her now worry free life.  Julia will be looking for a forever family, so please help us by sharing her story.

Angie, formerly Julia, moved to Vancouver Island, where she lives with her new family, Kyle. Kyle initially knew someone who was a foster for Mexpup, and started checking the website on a regular basis. He happened to see Angie’s photo, and knew it was time to make her part of his family. Angie loves being Canadian, but most of all- loves her chuck-it (a device that allows you to throw a ball a long ways) and she thinks it’s just great! Angie has neighbour friend dogs she gets to play with on a regular basis, and they chase each other like crazy around in the back yard. Angie is expecting to have a fur-sibling (another Mexpup) join her shortly. Soon Kyle’s family will be complete! Angie's life in Mexico wasn’t a promising one, but now she’s embarked on a new adventure, and is living life to the Max. We can't wait to see the final portait of this family!

Annie: Adopted! September 20, 2012

Picture
Annie was found on a busy street dodging traffic.  It seems that she had been living on the streets.  We don’t know how she got there, but we can probably guess what life was like…..scavenging for food and water, hiding from people that would do her harm, and trying to stay cool and dry during our hot rainy summers.  Someone saw her, someone decided to make a difference, and someone stopped to help Annie.  She ended up at the SPCA sanctuary where she got healthy. They take great care of the animals there providing not only food, water, shelter & medicine, but also love and attention.  Each time we visit, I am so grateful that wonderful place exists.  Annie is about 9 months old.  She is a happy and energetic little girl.  She is always ready to cuddle quietly or play with joy.

Picture
Angelina and her boyfriend had decided to get a dog. They had
decided they wanted to get a dog, and not a puppy so that they could support a good cause and give a home to a dog in need.  They stumbled upon Mexpup, and put in an application for Annie. There was some back and forth, as Annie was originally spoken for, but luck was on Angelina’s side as Annie suddenly became available! They didn’t waste any time, and scooped up this wonderful girl. Annie has a lot of energy, and we mean A LOT! However, this is exactly what Angelina and her boyfriend wanted- in fact, they find it adorable! Annie has got so much personality and spunk, but that’s no issue for her new mom and dad! They provide great outlets for all of Annie’s energy. Annie has someone home with her 24/7 and loves going to the dog parks and the beach. She loves running in the sand, and does her own little ‘sand dance’. Annie is very affectionate and attached to her people. She makes sure to go everywhere her parents go- even if it means guarding the shower while you’re in it. After a day full of spending energy, she lies down in bed with all 4 feet in the air and after a good long cuddle, she’s made enough energy to do it all again the next day. We’re so happy that Annie has landed herself in a great home with people that understand her, and love her

Pepe: Adopted! September 16, 2012

Picture
He was walking his dogs one day when a small, skinny Chihuahua joined them.  He followed them along their path all the way to the end – his home.  What to do?  The pup wouldn’t leave, had no collar and was very thin (and he was tiny to begin with).  Well, they tried to find an owner, but no one seemed to be looking for the pup, so he took him to his vet and asked for help.  Pepe is a 4 year old Chihuahua who was found on the streets by one of Dr. Pena’s clients.  He is a distinguished looking little guy with a little white dusting on a mostly black coat.  At only 1.6 kilos he came into Dr. Pena’s care a skinny, anemic little guy covered in fleas and ticks.  His personality is all about love.  He wants to trust the people he meets, but he’s cautious until you show him love. He also loves to run (just ask his foster mom Candace), so a leash is recommended at all times!   This little guy will make a great companion, lap dog, shoulder dog, pillow dog… you name it!  So how about it - who’s ready to add a 6-7 year old, 4 pound loving Pepe to their family?

After.....

Picture
Debbie decided to do what many of us Victorians do and look on used Victoria, and she was looking for nothing in particular.  Once she found Pepe’s photo, the deal was done. Pepe came into Debbie’s life at 3.7lbs. He is now 4.4 lbs and gaining! Debbie said that having Pepe in their lives is so wonderful, and it couldn’t be a better fit!  Even Debbie’s kids say that Pepe was meant to be in their family. Pepe has another fur sibling - Lily.  The cats are a slower transition, but Debbie has no doubts that they’ll get there. Pepe’s favorite things are tomatoes, cuddles and sleeping under the covers.  He’s learned the art of ‘mooching’ and does the odd Houdini trick out of the yard, but never ventures off. Pepe has even started to give kisses - something that was a foreign concept to him before coming to this family. We’re so happy that Pepe has found his forever home where he really is one of the family

Sheldon (formerly Young Blood): Adopted! Sept 9, 2012

Picture
Lydia was walking her dogs on Isla Cuale when she saw a think pup running loose.  Young Blood recognized a good thing when he saw it and he quickly joined her pack on their walk.  Once he joined them, there was no turning back.  Although she doesn’t have space for another dog, Lydia knew she had to help this guy.  She started by getting him to the Colina Spay & Neuter Clinic and committed to fostering Young Blood until he could find a new family. He is a little more than one year old, weighs 19 kilos and has a beautiful brindle coat.  His sweet disposition and desire to please has made him fit in great with the dogs, cats, kids and adults.  At first this beautiful greyhound mix is shy, but once you get to know him he’s full of personality and love.  He is a strong yet gentle guy that is leash trained and house broken.  He is a healthy boy and needs daily exercise.  If you are looking for a new family member to join you on your adventures, to take hiking and to bring a sparkle into your life, this could be just the right guy for you.  He is ready for his new family, are you ready for him?

Sheldon was fortunate to capture Kelly’s eye. He became part of her family and has really started to come out of his shell. He is enjoying life and learning how to be a dog and enjoys playing and laying in the backyard in the sunshine. Sheldon is pretty unique pup- one night, he escaped from his crate, and Kelly found him quietly sleeping on a chair. He loves laying on furniture so much, that Kelly actually bought him his very own chair and boy, does he ever love it! Kelly has a large property with horses, which Sheldon thinks are very large and strange looking creatures that he’s still trying to figure out.  He is getting used to a routine and goes to the barn with Kelly in the mornings to feed the horses, but he would much rather hang out with the chickens- or better yet take a nap. Sheldon thinks every day is Sunday- that is a day or rest and sleeping in. Kelly has to roust his lazy doggy bones out of bed every morning to get the day started. Once he’s up, he has chores to do, and when he’s done with those, he takes a nap.

Tiffany (formerly Muffin): Adopted! September 4, 2012

Picture
Sometimes it is just your day.  Sometimes after lots of bad luck, things thankfully turn around.  Gretchen made a plea for a mama dog to get rescued from the high kill shelter in PV.  Twice people had gone to get her and pulled the wrong dog.  The 3rd attempt made resulted in Muffin being rescued.  Once she was safe, it was again realized that they had the wrong dog but that didn’t matter.  They would go back and get the mama they were looking for, but this little one just had the best day of her life.  She was now getting the second chance they all deserve.  Her mouth was in bad shape, so she not only got a cleaning, but had to have 3 teeth extracted.  She will need extra care for her teeth throughout life (regular checkups, brushing and good nutrition).  She is approximately 3 years old and weighs 5.3 kilos (she could be younger, but it is hard to estimate because of the condition of her teeth).  To say that Muffin is unbelievably sweet is an understatement.  She is a loving pup that gets along with all other dogs and people as well.  We expect she would do great with cats or with any other creature – she just has that way about her.  She loves to cuddle, loves to be with people, and simply loves to give love and to be loved.  After the obviously tough start to life that she had, we can’t wait to find her a family that will make sure she gets the proper care she needs and that she never has to suffer again.

Tiffany took about 3 days to settle into her new home. She’s becomes really
quite attached very quickly, so it took her a little extra time to adjust. Christa says that she has moments of hilarious happiness, so they know they’re going in the right direction. Her family decided to rename her omething a little more elegant and lady like, like the gentle lady she is- so Tiffany she became. Tiffy loves her little bed, and her crate, she will even sleep in the crate during the day with the door wide open. She loves it and at night we close the door. The "hissing" cat has now become a "kissing" cat, and the two of them
affectionately rub noses many times a day. Although, the cat tried to get into Tiffy's bed once, but Tiffy escorted him right out! Tiffy is still working on her English, as she’s still fluent in Spanish. Blending into a family can take time, especially with a sensitive dog like Tiffy, but Christa is willing to put in the time and effort for her new found perfect poodle. Tiffy has a bright and happy future ahead of her, and we can’t wait to watch her grow into the
confident and dazzling pup that’s just waiting to come out of her shell.

Sandi: Adopted! September 3, 2012

Picture
We were on the way to the welcome home party.  It was supposed to be a nice relaxing evening……until we spotted her just a block away all skin and bones.  What were we to do with people waiting for us and no place for the dog, we did what we do.  Out of the car, one with the dog, the other getting supplies, gentle, calm, food, leash, rescued…..breathe. That is what a rescue often looks like.  No plan, no forewarning, just a dog that needs help now.  Sandi is now in our spare room and we will figure out where she goes tomorrow.  She is sweet and gentle.  Sandi is beautiful.  She deserves another chance.  We are going to make sure that she gets that chance.

Picture
Derek and his family adopted Sandi, and they all quickly connected. They decided to keep her name although their last dog was Daisy, and Derek’s daughter’s name is Sidney so names can get mixed up now and again. Sandi has a bit of a strange fetish- she LOVES to smell armpits. She’s the deodorant control for the  household. Sandi is still a little leery of strange dogs but she has made friends with a few in the neighborhood, including a little shih-tzu downstairs. She has lots of energy, and is taken out on daily walks, and bike rides, but Sandi prefers it when the family sticks together- she’s very pack oriented. Sandi is very food motivated so training her is going to easy, although Sandi think that the sit command is a waste of time- why sit when I can stand and eat at the same time? Sandi’s found her place, her niche, her home, and we couldn’t be happier for her and her new family!

Oreo: Adopted! August 24, 2012

Picture
Stanley II (Stu) found a pup in need today and let his mom know about it.  Laura was on her way to work & made some adjustments so the pup could make his own way into the patio.  She arrived home to find that he hadn’t come in and now was in distress.  She made the call asking for help.  Stephanie & Todd jumped in the car without much information, but knew they were going to help a dog in need.  The gate with easy access to his location was locked so Todd set off to find bolt cutters while Steph started to make her way into the jungle.  She had to climb through vegetation down a hill and then cross the jungle floor before climbing a hill to get to the ledge where he was located.  He was hurt and scared and the approaching human didn’t make him feel any better.  There was a nip, there was some blood, but he was in her arms and they were on the move.  Once Stephanie got him, she was on a mission to get out (she was no fan of the various snakes and other creatures living in the area) as fast as they could.  Oreo is now with the vets getting the treatment that he needs.  We got the great news that he has no fractures or internal lesions, but he is in pain and has issues that still need to be resolved.  We are hopeful that he will do well and soon be in the recovery phase of his rescue.

Thank you Angie for opening your heart and your home to this boy.

Lilly: Adopted! August 24, 2012

Picture
When Rae-anna found a dog in need on the beach, she didn't walk by. She picked her up and carried her to her mom. This is the action of a child that we must support. This is the type of behavior that needs to be nurtured with a pat on the back and a simiple "yes". We didn't have space, but we had to say yes. Lilly has become a MexPup. We found a temporary boarding solution and have a foster home that will take her in 10 day. We didn't have a plan.....but we said yes and were committed. Lonna's family has stepped up - they rescued her, got her to the vet, got her care over the weekend and did what they could until they left for home.

When Jamie was asked “why Lily” she simply responded “why not- there was just something special about her, and I just knew she was the one.” Lily is such a people pleaser; she is one of the
most mellow and easy going dogs Jamie has ever come across. She’s great with her 2 kitty siblings, and Lily’s
favourite time of the day is
breakfast-lunch-dinner.  Lily
goes on long walks, and loves car rides. One thing that really struck Jamie about Lily is how well and intently Lily
listens to her. Lily is great on the leash, and has a very hakuna-matata attitude about life. Lilly is very fortunate as she will be getting a high quality education! Jamie friend is a certified animal trainer, and Lilly is going to spending some time getting puppy pointers.  Lilly’s life in Mexico was bleak, she was thin, hungry, and had no home. Thanks to Jamie she’s clean, well fed, and has a loving home to provide her with all the love care in the world.

Mataio (formerly Buddy): Adopted! August 24, 2012

Picture
Buddy was found wandering the streets of a neighborhood.  Thankfully Chuck and Claudia saw him, and knew he needed help.  Living on the streets is no place for a pup and so they decided to make a difference and took him into their home.  He is very affectionate and is very grateful to be in a foster home where he gets the love, care and attention he deserves.  Buddy is approximately one year old and weighs around 19 kilos.  He has a wonderful disposition showing lots of affection towards humans and real playfulness with other dogs.  He doesn’t live with any cats, but he hasn’t shown a shown a strong interest in them during walks. He is house trained and learned quickly to walk with a leash.  Buddy wants to please and has started learning some basic commands; we think he is very trainable.  He is ready, happy and ready to find his new family.  He would be a wonderful addition to anyone's life.  What do you say, are you ready to add a Buddy to your family?!

Dee Dee had travelled to some areas of our world surrounded with
unfortunate circumstances. The sight of skinny, sick, and homeless dogs was not a new concept for her. Unfortunately at the time, it was not widely known what someone from another country could do to help these helpless dogs, so all she
could do was feed them when she could.  What Dee Dee saw had changed her, and she vowed to help these dogs anyway she could. When she returned to Canada she started her quest to find a group that reaches out to the overlooked and forgotten souls.  When Dee Dee heard about Mexpup, it was only natural that she investigates more. When Mataio had come into the picture, it wasn’t a question of “should I or shouldn’t I” it was a questions “When can he come home”.  Mataio settled in really well to his new sourroundings, and he gets to go to work with Dee Dee every day. Mataio has 9 grand kids that he is very fond of. He treats each one so gently, and has a very sweet disposition.  Mataio had once hopelessly wondered the streets with an uncertain future, but thanks to Dee Dee, he is now safe, well fed, and most importantly loved.

Cleopatra: Adopted! August 24, 2012

Picture
Life did not start out easy for this little pup.  At 6 months old, Cleopatra was found on the street after being hit by a car.  Once taken to the vet, it was discovered that not only did she have a broken hip, but she was suffering from a very serious virus which is often deadly to pups her age.  After an intense treatment for Parvo (which this little fighter beat!), the SPCA needed to find her a foster home.  Because of her medical history, sending her to the sanctuary was not ideal.  Well, Michelle & Andres welcomed her into their pack and it was decided that she would become a MexPup.  We are so grateful to the SPCA de PV for all that they do and are thrilled that we have such a great working relationship with them.  It is wonderful for the dogs and for both organizations!  Not knowing her parents, it is hard to say how big Cleopatra will be when grown, but at 6 months old, she is about 8 kilos, and will likely be a medium, slender dog when she's fully grown.  Cleopatra is receiving physical therapy to help heal her hip injury, and is slowing gaining weight back after her illness.  She is learning new things every day, gaining confidence and energy, and has a playful spirit.  This sweetheart is so grateful to have a loving family and foster pack, and will be an amazing addition to her forever family.

Cleopatra has been affectionately nicknamed Cleo, and what a special girl she is! Dave says he couldn’t be happier with her. Cleo is veryhappy go lucky, and very playful, but she famously quiet. She’s very well mannered and very lady like.  Thank to all her care in Mexico, her leg has healed very well, although she has a a lasting distinctive prance. Dave says admiringly that she “runs like a little gazelle” as she prances about the yard.  Cleo’s life in Canada is drastically different than how it would have been in Mexico. She goes out exploring the world with Dave in the morning, gets a special (and delicious) diet, and gets plenty of love, hugs and attention. Cleo does like a little alone time, and curls up in her little crate in the evening, although she does sneak out for a little cuddle time with Dave in the morning. Cleo loves Canada, and loves her humans.  Thanks to Dave and his big heart, Cleo is in a good home, with good people, and in a good place.

Mini (formerly Bin): Adopted! August 22, 2012

Picture
The family got a puppy.  They hadn't done much planning or thinking, they just got one.  The longer she was in the home, the more they realized that she needed regular care.  She was only a little girl, but she needed grooming and other basics.  The reality was that they simply couldn't afford it, so another home was found.  She settled into the new home, but they also weren't really interested in the upkeep of a pup.  They had said yes to helping when asked, but they hadn't really thought it through.  Thankfully an employee from a vet clinic had been watching over Bin throughout this process.  When the second family started regretting their decision, she stepped right in, took the dog and got her into care.  Bin is an approximately 9 months old poodle mix.  She is very happy, social and easy going.  She only weighs about 6 kilos and does well with cats, dogs and humans.  She is quite a charmer as everyone that meets her says she is wonderful.  Are you looking for a special little one to join your family?  You might need to meet Bin as she definitely fits that bill.

Beckie and Larry decided they would get a dog.  They knew that having a dog could be life changing, but what they didn’t realise at the time that they were about to change a life.  Mini didn’t have an easy start and had already been through two families at 9 months that couldn’t provide the necessary care, or time for her. When Beckie and Larry found Mexpup, they were steered towards Mini, and when Mini came home for the first time, they all knew this would be the last home Mini would know. Mini moved right in, and had no issues adjusting to her new life. She may be small, but she’s got an enormous personality. Mini likes to keep her house nice and tidy, and likes to organise her toys in her bed.  When there is good weather, Mini (like most girls) head for the sunshine for some good old fashioned sun-basking! When Mini does something, she does it with style. Beckie caught the tail end of Mini re-organising her furniture and marching bed out into the yard where she could get some fresh air in comfort. Beckie says that Mini is undoubtedly part of the family- and she’s a distinguished member of her community Larry says, but that because she barks in Spanish.

Bella: Adopted! August 16, 2012

Picture
Bella was abandoned.  She was tied up along a river.  Thankfully it wasn’t rainy season yet as the rivers fill quickly and flow swiftly during those months.  I guess they tied her up as they didn’t want her to follow them home…..so very mean, so very sad, so very cruel.  Bella was saved because there are caring people.  She was saved by someone that values life and fights against cruelty.  Bella was saved because of people like you that support rescue groups, help cover costs and network to find wonderful new homes.  When she was taken into care, she was filled with fleas and ticks.  She also had multiple skin lesions and ehrlichia.  With loving care at the SPCA sanctuary, she has recovered beautifully and is now ready for a family.  She is approximately 1 year old and weighs about 9.5 kilos.  Bella gets along with other dogs, but is possessive of her food, toys and bones.  We are confident that with a bit of work, she will overcome these challenges.  More important than her challenges are her positives, she is very playful and a loving little girl.  She hasn’t been around any cats yet, but we know that she does well with kids (she loves them and they love her!).  Her sad life is behind her and now we look to the future where she will be part of a family receiving the care and love that she deserves.   Please help us to find her that home!

trail. Bella is also a regular at the dog park. Bella is definitely having fun with the other dogs. Every night they go to the dog park where we've become a part of the "regulars" group.
She does well with the other dogs and did well off leash, but was sure to check on Tracy periodically. Bella is learning to fetch, and doing is progressing every day on her puppy accomplishments. Bella is a blossoming girl and thanks to the love and care of the foster home and Tracy- her true colours are outstanding!

Tostada: Adopted!  August 13, 2012

Picture
Monica loves animals and cannot walk by them when they are in need.  That is how Chocomilla ended up at her home.  This sweet street dog wasn’t doing so well, so Monica took her in.  After a bit of time, it became obvious that she was pregnant.  A few weeks passed and 2 puppies were born.  Tostada entered the world in a home with love, care and security.  Her mom has been ill during her pregnancy, so the puppies had a few issues.  They have gotten the treatment they needed and are now well on the way to being healthy pups.  The male pup has a family waiting and now it is Tostada’s turn to find hers.   She is a playful little girl that loves to cuddle.  She is black with a few tan spots and a sweet personality.  She was born April 1st, 2012 but she is no fool……she’s a MexPup.

Carol had decided it was time to get a dog, and she had made the choice to adopt a rescue. Carol had actually spent time and lived in Mexico, so when she discovered Mexpup and found Tostado’s story, it really hit close to
home for her. Tostado came home with Carol and it took her about 24 hours to blend in with her new family.  Tostado is the only pup in this family, but that’s ok with her because that means more attention for her!  Tostado is great with the kids, and even has a little competition for morning cuddles- she sits on the bed and nuzzles her way through the children to Carol for cuddles. Tostado is very attentive and loves her new Canadian life.  Tostado enjoys her walks on the beach, but most of all, Tostado loves spending time with her family.

Eva: Adopted! August 12, 2012.

Picture
You open your front door and find a puppy tied to it.  The good news is the puppy looks ok, the bad news is you have no space for another dog.  Because of who you are there is no choice, the puppy is brought into your home.  Calls are made, emails are sent, you need help and ask everyone you can to come to your aide.  This is what happened with little Eva.  She was approximately 2.5 months old when she was abandoned.  Just a young pup, what had she done to deserve this?  Why hadn’t someone taken the time to spay the mother dog?  Why is that so unthinkable, yet abandoning a pup something that is acceptable?  We are grateful that Claudia came to the rescue and accepted this little one into her home.  At about 2.5 months old, Eva weighed 5.8 kilos.  She is a happy, sweet, outgoing puppy, who has befriended big and small dogs alike.  Eva is a favorite of the children in the neighborhood.  She is very smart and is already doing well with recall, walking on a leash and general obedience skills.  We estimate that she will be a medium sized dog.  She is ready for a family of her own and can’t wait for someone to say she is theirs.

Eva found a lovely home on Vancouver Island with Chris,  Erin and their two kids. Lucky for Eva, Erin’s cousin was the one fostering Eva, and when they came to visit  they just fell for her. Eva has settled in really nicely, and has made herself right at home. She sleeps upside down with her legs all sprawled out, and runs around in the backyard so quickly she could make you dizzy! She has a fur sibling (a cat named Marty) for company. Eva gets compliments everwhere she goes, because she's such a looker! Chris said that Eva’s going to start obedience classes soon,  and there is no doubt that Eva will catch on as quick because she's smart as a whip- she is after all part whippet.

Luca: Adopted! August 11, 2012

Picture
Tere had seen Luca a number of times eating from a garbage pile in an area where stray dogs tend to gather.  She discovered that the dog was sleeping outside of the house of some squatters who told her she had given birth to 8 puppies.  Working together with some of the neighbors & a local vet, they were able to get 4 removed, cared for & adopted.  When they returned for the others, 2 had been given away and the people weren’t certain what they wanted to do with the remaining 2.  Tere returned several times and after numerous conversations, she paid a bit of money and got the final 2 pups into care.  During all these visits, they kept mentioning that she should take the mother away and when she got the final 2 puppies, she did just that!  When Luca arrived in foster care she looked sad, melancholy, and yet full of hope.  She is 2 to 3 years old and weighs about 15 kilos.  She has slowly gained some confident and now is smiling.  We are excited to watch her journey from sad stray dog to loved family member.  Are you ready to welcome her into your home so that she can continue on this road to a good life?

Gerhard was struggling with a personal loss of someone very dear, and very close to him.  A colleague suggested getting a dog. Gerhard was warming up to the idea, and started a search on the internet. At the time he wasn’t sure if this was going to ease the loss he felt in his heart that he wanted believed- but as the saying goes, you can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need. That is exactly what happened: He found a picture of Luca and read her story and he just knew she was the one. They say our experiences in life are what draws us together, no one can say for sure, but Luca and Gerhard were meant to be with each other- regardless of what forces of the universe caused them to collide. Luca had had a tough life, at times she didn’t have food, hope, or knew what love is. Thanks to Gerhard, her new life includes treats, walks, affection-even play sessions with the neighbours’ lab, Jerma; but most importantly her new life includes unconditional love.

Jonas: Adopted!  August 10, 2012

Picture
How do you make the decision to abandon a dog?  I would guess it’s no surprise that I am not really sure how someone could do that.  There is an animal that loves you and depends on you for care & survival.  One day you go to a place where you know animal people hang out, you tie up your dog and you walk away.  Some might say that the people were kind because they picked a place to give the animal a chance at a future, but I’m not sure I can give credit to someone that walks away and leaves their pet to an unknown fate.  That is the story of Jonas.  He was simply abandoned.  It is hard to understand why such a cute, friendly, playful, sweet and obedient pup was dumped, but it happens way too often.  The great news is that he was found, rescued, cared for and has been getting lots of love at the SPCA sanctuary in PV.  He is approximately 2 years old and weighs 12 kilos.  He is very good with other dogs and is simply a great guy.  We are hoping to find him a wonderful home where he will become a valued member of the family.  Look at that face, look at those ears, don’t you just want to take him home!

David and Dianna adopted Jonas after they heard about Mexpup online. Jonas is an early riser, and his first order of business each morning  is to wake everyone up with a big wet kiss- which is better than any alarm clock! Jonas is very fond of children, and lucky for him, he’s got a few to play with! Jonas loves going for walks- especially for walks on the beach! He is also a fan of napping, and eating of course.  Jonas is settling into his new home, and has spare no time doing so. His true colours have  really shined! He is loved by all that have met him, and he gives love right back. Jonas is loving his new life, and his family are loving him. He will finally get to know true love, and stabilit thanks to two people who opened their hearts and gave Jonas a chance.

Thor: Adopted! August 8, 2012

Picture
Thor was brought to the vet by his “owner”.  He was very sick and in poor physical condition.  When the owner was contacted about the improving health of his dog, he decided he didn’t want to pay the bill and wouldn’t be coming back to get him.  I guess the good news is that he didn’t just leave him to die at home and now this pup has a chance at a great life (but boy are irresponsible people frustrating!).  It seems like he was the runt of the litter from a backyard breeder.  Thor’s story is one of many sad stories brought about by dog breeding.  We were at Dr. Pena’s clinic with Pink when they asked us if Thor could become a MexPup.  They do so much for dogs in need and for MexPup that we had to say yes to them and this adorable little pup.  Thor appears to be a Belgian Malinoise and at about 3 months old he is a healthy growing boy.  We expect him to be a medium/large dog as an adult.  He is very active, very social and very eager to please.  MexPup doesn’t get purebred (or very close to it) puppies, so this is a special treat – we have a pretty good idea what he will look like when he grows up.  We just take them in as we can and accept them as they are – even the purebreds.

Thor was adopted by Nancy and her family on Vancouver Island. Thor is very lucky to have such a great family, and they feel lucky to have such a great dog. Nancy is highly experienced with dogs, and there is no question that Thor will get the best care possible. He will get to experience the great outdoors of Sooke, and get to live life to the max. Thor will get to experience a life with a family that will stick with him through thick and thin, a concept he's never encountered before. Welcome Thor to the first day of the rest of your life!

Ellie: (formerly Chrissy) Adopted! August 5, 2012

Picture
Chrissy was pulled from the high kill shelter in Puerto Vallarta by the SPCA just before they closed for Semana Santa (Easter Week).  If she had not been taken that day, she would have been killed the following day.  Thankfully, this wonderful group took her in, and gave her the care and attention that she needed.  She is almost 1.5 years old and weighs about 12 kilos.  She is a sweet girl that gets along well with other dogs.  She prefers it when they aren’t too hyper (don’t we all ;-).  Chrissy has done well with all the volunteers that have visited with her at the sanctuary, adults and children alike.  She is a very obedient girl and is quite playful.  She has become a MexPup and will be flying to BC to find her new home.  She escaped death and is now on the way to the promise land.  Please help by sharing her album so that she can find a family to call her own.

Ellie was adopted by a wonderful home on Vancouver Island! Ashley said her and Mark were looking for a dog for quite some time, and they knew
they wanted to adopted a dog in need of a home. Ashley heard about Mexpup through a friend who ‘liked’ out webpage and started following the lives of all the rescues. They fell in love with Ellie’s story, and when they saw her pictures, it sealed the deal! Ellie has settled into her new home
very well, and is living life to the max! She enjoys her beach walks, but she prefers warmer water for swimming. Ellie has already experienced true Canadian living- she’s gone on hikes and has gone camping already. She’s as happy as a clam- or should I say, as a rescued dog who’s found where she
belongs...

Pedro: Adopted July 31, 2012

Picture
Pedro started off in Mexico like many of the other Mexpups, and was nursed to healthy through kind and caring individuals. He was adopted by
a wonderful family that was visiting Vallarta.  They immediately saw what a special guy he was and started keeping track of his progress.  He even got invited to their home for a dinner party.  After getting to know him, they knew he would be the perfect addition to their extended family. Unfortunately, there was an unexpected change in the families heath and circumstances became very difficult to provide Pedro with the same standard of care they were able to give him before the accident. They made the very difficult choice to contact Mexpup and tell them the bad news that they could no longer keep their beloved Pedro. Even though this was very difficult and sad news, there was something good around the corner for pedro- a light at the end of the tunnel.

After...

Picture
Marie tragically lost one of her beloved dogs, and decided the next dog she had would be a rescue- a Mexican rescue. She had been searching for a
dog for over a year, and was looking for a larger dog. She was checking websites
daily, and as luck would have it, she found Mexpup and found Pedro. When she met Pedro, Pedro was afraid as he did not understand his situation and why he was moved from his home. He slowly came out of his shell and warmed up to Marie. Pedro loves being outside, and is the easiest dog to discipline because he sits down and looks at you for direction. He’s a very attentive boy, and follows Marie everywhere she goes- even when she’s doing chores in the barn! He is doing well with all the other animals (even the big barn animals). Pedro does have a fur-sibling, (a Schnauzer ) and they keep each other company. Pedro unfortunate did have to make a third start, but they say third time is the charm.

Lola (formerly Stella): Adopted! July 27, 2012

Picture
Two small puppies were abandoned on the side of the road.  At about 1 month of age, these litter mates had little chance for survival.  Thankfully, they hadn't been there too long when they were spotted, scooped up and in care.  They were taken to the SPCA sanctuary which is a wonderful place full of love and they provide great care to the animals.  We are so grateful for all the work they do and are so happy that our groups work so well together for the best interests of animals.  When we had a flight without a small dog ready to fly, they asked us to take Stella.  We are so happy that Stella is now a MexPup, in a foster home in BC and will soon find her forever home.  She is about 4 months old now and weighed 5.2 kilos at 3 months.  She will likely be on the medium to large dog when she grows up.  She is very sweet, cuddly and all puppy!!!

Freya was looking on Kijiji and saw an add for Lola. She fell right in love with her story, and wanted the opportunity to have the whole puppy
experience. Freya knew right away that Stella was her girl when she went to meet here- it was puppy love! Even though Stella was a tiny timid pup, she gave Freya a glimpse at her huge Personality!  Lola is an only child, but she has 3 close cousins: Thor, a giant Golden Doodle, Blue a rescue from L.A, and Milos a French Bulldog.  Lola is bundle of joy, and loves ice cubes especially on a hot day! She also enjoys playing with a soccer ball in the back yard, having play dates with her friends, eating flip flops, going to the beach/lake and working on her swimming!  Lola also loves her down time napping, sleeping and TONS of belly rubs! She has her nutty moments as any puppy does, but Freya just loves her to bits! She gets so many compliments everywhere she goes!

Eddie Munster: Adopted! July 22, 2012

Picture
Eddie was a "beach" dog.  He was rescued off the beach in Bucerias by a MexPup foster mom.  Tracy was walking down the beach and there was a dog lying in the sand by a restaurant just getting ready to open for the day.  As she approached him, he dove under the table in fear.  So, she sat down and started talking to him and throwing him kibble.  His hunger overcame his fear and he came closer to her.  A waiter at the restaurant came out and Tracy asked if he had an owner.  "No, he has no owner.  He has been out here for a couple of months now.  Some of the tourists give him food but he is getting skinnier".  She explained what MexPup does for the dogs.  The waiter thought rescuing him would be a good idea.  "The tourists are starting to leave and soon no one will feed him".  Eddie was walked on the beach all day and vendors and waiters were approached about an owner.  No owner.  So, Eddie was brought into MexPup care.  Eddie is one of the lucky ones.  He was rescued before he experienced any severe trauma.  We don't know Eddie's story, but we can guess that he was likely a tiny, cute little puppy who.....grew.  Then he was turned out on the street.  Eddie is a very calm, friendly dog with a great personality.

Picture
Bob found Eddie with the help of his sitster. He wanted a family pet, but was having some issues finding the right one that would fit into his life. Thanks to his sister who found Mexpup online, he met Eddie, and just like that- a bond was formed. At the foster home, Eddie came right over to Bob, sat down next to him and didn't like the other dogs approaching Bob. Eddie had made up his mind, he had found his human. Bob and Eddie have been taking it slow, and Eddie has already been enrolled in puppy classes. He's geting special 1 on 1 sessions, and will soon be enrolled in a group class. Eddie was once a beach bum who now has a 4 bedroom house of his own. He makes it a point to use every piece of furnature at least once a day. Eddie also has a rule that if he should go out side- well so should Bob. So during Bobs lunch hour, he comes and lets Eddie out, and the both go and stand in the yard together. Bob really enjoys having Eddie, and feels like its a good fit. By the sounds of it, looks like Eddie already knew that Bob was the right fit to him.

Stria (formerly Lola): Adopted! July 15, 2012

Picture
Jacquelinne is a volunteer for MexPup in BC who was visiting Puerto Vallarta with her husband for a little R&R.   She found herself toting around kibble and feeding various animals on her daily adventures.  Day after day there was one little pup that she saw and fed.  She was a bit skinnier, a bit sadder and seemed at greater risk than the others.  The day that Jacquelinne was leaving, she told Mona the story about Lola with a tear in her eye and from sharing that, a rescue operation was born.  One of the great things about wonderful people like these is that they just do what needs to be done – well, Mona & Brian got the directions of where she spent her time, a few photos of the pup & her description and off they went on a mission to find her.  They found her pretty quickly, asked around the neighborhood and found her home.  They asked the owners about her and they seemed disinterested.  The dog wasn’t allowed in the home & it was just an animal, not really a part of their family.  A deal was struck, $100 pesos changed hands (about $8.50), there was a handshake and Lola was in the car riding to her new life.  The first stop was with the vet, where not only did she get clean (and freed from all the fleas & ticks), but also got tested and started her treatments for both Ehrlichia and Anaplasma.  She is about 2 years old and weighs about 8.5 kilos.  She arrived into her foster home as a very timid little girl hiding in corners and avoiding contact.  We don’t know what happened to her before, but we can certainly guess that it wasn’t good.  The wonderful thing about foster homes is that they can give time and space to the recovering animals, while providing a caring environment to let the animal heal and start trusting again.  She is now out of quarantine and able to socialize with the other dogs.  Between the wonderful humans and the great dogs in this home, we are confident that Lola has all she needs and will find her way to a wonderful forever home full of gentle care and finally, a family to love who loves her back.

Rosemarie can’t quite put her finger on why she picked Lola, but there was just something there; an intangible force that bought these two together- fate.  Lola has settled into her family quite nicely, and has 2 other cats for company. There isn’t anyone who has met Lola who hasn’t fallen in love with her, and her bond with Rosemarie is growing every
day. Rosemarie is becoming a strong pack leader which will help Lola feel more relaxed around bigger dogs, because
Lola loves her walks, and Rosemarie makes sure Lola goes on plenty of walks. Lola’s days of scraps are over as she is on an all raw diet, which she loves, and there is no denying how much she loves her food. Rosemarie was kind enough to open her arms and her heart to Lola, and Lola is now experience what it’s like to be loved back.

Toby: Adopted! July 15, 2012

Picture
A little dog loose on major road is never a good idea.  Some people drive by and think nothing.  Others drive by feeling sorry for the pup, but continue on.   Then there are those that take action.  Thankfully, the day that Toby was running scared on a busy road a caring person saw him.  Thankfully, that day he was not left on his own to battle cars – a fight he would surely have lost.  Thankfully that day, someone decided to make a difference.  They got him off the road and into the care of the SPCA of PV and he eventually became a MexPup.  Toby is about 1 year old and he weighs about 5.3 kilos.  His hair was a bit knotted when he came into care and we are slowly working to get the knots out.  He is a very happy dog and is good with other dogs.  Playing – oh, he loves to play almost as much as he loves to be held.  He is a little cuddle bug that loves people and will make a wonderful addition to a family.

After...

Picture
Toby didn`t have a promising life for the first year, but all that changed when he was rescued and adopted by Peggy and Larry in BC.  Peggy and Larry were visiting their son and daughter in law who just happened to be Mexpup Volunteers, and when they met Toby, they were in love.  Toby is very fortunate that Peggy and Larry have a seasonal property in Yellow Point, and Toby gets to spend time a little closer to nature during the summer months with his family. Peggy and Larry have 8 wonderful grandchildren that Toby is thrilled about spending time with! They keep him busy with play and cuddles. Toby has settled into his family very well, and he loves soft cushy things (like your pillow) and insists that everyone share (your pillow)... Larry says it’s a work in progress.  Toby has come a long way from dodging cars, and now his biggest concern is who`s pillow he sleeps on at night.  Toby enjoys  swimming in the ocean, and camping, and playing with his new family. He is enjoying being part of a family, and wears a smile that just says ``thank you``.

Nova: Adopted! July 8, 2012

Picture
Barbara started to deliver her puppies on February 10, 2012.  There were 13 in the litter.  One died almost immediately, 2 passed away in the first 2 days and then another 2 died around days 10-12.  We are hopeful that the remaining 8 will survive (Maroma, Makoki, Diva, Frida, Nova, Camilla, BamBam and Mozart).  They are a lucky group to have been born in a wonderful foster home where Jenny & Lili did such a great job supporting Barbara and helping the puppies.

Lovely Nova is a special little girl.  As you can see in the photo, she is very helpful around the house.  When she was 1 month old, she weighed 1.6 kilos & we expect her to be similar in size to her mom Barbara that weighs 22 kilos.  She loves her stuffed toys; Angry Birds are her favorite.  If you like Angry Birds and sweet dogs, she may be your perfect match.  She definitely deserves a loving home.

After....

Picture
Nova is living the life and has friends in high places- literally! Her new best friend is Paige, a 5 year old Mastiff. Nova had no issues settling into her new family life, and is famous for her bed-hogging. Stephanie and Mike (Nova’s new parents) are so happy with her- every morning she says “thank you –
thank you for bringing me to Canada” and she greets them lovingly with kisses and cuddles every day. Nova and her family go on daily hikes as there is a wonderful trail in the woods behind her house. Nova’s living like shes always been here - as if its always been this way. That is how we know when something is meant to be - everything just fits.

Big Boy: Adopted! July 7, 2012

Picture
This is the story of a pup that had a home, family and care until one day the family decided to move.  I’m not sure how a family loads up a car and drives away leaving their pet behind, but that is exactly what they did (don’t even get me started with what I’d like to……).  After a day or two, one of their neighbors realized that the dog had been left and thankfully took action.  He scooped him up, went to his vet and asked for help.  He wasn’t able to care for this pup, but wanted to give him a chance.  MexPup got the call, the request to take him in, and we were able to say yes thanks to a wonderful family that offered to join the MexPup network of volunteers.   BigBoy is now in a wonderful foster home full of love and getting all that he needs to prepare for his trip to Canada.  He is approximately 1 year old and is just a little guy, but he has a big personality and does well with everyone.  His foster fur siblings are quite a bit larger and yet, they have settled in together really well.  If you are ready for a little guy that got a lot of love to give, BigBoy might be the right guy for you!

After.....

Picture
Big Boy had a family until he was abandoned by them when they left town.  He became a Mexpup and was kindly fostered by Chuck and Claudia.  Big Boy made an instant connection with them and their other dog.  Little did Big Boy know that his new forever home was right around the corner!  Claudia's sister Laura lives just down the block from her and Chuck, and she instantly fell in love with Big Boy.  Still mourning the loss of her long time pet, Laura wasn't sure if she was ready for a new dog.  However, the more time she spent with Big Boy the more sure she became that he already belonged in her heart, and would fit perfectly in her home.  The adoption process was completed and Big Boy was officially welcomed into his new family.  His foster family is very happy that they still get to enjoy spending time with him.  It is a happy ending for everyone!

Jerry: Adopted! July 7, 2012

Picture
Carolyn had been watching this sweet dog from afar. He seemed to have a wonderful disposition, but no family to love him.  He was surviving on his own using the overhang of a home for protection from the rain (which came often these past few months) and the sun (which is particularily strong this time of year). He was losing weight & spirit and she knew she had to do something - she chose to Make a Difference.  She picked Jerry up off the street, took him to the vet and started him on his road to recovery.  Jerry is a sweet, timid guy.  Based on some of his reactions, I would suspect that he has suffered abuse by humans but I also believe that Jerry wants to trust.  He closed his eyes and relaxed in my arms after a short period of time.  He also busted out his first smile when we gave him a toy - his own green crocodile.

After...

Picture
Jerry was very fortunate to capture the heart of Melissa who was drawn to Jerry by his story and what he had been through. After a tough beginning in Mexico, this sweet boy has made a perfect addition to Melissa’s family and has a wonderful life. He is fortunate enough to have a fur-sister and play mate named Meesha (a three legged miniature pincher terrier). Jerry loves to go on hikes with his family, and has already climbed his first mountain!  Jerry has a whole 5 acres all to himself and LOVES to play with his toys. Jerry also gets to  enjoy the beach- he is so over excited by the smells he brings Melissa crabs in  hopes to contribute to supper that night. Jerry is very happy in his home and it shows. Thanks Melissa for making this sweet boys dream of having a family come true!

Kira: Adopted! July 7, 2012

Picture
Marcella Castellanos found this sweet little girl in Boca and asked some nice people there to foster her while she made arrangements to help.  This little girl is so sweet and loving.  Her PV foster home fell in love with her & has done a wonderful job caring for her, but she now needs a forever family.  She is healthy, vaccinated & spayed.  She is very bonded with Jerry (another MexPup in foster) so we expect she would do well with dogs and kids.  She is a medium size female and will be traveling to Canada soon.  Please help us to find her a family to love and a forever home where she can thrive.

Kira is quite the adventure dog- having a lay-over turned out to be much more than your usual 4 hour wait in the airport. Kira chewed through her crate on the flight from PV to San Francisco. She jumped out of the cargo hold, ran loose on the tarmac and escaped all attempts at capture. A wonderful young woman saw the post for this missing dog
realized that the lost dog looked a lot like one that had been turned into the
shelter where she works. Wonderful volunteer Mona went down to San Francisco and escorted her to Canada to be with her forever family. Kira melted into her family with no trouble at all. She’s got a big bother, Dakota, a Siberian Husky, and they play and play and play... They love to play tag, and the get along so well. Kira is looking forward to some camping trips, and enjoys hiking all
around Victoria with her family. Kira’s new mom Jan was happy to report that
Kira has reached her last stop of her journey.

Patches: Adopted! June 24, 2012

Picture
Hi, I am Patches and I live on the streets. A neighborhood lady got me spayed so I can't get pregnant out here, but I still don't have a home.  MexPup promised they would help me, and I'm now in a foster home and excited I'm finally off the streets, but I'm still looking for my forever family- can you please help MexPup to help me?  I'm not too big, I'm really good with kids, and they tell me that I am so very sweet.  I have been on the streets for a while so we can work together on my manners,  I will try really hard to be the best girl if you will please just give me a chance. his sweet girl is now in a foster home and we are so excited that she is finally off the streets.  She is such a friendly little thing - I'm sure that helped her survive the streets as well as she has.

When we called Patches new family (Helen and Bob) to see how she was doing, Helen told me the most remarkable thing: she said she couldn’t believe it’s only been two weeks, because the way Patches fit perfectly into their family made it feel like it’s been this way forever. Patches is a happy-go lucky dog, the only thing that makes her happier is car rides- yes car rides. She gets so excited by them, and Helen never has to worry about her sneaking out the front door because she only runs as far as the car door and
then sits there patiently waiting with an expression saying “Where are we going?! Where! Where!”Patches is lucky as her new mom and dad work opposite shifts, so there is always some home with her 24/7. Patches has a few curious games she likes to play like, hide under the blanket and snort- and I’ll catch you with my front paws like a cat. The next big thing for Patches is a palace- yes a palace of her dreams. Her family is building a new home on 17 acres of land, and this has already become Patches favourite place on earth. She runs and runs, and just can’t get enough of her new found freedom. Thanks to Helen and Bob for making this sweet girls dreams come true.

Frida: Adopted! June 18, 2012

Frida has lots of personality, just take a look at her photos and it's easy to see why we love this little blondie.   She weighed 1.8 kilos when she was one month old and will likely be a medium to large adult dog (similar to her mom Barbara who weighs 22 kilos).  She is just looking for a place to play & a lap in which to cuddle.

After...

Picture
In many of our adoption stories, the story always begin with "I picked this dog because....” However, this rare and wonderful case was the  complete opposite.  The foster family had decided to bring little Frida to work one day, and Jeremy (a co-worker) decided to help out. Within moments of meeting, it was pretty obvious
that Frida had found her forever family - Frida picked Jeremy! Jeremy felt the connection too, and decided to take Frida home to meet Jeremy’s son Seth, and that helped seal the deal. Frida is already exploring the mountains of BC with her family - she has already conquered Mt. Finlayson and had breath to spare. She’s enjoying the adventure of a life time going camping and hiking and insists of being active, even while at home. She will bring Jeremy all the shoes from the closet one by one as if to say “put these on and let’s GO!”  She’s excellent off leash and never goes far from her family - after all she did pick this family herself and wouldn’t want them to wander off... Frida is home and here to stay!

Vaquita: Adopted! June 17, 2012

Picture
Sometimes people are just thoughtless.  The owners of Vaquita decided that they simply didn’t want her anymore.  They had gotten a new dog & this one now got the attention and care from the family.  They sent Vaquita out of the house and stopped feeding her.  She didn’t leave the neighborhood.  I’m sure she didn’t understand why she was no longer part of the family.  She hadn’t done anything wrong.  She is about 3+ years old had simply had too many litters (4 litters) and they no longer wanted to deal with the puppies.  Why didn’t they just get her spayed?  I will never understand people like this.  Thankfully, a neighbor left food for her, but they were not able to adopt her.  Life on the streets was hard and she was hit by a car.  The good news is that her injuries weren’t major.  The kind neighbor that had been leaving her food got her to a vet and she had a large open wound on her rear leg.  The neighbor asked for help and Angeles said yes.  She got this sweet girl off the street and into a loving foster home.  She is about 18-20 kilos, her wounds are healing well, she will be spayed and we are committed to finding her a wonderful home where she will not simply be discarded.

After...

Picture
Vaquita had been waiting for a home for some time, and was being fostered by a wonderful mexpup Volunteer, Jean. It took some time, but the one day Jean woke up and just couldn’t bear the thought of Vaquita being any other place than where she was right now. Vaquita has a fur sister Daisy, who also has a Mexican heritage. Jean says that Daisy has been thrilled with having a big little sister, but the cat Tibby, is still thinking about it. Jean also has a dog sitting business, so has frequest visitors. Her current visitor right now is former Mexpup, and the two of them constantly want to play chase! They will sneak up on the cat (Tibby) and poke him with their noses so he will get up and run- and oh, what fun that is! But in the end they’re all friends, and hunker down together for a nice
long nap.

Prince ended up in the PV high kill shelter.  We don’t know the how or the why, we just know that he was in a place with lots of disease, too many dogs and limited space – a bad combination for a dog if there ever was one.  The great news is that the SPCA pulled him from the acopio and gave him a second chance.  MexPup had a Guardian Angel ready to travel but no dog small enough to fly in cabin, so Prince became a MexPup.  He is now healthy and ready for his forever family.  His hair is still growing in from the total shave he got when first rescued, but that is just a matter of time.  He is just a little guy, 3.5 kilos, and about 2 years old.  He loves to cuddle, loves people and does really well with other dogs.  If you are thinking about adopting a small dog, you many have found him.  This guy is a treasure and you won’t be disappointed.

Prince went to a wonderful home where he lives with his new mom and dad: Melissa and Peter. Prince is truly that- a prince. The family decided
to keep his name and they went to a pet store to buy him a dog bed, and found a bed shaped like a crown so Melissa said he really is a PRINCE now.  Prince spends his time cuddling on the couch, and Melissa says “He is such a good boy and is so calm, gentle and well-mannered. We feel like we won the lottery for rescue pups!” Prince has a special eating routine in which he likes to take each piece of kibble from his bowl, taking the individual piece to eat on the kitchen rug. We're so thrilled about our little Prince finding such a wonderful family that can give him the life a prince truly deserves.

Mia: Adopted! June 2, 2012

Picture
Mia lived on the streets.  The life of a female dog on the street is predictable as they go into heat about every 6 months and have no place to hide from all the male dogs that pursue them.  Not surprisingly Mia got pregnant.  When it was time to have the pups, she chose the back area of a tire shop in the neighborhood.  I am guessing that these people had been kind to her in the past as she chose it as the place to have her pups, and they took the time to block the area in order keep the pups safe and contained.  A few pleas were made on their behalf, and the SPCA de PV came together with MexPup to save her and her 4 puppies.  They had lived in the tire shop for about 6 weeks and thankfully, were in pretty good shape.  They left the streets and entered a shelter which provided them a safe, clean place to live along with food, water and vet care.  Once the pups were weaned, it was time to help Mia onto the next phase of her life.  She will no longer need to fend for herself on the street, and her days of having two litters of pups per year is over.  It is time that Mia gets to be a dog, with a loving family that will baby her.  She is about 2 years old and weighs around 13 kilos.  She is a caring, sweet girl that loves to please.  We are hopeful that she will grow accustomed to playing with toys, running with joy and simply being part of a family.

Mia was adopted into a wonderful family where she is loved by her new mom Cheryl, and her two kids: Amanda and Ashley. Mia went on vacation with her family to northern Alberta. Mia had a WONDERFUL time and ran free on a farm for a whole week. There were miles and miles of
fields to explore, and she kept the pesky birds up in the trees. She was thehappiest little princess dog on earth. Mia has 2 little sister kitties (truly sisters). Georgie (after curious George) and Prissy (is truly very Prissy). For the first few days Mia believed they may in fact be edible- the second day they have all been sleeping on Cheryls bed together.  Mia definitely has her own personality and her own tastes- the second day in her new home, Mia and the family went to a pet store to buy treats and food.  Cheryl was reading labels and turned around to look at Mia. There she was- sitting ever so pretty with a package of something in her mouth. Cheryl’s initial reaction was to take away the item and put it back- she didn`t even know where the item came from! Then she thought "no, Mia chose this, she must want it." Turns out Mia had chosen a dried piece of a Beef heart, and it lasted less than an hour! Mia is blessed to live only feet from the ocean, and of course Mia LOVES to explore the beaches! She is very, very smart, and is great off leash. Mia didn`t have the best start to life, but she can now live out the rest of her days in happiness, knowing she is loved.

Mozart: Adopted! June 1, 2012

Mozart is the smallest male in the litter weighing in at 1.5 kilos when he turned 1 month old.  He loves his mom, he loves his foster pack and he simply thinks dogs are great.  So do we!  We are excited for him to meet his forever family and can't wait to watch him grow up in a loving home.

Nacho: Adopted! June 1, 2012

Picture
The story begins with Mia, a pregnant street dog. When it was time to have her pups, she chose the back area of a tire shop in the neighborhood. I am guessing that these people had been kind to her in the past as she chose it as the place to have her pups and they took the time to block the area in order keep the pups safe and contained. A few pleas were made on their behalf, and the SPCA de PV came together with MexPup to save Mia and her 4 puppies. They had lived in the tire shop for about 6 weeks (estimated birth was during the first week of February 2012) and thankfully, were in pretty good shape. They left the streets and entered a shelter which provided them a safe, clean place to live along with food, water and vet care (thank you SPCA)!

Nacho is a very gentle puppy and is so cuddly. He is not the alpha of this litter; he simply loves his brothers and sisters, and goes along with the group. He weighed 3.5 kilos when approximately 6 weeks old and 5.95 kilos at 11 weeks. He will likely be a medium to large adult dog. He is a beautiful, little pup and is very friendly.

Picture
Tracey met Nacho on a hike when Nacho was still in foster care. Tracy was walking her dog Blue when Nacho strolled along and stole Tracey’s  heart. Blue, which’s very particular about other dogs, was perfectly content with Nacho. Tracey was amazed by this, and started looking into Mexpup.  She kept thinking about Nacho, and just couldn’t get him off her mind- it was official, the only place Nacho belonged was with her family. Nacho moved in and hasn’t looked back since. He’s a total beach bum, and loves everything there is at the beach- and be constantly brings Tracey prizes like sea weed, crabs shells and barnacles.  He’s got about an acre of yard to run around in, and spends his days sleeping with the kitten and gives lessons in chasing chickens.   Nacho has taken a few lessons from the cat himself, and has managed to squeeze his way though cat doors. He’s a brilliant boy, who’s got a sense of smell like a seasoned RCMP dog- and if you hide his toy, the moment you’re not looking he will find and retrieve. Nacho is able to live out his life happily, and fully now that he’s home, thanks to Tracey who now knows that there is such a thing as love at first sight.

Diva: Adopted! May 27, 2012

Diva is a doll!  This little sweetheart weighed 2.15 kilos when she was one month old and we expect her to be similar in size to her mom (Barbara weighs 22 kgs).  She is doing well in foster care and can't wait to find her very own family.  Every family needs a Diva!

After...

Picture

Jennifer lives in BC with her 2 daughters, which she refers to as her “two little diva’s” so it was only natural that she added a third! Diva arrived at her new home, and was a little shy at first, but she’s really blossomed and come out of her shell now. She’s defiantly a mama’s girl, but has made some friends along the ways as well. She has two fur siblings, and has 2 human siblings as well. She is very well loved and gets along with everyone.

Bella (formerly Flora): Adopted! May 22, 2012

They had lived in the tire shop for about 6 weeks and thankfully, were in pretty good shape.  They left the streets and entered a shelter which provided them a safe, clean place to live along with food, water and vet care (thank you SPCA)!

Flora is a cuddly little pup.  She is a bit of a timid soul, but once she gets to know you, she just wants to crawl into your lap and hang out.  She and Nacho are the black pups of the litter, and they can often be found sleeping together (you can tell her apart by the white mark on her chest).  Flora loves being with other dogs, loves getting belly rubs, and is a happy pup.  They estimate that she was born in the first week of February, 2012.  When she was about 6 weeks old, she weighed 3.15 kilos and at 11 weeks had grown to 6.45 kilos.  We expect her to be a medium to large adult dog who is certain to bring smiles, joy, laughter, and love to those in her life.

Susanna and Cameron had been looking for a dog for some time, but  just had not found the right match until Bella came into their lives. Bella  complimented this wonderful family with her charm, and easy going manner. She’s a people dog who loves to love. Bella has made lots of friends on walks to the beach, and loves running through the woods. She’s not yet a fan of the Vancouver weather, and thinks that Canada forgot to put in their request for a summer- but she is thankful that the ground her is soft so that she can bury all her toys for safe keeping. Bella enjoys going camping and hiking with her new family and is living out the life she never dreamed she’d get to have.

Josie (formerly Jolie): Adopted May 19, 2012

Picture
Stephanie met Jolie during a volunteer day at the PV acopio, a high kill shelter.  She had a bit of mange which needed treatment and made her a less likely adoption candidate.  Stephanie saw something in this little girl, a spark in her eye & was hoping against the odds that she would get adopted.  When she found out that didn’t happen, she took matters into her own hands, pulled the pup from the acopio and got her to a vet for treatment.  She is doing well, getting healthy & enjoying her new life.  This approximately one year old girl is fully grown & weighs about 6 kilos.  She might be a small package, but she has a big personality.  She loves to play, has lots of spunk and will bring laughter to some lucky home.  If you were thinking of bringing a small, energetic, bundle of joy into your family, you need look no further…….Jolie is your girl!

after.....

Picture
Jolie arrived in her second foster home and fit right in.  It didn't take too long for Karen to realize that she was part of the family and wasn't going anywhere!  It took a bit of time for Jolie to get healthy and finish her treatments, but once she was ready, the adoption became official.  We would like to say thank you to Karen, Max and Lucy for opening their home so that Jolie could get healthy and for opening their hearts to allow her to become part of their forever family.

Dixie (formerly Maroma): Adopted! May 15, 2012

Maroma is always playing.  She romps around her foster home & gets into everything.  She is all puppy, all the time.  At one month, she weighed 1.5 kilos (one of the smaller pups of the litter).  We are guessing they will all be around the size of their mom Barbara when they grown up.  She is a great pup and needs a great home.  Can you make that happen for her?

After...

Picture
Dixie became part of Marie’s family in May. She is a mellow easy going pup. She loves to sleep in, and loves to cuddle while doing so. Dixie is
currently learning some basic tricks- like how to make your owner fetch, and fill in the holes in the yard once you dig them up (which is very fun for her). She is a very lucky girl, and is a very conscious healthy eater-she gets an egg  with her breakfast every day (how else is her fur supposed to shine?) She’s very well aware of the importance of eggs and protein, so she lets Marie know if the egg was forgotten. Dixie loves going on long walks, and playing her hew new toys and enjoys the company of her cat sibling, Carlos. Dixie’s also learning to be a sailing pup- as the family enjoys spending their summer on their family sail boat- Dixie is already sporting her new life jacket and will be all ready for a sailing trip when the time comes.

Meeha (formerly Canela): Adopted May 15, 2012

Picture
Broken record….the story is the same.  A family has a dog, they let it loose on the streets, they don’t get her fixed, she goes into heat, and she gets pregnant having babies a few months later.  From the start of the story, you know the end.  The final touch is part that gets me every time……they no longer want the dog as there are now just too many.  Seriously, if you don’t want puppies simply get your dog spayed.  It is better for them, better for you and better for the community.  Sadly, Canela is another victim of this sad story.  The good news is that we already found homes for 2 of her puppies.  Canela and the final pup Pita are now in a wonderful foster home, are no longer covered in fleas & ticks, and are getting healthy.  She is an approximately 1.5 year old beautiful girl.  She weighs about 5 kilos and is simply a love.  She hasn’t had the best life and we are ready to change that for her.

In her own words, Meeha (formerly Canela) wanted to tell the story...
"My new Mom Christine says my name is Spanish for 'baby girl'. I just wanted to say thank you for bringing me to Canada.  My Mom dragged me out shopping today for what she calls 'bling'.  I have a new name tag with a diamond in it.  She said that now that I am a west coast dog I have to wear a rain jacket in the winter so I tried a couple on.  It was very embarrassing but mom couldn't stop gushing about how cute I looked.  It's the same colour as my new leash, collar and name tag. The goggles in the photo are for when we go on motorcycle rides.  Even though I will be in a rigid case to protect me in a crash, she said the goggles are for extra protection. Ever since I arrived my mom won't stop kissing me.  She mumbles things like 'how did I get so lucky' and 'I must have done something in another life that was really good'. She loves how soft, quiet and loving I am.  I don't shed or bark.  I am a good girl in the crate when we are in the car.  I have a second mom named Kat.  She said she will take care of me if ever my mom has to leave overnight for work reasons. I will keep you posted on how I am doing every once in a while. I promise to be a good girl."

                                                                                    Yours woofly,
                                                                                           -Meeha

Makoki is the smallest female in the litter.  At one month, she weighed 1.25 kilos.  She is doing great, growing strong and can't wait to meet her forever family.  We are so thrilled that they opened their home to her.  It will certainly be a happy day when she gets there.

Makoki was adopted by loving parents, Amanda and Chris. Makoki also has 3 other little humans to keep her busy during her puppy years. Her
favourite things to do are suntan, chew on chair legs and eat Tacos- even though she’s now a Canadian, she takes her Mexican heritage very seriously (minus the chair leg eating part). Chris says that whenever there is a Taco bell commercial on, her ears perk right up- and she’s completely in tune with what’s going on.  She’s not a fan of the rain yet, but she’s coming around. They hope to take a long trip this summer to Long Beach, and Makoki is practicing riding in the car- which she loves, and is very  much so looking forward to her first Vacation. There is no question that Makoki  is going to live out an extraordinary life full of fun, excitement and love.

Meika (Suzy): Adopted! May 11, 2012

Picture
There were 7 puppies that were rescued out of a vacant parcel of land on Feb 6th. They had been well hidden by their mama, but were around 2 months old and were starting to venture out on their own. Suzy was found on a sidewalk nearby which tipped off the rescuers.  They knew they were getting warm in the search for the litter of puppies.  Their mom had dug a cave into a pile of dead brush and had done a great job caring for her pups, but living on the streets is harsh and the survival rate of puppies in that environment is low.  The SPCA de PV took in the litter and provided them a place to receive medical care, get healthy, and have a chance at a life.  They did well in the shelter and at 3 months old, Suzy weighed about 7.5 kilos.  We expect her to be a medium to large dog.  She is a sweet girl and loves to cuddle.  She is a curious puppy and loves to explore, but is just as happy snuggling up in your lap.  Suzy is now about 4.5 months old and is ready to find her forever home.

Meika’s family was looking for a pup, and decided to look into adopting instead of buying one. They loved her colouring, and her sweet and cuddly yet active personality. Meika is enjoying her new life here on Vancouver Island, and goes on plenty of hikes, and walks, and enjoys camping with her new family! Meika gets to go pretty much where ever her family goes, and during the day, she gets to visit with grandma & grandpa and gets along
very will with their dogs. Meika’s grown plenty since she’s arrived and has put
on 10lbs and there isn’t any sign of slowing down yet. Meika’s enjoyed her puppy classes, and loves chasing her tail, and hanging out at the baseball diamond and taking in a good game or two.  Meika’s now living life to the max and we can’t wait to see how she turns out!

Frankee, formerly Camilla, is now enjoying the life of a doggy-goddess at her new home with her new family- Megan and Brandon! Frankee goes on multiple walks a day down the galloping goose trail, and has made many friends along the way. She’s still not sure about those pesky skate boards and  bikes, but she’s working on it. Frankee is lucky to have a mom and dad that get to spend so much time with her, and go on adventures like camping and canoeing! She’s even going to get her very own stylish life vest- safety first- her mom knows best.  Frankee is a small girl, but she makes up for it by having friends that can hold their own-literally! Her best friend is a great big 130lbs lab named Riley, and when she’s not busy with Riley, she hangs out with Ottis, a friendly French bull dog. Thanks to Megan and Brandon Frankee now has a new life, new friends, and is living out her happily ever after in her fairy tale.

Trisha and her family had already adopted a Mexpup named Bode in February this year. When Trisha saw Pita on the Mexpup web page, she knew instantly that Pita belonged with their family. Even before Pitap arrived,Trisha had already gone shopping and purchased an entire new wardrobe of pink for her new bundle of joy! There was some alterations in Pita’s flight to Canada, and the anticipation was almost too much to bear! When the flight was finally set- Pita flew all the way across North America, and sailed across the Straight of Georgia and straight into the arms of her new mom and dad.  She is doing wonderfully and loving her new life! Thank you to all who contributed to making this family officially whole.

She is a playful girl; She likes to run, tumble and simply be a puppy.  We believe they were born the first week of February.  She has moments of shy & timed, and loves a good scratch.

She's also lucky enough to have some Mexican amigos to spend time with- Taquito and Emily (Heathers 2 pups)
all share the same large yard and play together endlessly. Missy's new home is happy to say that Missy is a delightful puppy and a happy ball of energy. There is an off leash dog park nearby and Missy loves to run with the dogs and live her new Canadian life with no more fear of what was, she now only knows what is, and gets to look forward to a bright future.

Denise was dealing with the hardships of the recent loss of her beloved dog to cancer. She found herself searching for a companion, and it
occurred to her that she knew a volunteer named Kim who fostered dogs- thankfully for Paco Kim was a Mexpup volunteer. When Denise and Sean saw Paco’s photo something just clicked and they knew right away that they belonged together.  Paco life began in a not so promising setting, but now it just keeps getting better and better! He gets to look forward to camping trips, rides in the 4X4, and summers swimming at a nearby lake.  He’s about to be enrolled in puppy classes, and maybe even some forest agility where he can keep fit – BC style! Paco is a very sweet, affectionate and easy going guy who is now set to live out the rest of his days with Denise and Sean happily ever after.

Amigo: adopted April 22, 2012

Picture
This little guy was found wandering around the markets near Rio Cuale. Thankfully rescuer Jacqueline saw him and got him off the streets. He got a bath  (good-bye to those colonies of ticks & fleas), some good food, a vet check and a great nights sleep.  Wonderful volunteers stepped up to foster him so we can get him healthy for a trip to Canada. He is about 13 pounds, is about 6 years old (or so), does well with other dogs and just needs a family to call his own.

Sandra, who had not had a dog since she was a child, had gone through a very hard time after the passing of her husband. A friend recommended to her that she entertain the idea of getting a dog, and her daughter loved the idea of it as well.  They picked Amigo because he’s such a uniquely handsome boy with a very distinctive one ear up, and one ear down look. When they arrived to meet him, they kew that Amigo was their “amigo”! He came home with them that day and has since brought joy and laughter to their lives.  Amigo is now enjoying leisurely walks in the parks and he especially loves snoozing on the couch.  It’s his first time in a forever home, and although he will always remember what was, he is so glad about what is thanks to Sandra and her daughter.

Jordi (formerly Lazy): Adopted April 22, 2012

Picture
One day a cute puppy was given as a gift to a family.  They hadn't asked for this present, but it was given just the same.  The cute puppy grew and grew as puppies will do.  Sadly, the family hadn't really wanted a dog and once the puppy was grown, they decided they didn't want him anymore.  That was it – simple.  They knew their neighbor helped dogs and so they asked for her help.  They gave Angeles one week to get the dog out of their home or they were going to take it to the acopio…..this was no joke, as the acopio is full of disease and many dogs don’t make it out alive.  Photos were taken, emails were sent, pleas were made, and Lazy became a MexPup.  We didn't wait for him to be dumped at the local high kill shelter; we were thankfully able to prevent that from happening.  He is now in foster care, is getting healthy and will soon be ready to find a real family.  Help us find him a family that will love him forever and will not discard him when he is not the new, shiny toy.  He has become a beautiful approximately 1.5 year old cocker spaniel that weighs about 12 kilos.  He would really like to have a family that loves him, wants him and won’t give him up because they get tired of him.  Could you be that family?

Flip (formerly Chino): Adopted April 20, 2012

Picture
Sometimes writing the story about a dog is easy, maybe sad or heartbreaking, but there is always information to provide.  What makes me sad about Chino’s story is that there isn’t much to say.  He had a past.  He lived in a neighborhood and they said he was the brother to Canela, but no one really claimed him.  The family that was the owners of Canela appeared to be the owners of Chino also, but they wouldn’t really say he was theirs.  He was just the dog that was around.  He was just the dog that was there and hung out with Canela, maybe got food & water when she did, but even though he was there, he was simply no one’s dog.  When the family decided they didn’t want Canela, Chino was out on his own.  Well, we believe that he deserves more!  He is an approximately 1.5 year old loving guy.  Did I say he is LOVING, yep, he is simply a dog that wants to please.  He weighs about 8-9 kilos, gets along well with everyone.

interest in Mexpup and Pauline just happened to be heading to the airport that evening to pick up Flip (formerly Chino).  Well, the following morning the two met and fell in love!  Flip now has a great new Mom and Dad and two feline siblings to play with.  He has a huge safe yard to romp in and will be sure to drop in on his fur foster Alfi who welcomed him to Canada and now will be his permanent fur cousin!

Goldie Luck: Adopted April 19, 2012

Picture
Goldie Luck was first seen by Nicole Martin at the stadium. She saw her horrific skin while the poor pup was cowering behind a basketball court and her heart broke. She tried to catch her but the pup wasn't ready to be caught and simply ran away disappearing after 5 blocks of cat & mouse.  12 days of searching later, Nicole successfully lured her with cat kibble, and sporting her new collar and leash, Goldie jumped into the back of Nicole's car.  Goldie has
treatable mange which requires a variety of treatments....the most important
being LOVE.  Thankfully, she has a wonderful foster family & Nicole/Regis
have been on a full time mission to make sure that all her needs & treatments are handled. Goldie has all traces of severe street abuse and at first was scared of any noise and men, especially those in uniform. This 1.5 year old 50 lbs girl is recovering nicely and walks beautifully on the leash.  She loves to kiss, give hugs and thinks she is still a puppy.

I don’t think rescuers really knew that when they decided to give Goldie her name “Goldie Luck” they wouldn’t be kidding. Goldie luck has brought good fortune to everyone she’s crossed paths with, but new owners Jan and Tom say that they’re the lucky ones to have gotten Goldie. Goldie hasn’t just fit into the new family, she’s melted and blended in as one of them, no assimilation necessary. Goldie has roam over her 1 acre yard, and access to 26 more any day of the week.  Goldie has 1 fur sibling named Sarah, who was also a rescue dog. Goldie knows she’s with her forever family, and no matter what the obstacle - Goldie will overcome it to be with them, and they would do the same for her. There is no question that Goldie is exactly where she belongs, and it comes right down to her registration tag – 777. This family has really won the jackpot!

Cortes (formerly Captain Morgan): Adopted April 15, 2012

Picture
Stephanie was in PV on vacation and had joined the weekly group of volunteers that clean kennels, walk/wash/socialize the animals at the acopio.  She was disheartened when she saw a sad, skinny, sick Chihuahua that had just had a partial amputation of a rear leg.  He was alone, recovering in a cardboard box.  The vet at the acopio had done the surgery, but didn’t have medicine to help with recovery or protect against infection.  The risk to this pup was huge and his chances of recovery in that setting were minimal.  Not surprising that this animal lover said enough, got the pup out, got him to a vet, got the meds he needed and put him on the road to a new life.  Captain Morgan is a one year old, three legged Chihuahua that weighs about 4 kilos.  He is in a wonderful foster home getting healthy, having fun & celebrating life.  He needed another operation as they did a mid-bone amputation & we needed to do better for him than that.  The surgery went well, he is now is recovery and the vet has given him a great prognosis.  He has already met his forever family, so as soon as he recovered from surgery & healthy, he will go live with them in Ontario.  We are thrilled for everyone and are so thankful for the chance meeting that changed this pup’s life forever.

Picture
Cortes arrived at his new home and didn’t miss a beat.  He had spent time with his new family in Vallarta, so there were no big surprises there.  He did meet his fur siblings for the first time and reacted just as we would expect from this spunky pup – he jumped right in, greeted everyone and wanted to play.  He is in constant motion and is bringing smiles & laughter to everyone in his home.  He is one happy & joyful pup that is now exactly where he is supposed to be: with a family that loves him just the way he is.

Holly: adopted April 14, 2012

Picture
Holly and her sister Molly were found one evening on the street. They were only about 6-8 weeks old and were lone. Puppies are not prepared to survive on the street. Their immune systems are not developed & their size makes them constantly vulneralbe.  They were picked up by Lydia and taken to the vets office. Dr. Paco told us their chances at survival were very low.  We took them home, gave them love, treated the most basic & dangerous of their problems, and waited.  Each day they survived brought greater hope and then one day we knew they woud make it.  That was a great day.  They still have some issues and need to get fully healthy & vaccinated, but that will come with time.

After...

Picture
Holly was adopted by a wonderful family in Vancouver, BC.  The family had recently lost their beloved pet a few months prior, and Holly was just the Joy that needed to come into their lives. Holly was given a 30% shot at life, and she took those odds and beat them. Now she’s living life to the max, and loves going out for car rides, and walks, and enjoys the company of a Great Dane Mix named Tubbles. Tubbles and Holly are also enrolled in puppy classes together, so we know they will grow up being great friends, and can secretly plan how to get those delicious shoes out of the front closet and into their mouths... There is no doubt that Holly will go on to live a very fulfilling life thanks to this wonderful family who opened up their hearts to this wonderful girl.

Loki (formerly Tito): Adopted April 14, 2012

Picture
Andres was working when he first saw Tito.  There wasn’t anything he could do at that moment to help the skinny, grungy pup.  He drove anyway knowing that he would be back to Tuito, a town south of PV, to try and help.  That Saturday, he and his wife Michelle set out on the mission – rescue Tito.  They found him where Andres had last seen him, lying around the main plaza.  This smart dog saw this lovely couple and simply knew they were there to help him.  As they walked over, he got up and went straight up to them. They opened the door & he was more than happy to get right into the car. A few kibble for comfort and off they went to the vets office.  Tito had some medical issues, but everything was treated. This approximately 6 year old pup loves to cuddle, has lots of spirit and a calm energy.  He is about 20 kilos, gets along really well with the other dogs in his foster home and has adapted to his new life with ease.

After...

Picture
When Loki was rescued, he jumped into the car oblivious to the fact he was riding towards a better life. Maria and Stephan were his final destination, and it’s been nothing but blue skies for Loki ever since. Despite being named after the Greek God of Mischief, Loki demonstrates nothing but gentleman like manners and is the sweetest, most loveable dog there is. Loki is also very bright, he’s now figured out how to get a personal concierge elevator service lift into the car each morning, but let’s be honest here, who in their right mind would turn that down?  Loki gets to go to work with his mom every day and while he is there, he’s pampered with rejuvenating daily spa treatments,  gets to play and mingle with the other staff dogs, and when he is all done his exciting day at the office, he goes on a nice run or walk down a beautiful trail with his mom.  At the end of the day Loki curls up on a nice soft bed, and falls asleep knowing he’s safe and sound. Thanks to Maria and Stephan, Loki will never have to do without the simple pleasures in life, but most of all, he will never have to experience loneliness, and suffering ever again.

Mambo: adopted April 13, 2012

Picture
Mambo was on the streets when he was found.  We don't know how he got there, but we do know this one year old pup had a home at some point.  Sadly, when Marcella found him, he was extremely ill.  His physical appearance was poor, but the real problem was in his blood - he was covered in fleas & ticks & not surprisingly had very bad case of Ehrlicha.  He was very close to not making it, but Marcella never gave up and helped this guy turn the corner.  He is still in treatment, making progress each day and is doing really well.  He weighs about 10 kilos but still needs to gain some weight.  He loves to play, loves people, is very social and is a great pup.  Dogs make wonderful additions to our lives.......could this one be the perfect addition to your family?

After....

Picture
There came a point when Mambo had turned the corner with his medical struggles and we were confident that he would survive.  We were so excited for him and couldn’t wait for him to find his forever family.  Sometime during this process, Marcella realized this little guy had already stolen her heart.  It became clear that he had already become a part of her family and the thought of him leaving was simply too much.  We are thrilled that Mambo is happy, healthy and has a wonderful family; wonderful happy ending for a wonderfully delightful pup.

Sasha: adopted April 8, 2012

Picture
Sasha was rescued from a BC shelter when she was about 1yr by a couple in
Sidney. She lived with her family for 6 great years, but unfortunately, the wife
passed away and then last December the husband passed away. The son took care of Sasha as best he could but he realized that he was not able to provide the financial care and attention that she needed. He knew that she deserved a better life. She was overweight (10 to 15lbs), was way behind in her vaccines and was also was in pain. Mexpup got word of Sasha and stepped in to help. We had her vaccines done, teeth cleaned, her long nails trimmed, and had her leg x-rayed to determine to source of her pain. She has a bit of arthritis in her back left knee and is currently on Glucosimine and has responded really well- no more limping! However, since arthritis is a part of aging, she will require glucosimine for the rest of her life. Sasha is a sweet, gentle, loving and mellow girl that just wants a family to call her own. She enjoys spending quality time with her humans, and is great with children. She is spayed, and is great with other dogs (of all sizes) people, and cats. We currently have her on a diet and exercise program to help her regain her girlish figure.

After...

Picture
It didn’t take very long for Mike to seek out this sweet girl. There were many other pups who were available for adoption, but Mike knew that Sasha was meant to be a part of his family- and he was 110% committed to this girl. No matter what hurdles would be thrown in their way, Mike and Sasha would overcome these obstacles-together.  I don’t think that Sasha could have ended up in a better place after the sad death of her previous family.  Sasha is doing well in her new home, and is received extraordinary amounts of love and attention from her new family.  We are so happy for Sasha, and thankful for Mike for having such a big heart and a place in it for this wonderful girl.

Molly Brown: adopted April 8, 2012

Picture
Molly & her sister Holly were found one evening on the street.  They were only about 6-8 weeks old and were alone. These little girls will eventually need a home.....I promise if you open your heart to them, they will fill it (they have mine!).

After...

Picture
They say that everything happens for a reason, and what can be seen as a disappointment can really a blessing in disguise. Molly came to meet a potential forever family but it was just not the right fit, and nor was the first foster home she went into. What Mexpup viewed as a calamity was really just fate trying to get Molly to her rightful home, her forever home. With Easter on the brink many foster families were simply unavailable, but as fate would have it, Carmen and Vincent were available, and they had room for Molly.  Within a day, we got a call to say Molly wasn’t going anywhere, she was already home.  It was a foster failure in its finest hour! They had fallen head over heels for Molly. Molly now enjoys a safe, fully fenced backyard, and the attention of Carmen, Vincent, and their 2 kids. Molly has come a long way from the once slim odds of surviving, and will get to live out her days being loved by a wonderful family. The next time something doesn’t turn up in your favour, don’t assume it’s for the worst... Just ask Molly.

Chili Bean (formerly Chloe): adopted April 6, 2012

Picture
Chili Bean (formerly Chloe) was rescued from the local high-kill shelter in early January along with her "cellmate" Maggy. The dogs
were huddled together - thin, wet, and cold. They were both shivering with fear and anxiety. Brian and Mona couldn't stand it so with support from fellow volunteers Randy and Georgene took her away from the shelter, and into a warm, loving foster home. She is a lovely girl approximately 2 years old and about 11 kilos.  She has a beautiful coat with "feathers" and is likely a collie mix. Chili Bean is extremely smart and will make a wonderful companion.  She is young and very active, but also loves to be cuddled on your lap.  She is house trained, sits on command, and enjoys sleeps in her kennel at night. She walks well on the leash with a confident leader.  She will also bark at motorcycles, trucks, and bicycles probably out of fear, but she will restrain herself if you warn her in advance and tell her not to bark.  We suspect that she was repeatedly hit with some kind of object, as she is terrified of the “chuck-it” and will literally cower in the smallest corner available when she sees it.  Despite the minor issues commonly found in rescued animals, Chili Bean is a darling and we are confident that she will become a loyal and obedient companion for an individual who is patient, consistent, and gentle with her.

After...

Picture
Chili Bean had a very rough start in Mexico, and then had a tough time recovering from her spay operation at the pound. Despite this, she shined through all of it, and was a happy and eager pup desperate to learn and observed everything she could. She was amazed by treats, squeaky toys, but most of all she didn't have to steal to eat.  Mike and Lynne. spent lots of time in Mexico and know the sad story of stray dogs all to well. They saw Chili Bean and knew that she was the right fit for their family. This fantastic couple have given Chilli Bean a forever home, something that for other pups is just a dream. Thank you for making this Mexpup dream come true.

Lola (formerly Gordis): Adopted April 3, 2012

Picture
Security dogs – we all have an image of what a security dog looks like.  Well,
Angeles had seen 3 small dogs living on a property for some time.  Their only
shelter was a vehicle parked on the empty lot.  They most often didn’t have food or water.  The owner of the property was tracked down, and everntually gave them up. Lola was 8 months old, and FULL of energy. She was bit of a rascal, getting into everything and having a ball while doing so.  She is sure to bring a smile and a laugh to her new family,

After...

Picture
Susan and her family adopted Lola, and Lola hasn’t looked back since.  Lola didn’t even have to leave her native tongue behind, as Spangligh is the normal conversation in her new home. Ivan is Lola’s fur-brother, and also new best friend.  The two of them tumble over each other and chase one another around, and he teases her with all the toys he has stolen and sleeps in her bed, but she thinks it’s great, because it’s the perfect excuse to sleep on the sofa. She’s starting to figure out how to officially play with toys, but Ivan's showing her just how much fun having these toys are, by stealing them, and she has to reclaims her missing toys one by one. Lola is very dedicated and loyal pup, never leaving Susan’s side.  She’s a perfect fit for this new family, and they’re a perfect fit for her. She’s come a long way from a shelter less, carless home. She can now indulge in the good of life thanks to Susan and her family.

Melia (formerly Theodora): Adopted April 1, 2012

Picture
Theodora was living on the streets in Tuito, a small town outside of Vallarta.  This 5 month old puppy had to depend on the kindness of strangers and was lucky to be alive.  Gail & Sue saw her near the bus stop, skinny, full of fleas and ticks, eating dust and simply couldn’t leave her.  They knew that her luck could run out at any time, so they scooped her up and brought her home.  She had wonderful care at the vet’s office and is now in a foster home.  She is a doll with lots of energy.  She has a wonderful personality, gets along with everyone she meets and just loves being loved.

After...

Picture
When it came to picking a pup, Shauna and her boyfriend had completely different ideas of what they were looking. Surprisingly, along came Melia and she was the perfect combination that they were both looking for in an neat package- and plus who can resist her ears!! Melia settled right into her family, and she loves being here.  She enjoys walks, and running through the parks and living life to the max. She’s excited to meet and greet anyone passing her, and loves everyone and everything. Her favourite game is fetch, and she thinks that running and playing with her humans is just great. Melia has a bright future ahead of her, thanks to her rescuers and her new family who have opened their hearts and their homes to this lucky girl.

Looney: Adopted March 28, 2012

Picture
Looney had a sad life.  She lived on a terrace with her brother day & night, and they often were left without food or water.  At about 6 months old, it was early in what was promising to be a dismal life.  More often than not, they did not have the basic necessities and things that make a life llivable like love, companionship, caring, and security. These simple things were not a part of their life and didn’t seem to be a part of their future.  Well, that all changed one day. Rescuer Tere saw them and started talking to the owner and after several weeks of convincing, the owner finally gave them up. Looney is a sweet, alm and happy girl. (You would be happy too if you got pulled from a miserable home).

After...

Picture
After recovering in foster care, Looney caught the attention of her new family.  Looney now has all the love and care in the world, and has a few other small dogs as siblings including another Chihuahua! Looney will never spend another moment alone, as her new dad works from home, and she even enjoys family vacations- when Looney’s new family go away on holiday’s the dog’s go too!  Super family and super home!

Luna: adopted March 28, 2012

Picture
Luna had a horrible life.  No one cared for her although they did like to let her have puppies.  Even then, they wouldn’t give her enough food to be healthy during her pregnancies – sometimes I really don’t like people very much.  In stepped some wonderful people that started feeding her, caring for her and letting her know what love was all about.  They were finally able to secure her release and we couldn’t be happier.  She is 20 inches (50 cm) tall, a medium size dog, and is now in a foster home & getting the love and attention she deserves.  She will need a wonderful family to make the story complete, but for now we can all celebrate that Luna is going to have a much better life.

after.....

Picture
Seems that Luna’s unlucky streak is behind her!  Those days are over and her lucky days began when she was rescued by Carmen & Claudia, then she was fostered by Candace, and now she has been adopted by Cory……..I would say that is a trifecta of GREAT.  She now lives in a family with 2 fur siblings, has open land to roam and has a family that really cares about her.  Now that is something to celebrate!

Blanca Fancy Pants: adopted, March 25, 2012

Picture
Rescuer Stephanie was taking her final trip to the acopio during her vacation to walk, clean and love some pooches!  Upon arrival she noticed a young white dog that had recently had puppies.  She was all smiles but clearly confused & wondering how the heck she ended up in jail?  Her family brought her here, so surely they were coming back, weren’t they?  “My family is coming back to get me” is what was written all over her face!  Sadly... everyone there knew the answer was no. When she was taken from her cell to go for short walks in the compound and Steph saw, everyone saw, the burns on her back. This was no accident… these were intentional... and not the first time we have seen such a horrendous act.  The staff was told her name was Blanca, and that her family had moved and rather than taking her.  They had chosen to drop her off.  We often wonder what is worse for these babies... never having a home, or knowing one and then knowing that sick feeling of being abandoned?   Well, she stole Stephanie’s  heart with her courageous spirit, her smile and her undeniable 'I will love you forever' energy!   After a brief discussion with a friend, she decided to take Blanca that day.  Everyone agreed that she wouldn’t have much of a chance of adoption at the acopio because of her noticeable scars and lopped tail, but she clearly deserves just that, a family to love.  She is a bit over a year old, weighs about 10 kilos and is a great girl who is simply happy to be  breathing!

After...

Picture
It's always amazing how intuitive dogs are. Blanca was taking a nap when her forever family came to knock on the foster family’s home. Blanca walked right out the door greeted the family as if to say “I have been waiting- I knew you’d come for me.” After an introductory walk, Karen asked her young son Xander what he thought of the Blanca, and despite the distractions of 2 other dogs in the space, Xander confidently placed his hand on Blanca and said “I want to bring this one home!” and he meant business! Blanca moved in and within 30 seconds made herself right at home, and hasn’t looked back since. She enjoys morning cuddles over steeping tea, and especially loves her boy Xander. Blanca makes sure to keep him safe all through the night.  In Mexico, Blanca was seen as the dog with the ghastly scar on her back and a lopped tail, but to her family, they don’t see the scar, they don’t see the lack of tail, they just see beautiful Blanca for who she really is, and will love her unconditionally for the rest of her days. What more could any pup ask for?

Mijo (formerly Guerrero): adopted March 24, 2012

Picture
Guerrero was discovered at the Acopio on one of the Tuesday volunteer expeditions. He was alone, small, scared and worst of all, badly burned. he was just a wee pup when rescuer livia spotted him in his celll. After examining him, there was no question he could not stay there. He was taken straight to the vets office where the initial questions of the burns were confirmed - they appear to have been deliberate... most likely boiling hot oil or acid. He also tested positive for distemper which was curious because he did not show any symptoms of this deadly disease. It was concluded that he should receive treatment for distemper because he was actually in somewhat good health for a pup. After receiving vaccinations and starting on a very healthy nutritious diet, his health improved and he started to grow into a loving, beautiful strong pup! He never did develop any symptoms for distemper and the vet determined that he was a carrier rather than a host for this terrible disease! After three rounds of vaccinations, he was tested again for distemper and finally came back negative! He resided at the Purr Project for several months (a big thanks to them), he is now 6 months old, weighs about 8.5 kilos and is comfortable around people and kitties alike!

Picture
The name Mijo is a spanish term of endearment and a shortened form of
"mi hijo" means "my son" and to new mom's Carmelle and Shannon that's just how they see Mijo- a 100% part of the family. Mijo can look forward to endless days of tug-of-war with big broker Tucker, car rides, but most important, love for the rest of his life. Mijo now happily resides in his forever home, with his forever family. He's come a long way from a high kill shelter, and we're so happy to have been a part of his Journey.

Looffa (formerly Angie): adopted March 21, 2012

Picture
Angie was found running loose along a very busy street.  She was scared, full of fleas/tics, skinny and out of place.  Angels saw her and simply couldn’t leave
her to fend for herself.  First stop was the vets for a bath & shaving off all her hair (it was simply too matted & infested to do anything else).  Next stop was to contact MexPup and ask for help.  Since that first day, she has been in a home with food, shelter and most importantly, love.  She has been gaining weight and confidence which has been a delight to see.  This 10 month old Schnauzer mix enjoys playing with other dogs & has a wonderful loving, cuddly personality.  Belly rubs are in her top 3 “best of” list and she is more than happy to let you know it.  She is just a little thing, so light (currently 4.5 kilos) & loves to wear her sweaters.  We want to find her a home where she will continue to feel safe so her personality can continue to blossom.

After...

Picture
Angie’s (Looffa's) family had been waiting for the “right dog” to come along. When sweet Looffa's face went up on the Mexpup website, it was no question that she stole her family-to-be's heart’s. Looffa was a scared little girl when she arrived, but thanks to her Victoria foster family, they helped her gain the confidence that she needed for her to blossom. A big thank you to the foster family, Kim and Nick, for helping Looffa become the best she can be. When her forever family Susan, Andrew and their fur kid Morbid, showed up to meet her for the very first time, she was more than ready to start her new life. Her day’s are now filled with play tug a war with Morbid, and Morbid even let’s little Looffa win sometimes. Looffa enjoys playing with toys, and is more than happy to receive loads of cuddles, love, and attention from her new familly. We are so happy for all of them

Enzo (Formerly Sam): Adopted March 12, 2012

Picture
Sam was seen in Nogalito near the river.  He was so thin & weak that he could barely raise his head to eat the food that rescuer Ana brought him.  Each day she would bring him food & try to gain his trust.  Finally, he began to improve & realized that he could trust this woman.  He followed Ana home & got the basics that he so despertately needed each day. Thanks to Ana, he was on the road to recovery.  He was in a foster home with 2 other dogs & loved it!  He is about 1 year old and will likely be about 35 kilos when at his healthy weight.

After...

Picture
Michelle, Chris, and their two daughters Lauren and Sophia gave Sam (now Enzo) his forever home. They were actively seeking a new member to add to their family, and Enzo just happened to fall into their lap. Enzo is lucky to have a fur sibling named Tia for additional company. He loves his new family, and especially loves the children. Enzo leads a very active life and spends his days either running with Michelle, or hiking up Mount Work along with his other dog friends.

Jade: Adopted March 11, 2012

Picture
Marcella had seen Jade at a bus stop while on her way to an appointment.  Many people were around, but no one seemed to notice the dog just lying there amongst them.  The next time she passed that bus stop, a few days had passed and Jade was still there.  She was able to get close enough to see that the pup had an injured leg and couldn’t walk properly.  She made friends by giving her food & water, and then convinced a taxi to let her bring the dog in the car and home they went.  The next stop was the vet’s office where they got the great news – the x-ray showed no fracture.  She simply needed time to let the soft tissue heal and to do basic water rehab to recover from some type of hard blow.  Licerine was aware of the situation and stepped up, offering to foster this wonderful girl.  Jade is about 1 year old and has done really well in foster care.  She has healed very well and is almost ready for a forever home.  This sweet girl is medium size and is so thankful for the love she is getting.  We can’t wait to find the perfect home for her……she doesn’t need much – a wonderful, loving family that has space in their hearts for this beautiful girl would be amazing.

Juan had wanted a dog for some time.  He is a young man that lives with his parents, so first he had to speak to his parents about it.  His father did what all great dads should do; he spoke with his son about the responsibility involved to make sure that he understood the commitment necessary.  Juan convinced his dad that he was ready for the responsibility and they started looking for a pup that would become their new family member.  When Juan saw Jade’s photo, he knew she was the one.  He visited her while she was in foster care getting healthy and waited patiently until she was ready to be adopted.  The day finally came when this wonderful young man got his new best friend.  We are so happy for all of them and are grateful that Jade has such an amazing new life.

Pumpkin: adopted March 11, 2012

Picture
The story of pumpkin is very similar to many
other dogs in the street.  She was likely abandoned because when she was found, she was very skinny but she was not a puppy, so she probably was not living on the streets for long time.  Pumpkin caught the attention of resuer Jenny as she was passing. Pumpkin was a bit scared- and skinny.  You could count her ribs and easily see her hip bones.  Jenny started feeding and trying to find out her story.  She slept in front of one home, but the people said she wasn’t their dog.  The story was the same for the other neighbors, but thankfully one had been putting out some food for her. She was a bit shy at the beginning, but after a few days, Jenny earned her confidence and was able to take her home for a bath and then a vet check.  She was named Pumpkin because of the color of her coat and because she was found her the night of Halloween last year.  She weighed 11 kilos back then, but now she weights 17 kilos and looks AMAZING! She is totally recovered, healthy and is about 1.5 years old.    She has an incredible personality, is very intelligent and behaves well even in small houses (even though she is very active & needs daily exercise). She is housebroken, can walk with or without a leash, and she likes to give and receive hugs (really!).  She does great with children, other dogs, is a big fan of car rides and is very grateful to have been rescued.

Vanessa and her family lead a very active life style, and thought Pumpkin would make an excellent addition to their family, and they were right! Pumpkin is now in charge of helping her new mom (Vanessa) raise 3 kids.  Pumpkin is working on making a new circle of doggy friends in BC, and is now attending doggy day care.  She has also enrolled her humans in obedience school (you know, to make sure they’re more fluent in doggynese).  Pumpkin is so happy is her new home, and it’s written all over her face.  She has learned of new delicacies such as cheese buns, and condiments like ketchup and mayo and especially like them when they are on a burger!

Angels had seen 3 small dogs living on a property for some time. Their only shelter was a vehicle parked on the empty lot.  They most often didn’t have food or water.  Angels tracked down the owner of the property and asked about the dogs, and was told they were security dogs as someone had been threatening to do something to the owners property. I’m not sure if the threat was real or what they were going to do.  I only know that 3 dogs whose total weight is less than 20 kilos wouldn’t have been able to stop anyone from doing anything.  Amy was one of these 3 dogs who were rescued. After the owner willingly give the dogs up, they went into loving foster care homes. Amy is about 5 years old  and appears to have had a few litters (she is the mom of Gordis).  She gets along with all the dogs & cats at her foster home.  She loves all the attention she gets and is a gentle, sweet girl.  She has yet to bark, so a security dog she is not.

After...

Picture
Mexpup promised to give Amy (now Violet) a forever home, and thanks to Teri and Nolan, we were able to make this promise become a reality. Violet captured Teri and Nolan’s heart from right off the bat. She integrated herself well into the family and has even become popular with the members of Teri and Nolan’s soccer team.  She enjoys going to soccer games, and cheering on her team. She now lives in a wonderful home, and has one fur sibling for company.  Violet was forced into the life of a security dog, but what was there to protect?  Now that she has a family, she finally has a reason. Teri and Nolan feel very fortunate to have Violet join their family, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Andy (formerly Ghandi): adopted March 10, 2012

Picture
Ghandi was seen by rescuer Pegeen as she was on her way to an appointment. He was very
weak and could barely stand or walk, so she bought him a can of food. Later that night. Pegeen was returning from
Que Pasa after catching up on email and facebook, she noticed a recent post on
Facebook. It was a picture of Ghandi - skeletal from his starvation protest -  with his 10 guidelines for life. Number One - "Be the change you want to see in the world." Armed with a leash and another can of food Pegeen looked for the dog- and there he was. It was only rational that Ghandi should become his foster name.  Ghandi received medical treatment for erlichea & malabsorption. Sabuesos (our rockstar vet) had to give Ghandi IV nutrition every few days, because he was not absorbing enough nutrition through regular ways- like eating. With time, Ghandi slowly started to recover from the all the damage he endured in his very short life. He was only a year old, and weighed only 15 lbs when he should have been 30 lbs.  Sadly, this is the type of situation that many people dismiss and can walk past without and a second thought. We are so thankful to have people in our community that stop and choose to make a difference. In the words of Ghandi “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems”.

After...

Picture
Ghandi needed so much medical attention to heal from his very hard life on the streets that he had been been in care as a Mexpup longer than any other before him. Jen saw his picture and profile and knew immediately that he was meant to be with her family. Months loving him, waiting for him to heal and shedding tears everytime this sweet fellow was not cleared to fly finally paid off. Ghandi arrived at Victoria Airport on March 10th and waiting for him was a Mexpup volunteer, Jen and her wonderful family. More tears, but this time it was relief and happiness. Ghandi emerged from his crate and knew that Jen was there for him, he went straight to her.  Ghandi (now Andy) is finally home.

Maggy: adopted March 10, 2012

Picture
Maggy was rescued from the Acopio.  She had been at the shelter for over a month.  Her puppies had been weaned and her future there was not promising. Volunteers at the Acopio said she was so sad that her and her cell mate (the black dog later named Chloe) would cry and lean against each other for support. Rescuers took her to their home in Vallarta and once in foster, Maggy  blossomed from a withdrawn, thin, and sad looking puppy to a happy member of the pack.  She loves people and really needs to be part of a family.  She is a gentle soul who does not have an assertive personality.  She is cuddly, kind and gets along well with other dogs and cats.  She walks well on the leash and is house trained.  Maggy is about 2 years old and has clearly lived on the street most of that time.  She is a wonderful dog and deserves a good life with a loving person or family who really want a loyal companion.

After...

Picture
Kim and Nick are Mexpup Foster Parent's and we love them for all that they do to help our rescue's. They had agreed to foster Maggy once she was in BC and anxiously awaited her arrival. It was easy to see the excitement in Kim's eyes even before Maggy had arrived, and within a few short days of Maggy being in Kim and Nick's care, it was made very clear that Maggy wasn't going anywhere. Maggy has an active family that keeps her busy and we couldn't be happier for all of them.

Missy: adopted Feb 26, 2012

Picture
Missy was found on the side of the road.  What was an 8 week old puppy doing on the side of the road?  Who knows?  Where was her mom, her littermates, her humans?  All we know is that she was alone & needed help. Thankfully Julie & Domingo took her in, gave her love and started her on the road to recovery.  First order of business was to pull out the hundreds of ticks that had literally packed her ears.  The good news is that although abandoned, this little one wasn’t too bad off.  She went into a wonderful foster home with 2 large dogs and 9 cats.  She is pure puppy….running, chasing, playing & then cuddling next to a human once she’s exhausted and wants to sleep.

After...

Picture
Heather had been watching the Mexpup site and when Missy came up she knew that she was the girl for her. After the long journey to Canada, they met at the foster home for the first time and it was love at first sight. Missy finally had her forever family.  She gets to travel nearly everywhere with her family and is enjoying life and exploring academics in puppy school.  She is top in her class and knows several commands though she has only been enrolled for a short period.

Ellie (formerly Lily & Flofy): adopted Feb 25, 2012

Picture
Flofy was in the local high kill shelter.  She was very thin, covered in fleas & ticks, and very scared.  This nervous little girl didn't have much of a chance.  Thankfully, Sofia realized that she needed help and got her out of there quickly.  She has been in foster care for over a week and is already doing much, much better. She does a special happy dance when someone arrives and she loves going to the park. She is safe now and enjoying life in a loving home. This approximately 2 year old pup likes other small & medium sized dogs but is a bit scared around larger dogs (runs for cover behind mom). She is a sweet girl but thinks that cats are for chasing.

Picture
This is Ellie and her new sibling Tank.  Brenda fostered Lily since January and the though of her and Tank having to say good bye was just too much. Brenda worked hard to help Lily gain her confidence and help her heal. She knew that Ellie was home and that this is the forever home Lily was meant to have.

Polly: adopted February 25, 2012

Picture
Polly was rescued as a small puppy from a high kill shelter, protected, nutured and prepared for adoption.  She was adopted to a local family with children that wanted a puppy....sadly, she was treated as a toy.  When the children grew  tired of her, she was returned to the shelter.  The foster mom that had nutured her  was heart broken as were the volunteers.  She was no longer an easily adoptable  puppy, but a dog.  A dog that had been abused and was nervous
around men and  children.  A dog that hid around loud noises & brooms.
There are lots of  dogs here and now she is just one of them.  We can't let that
happen.  She has survived 2 horrible chapters in her life and we won't let that
happen again. She is doing so well.  Has been living in foster care for a few
months and has her confidence back.  She is just a happy dog that wants a happy home.  Her foster home had 3 other dogs & she thinks they & all the humans are great.

after...

Picture
Polly was in long term foster care and was really hoping to soon get a home of her own. Marilyn and her daughter Anna made Polly’s wish come true! She now lives in a wonderful home and has a fur sibling named Darcy for company. Polly enjoys having Anna as a running buddy and loves being Canadian!  We couldn’t be happier for them!

Harley (formerly Tooney): adopted Feb 23, 2012

Picture
Looney & Tooney have had a sad life.  This brother and sister lived on a terrace day & night.  They often were left without food or water.  At about 6 months old, it was early in what was promising to be a dismal life.  They more often than not didn’t have the basic necessities and things that make a life livable – love, companionship, caring, security – were not a part of their life and didn’t seem to be a part of their future.  Well, that all changed one day.  Tere saw them and started talking to the owner.  It took a number of weeks, but she finally convinced him to give them up - YEA!!!  They are now in foster care, have been vetted & we are so excited to get them started on their next chapter.  Looney (red collar) is a sweet little girl and Tooney (green collar) is her brother.  They are sweet, calm and happy dogs (you would be happy too if you got pulled from a miserable home).  They are tiny (Looney 1.65 kilos & Tooney 1.45 kilos) and at approximately 8 months old, won’t grow much (they should fill out a bit with proper nutrition).  Are you looking for a little pup to add some love and joy to your life?  Have you been looking for a Chihuahua to remind you of Mexico when not on vacation???  Well, you need look no further.  These pups are ready for you too!!

Picture
Sometimes things work out just as they are supposed to.  Rebecca and her daughter were interested in adopting Rito, but he had already found his forever home.  As soon as they saw Harley, they knew he was their guy.  They had to wait patiently for his arrival, but it was well worth it.  He has settled into their home and brings them constant smiles and joy.  A happy family with the wonderfully happy pup is what animal rescue is all about!

Taquito: adopted February 23, 2012

Picture
Taquito was found by Pauline & Angelika while they were visiting Puerto Vallarta. They are both animal advocates, so it was no surprise when they took in this little guy. He was so skinny that his hip bones were the tallest part of his back, he was covered in ticks and fleas and suffering from ehrlichia and non-contagious mange. Living on the streets is tough, but it seems this guy had been doing it for quite some time. While walking by a local taco stand the woman told Pauline that she had been feeding this pup for quite some time. She was sure he didn’t have a home during all of those months…this is one smart survivor. He is about 1.5 years old, weighs 10 kilos and is doing great in foster care. He has lots of energy, loves to play with other dogs and seems to be reliving his puppy months - enjoying now what he couldn't when in survival mode on the street. He is just about ready to fly to Canada and find his forever home…..let’s make sure it doesn’t take too long!  He has spent too much of his life without a family and we don’t want him to lose anymore time.

after.....

Picture
Well it's been quite a journey for Taquito and he made lots of friends along the way!  We are happy to tell all his friends (4 legged and 2 legged) that Taquito's journey to his forever home is over and he couldn't be happier.  He lives in Abbotsford with a wonderful couple and their first MexPup Emily!  Look through Taquito's album for a great story with a fantastically happy ending!

Clio: adopted February 4, 2012

Picture
Clio was out on the streets limping & avoiding traffic. This approximately 4.5 month old puppy had the big belly (full of parasites) with the skinny body, was covered in fleas & ticks, and was apparently struck by a force (one of her legs seemed broken). Angeles saw her & knew she had to help (she always does). Once she was off the streets, she had a trip to the vet to figure out what was wrong and get her started on treatment. The good news is that although her hip was injured, the bone was already healing well and since she is young, they expect a full recovery (she is doing some therapy & taking Glucosamine). She was treated for her parasites and once healthy got her vaccinations & was spayed.   She is all “puppy” and is in constant motion which is never more apparent than when you’re trying to get a nice photo of her (nearly impossible).  She loves people and other dogs & is just a happy little girl.  If you want a bundle of energy and joy to enter your life, you need look no further.  She will love you, entertain you and will certainly bring joy to your life.

after.....

Picture
Clio arrived in Canada and settled well into her foster home.  Thankfully, it wasn't too long until a family saw her photo and knew she was just the right pup for their family.  She has her own little girls now life is just as it should be......a happy pup with a wonderful family.

Noche: adopted February 4, 2012

Picture
Noche had been seen roaming near the Purr Project along with another black dog for sometime and came to their attention one day. She was crying while sititng next to a burning trash pile - remaining there a few days. The guys went to check on her and found the burnt body of her friend, the other black dog, in the pile.  She was mourning the loss of her friend and I would guess she was lost & unsure what to do.  She was immediately taken in and provided shelter.

She was placed with a family on Vancouver Island, but sadly it wasn't the right match.  She is now in a foster home in Nanaimo & can't wait to find her forever home.  She is great with other dogs but would probably do best in a home that does not have very small children.  Please help us to find her a home.

after....

Picture
Stephanie fostered Noche and thankfully her dogs and her sister’s MexPup Stanley were there to help Noche learn everything he needed to know about being Canadian.  After all that Noche has been through we are now so happy to say that she has found her forever home on Vancouver Island!  She has joined an amazing family and we couldn’t be happier.  Thank you to everyone who came together to give this sweet girl the great life she deserves.  Yeah Noche!

Bode: adopted February 4, 2012

Picture
We met a great couple at the airport while we were getting Emily and Sam prepared for their flights to Canada.  They told us about a mother and her pups who were living in a storage facility (bodega) North of Puerto Vallarta.  Long story short, the pups were already adopted by some other people, the mom was in fine shape, we arranged to speak with the owner about getting her fixed and... when we got back to the car there was a sweet dog laying next to it.  He was a little timid, but when we got some food out of the car for him he attacked it as if he hadn’t eaten in days and after that we all became fast friends.  What a sweet and loving dog he is!  We took him in with the help of our great friend Nicole and he’s starting to put on weight and really thrive.  We need to find him a good foster home here in PV while we work on finding him a forever home.  If you can foster, or if you’re looking to adopt a great dog, please contact us and we’ll introduce you to him.

after.....

Picture
A huge thank you goes out to Michelle and Andres for fostering Bode after Nicole, all of you contributed to Bode's great personality and disposition.  And that great personality is going to come in handy since Bode was adopted by a wonderful family on Vancouver Island!  That's right, Joanne got her wings and became an official Guardian Angel when she flew Bode to his new life and now Trysha and her family have given Bode the forever home he deserves!  Bode was the first MexPup to show up for his own rescue and we will never forget him!  Thanks everyone!

Lacey (formerly Princesa): adopted Jan 31, 2012

Picture
Princesa was found on the street dodging cars and trying to blend into the background.  She stayed far away from humans and scavenged for her survival.  Thankfully, she finally let some people get close enough that they were able to get her off the street.  She was covered in fleas & ticks.  Her fur was matted and boy was she dirty.  She was taken in by the SPCA and offered a new chance at life.  Off to the vets for a health check, some medicine, grooming and a little TLC.  It certainly worked as you can see in her photos.  She is a sweet 10 month old poodle/terrier mix (we think).  She weighs about 4 kilos is fully vaccinated, spayed and ready for a new life.  She is still getting used to living in a home and having people care for her.  We believe her full personality will unveil itself as she gains confidence over time with the knowledge that she is a loved member of a family.  She is adorable, sweet, shy and will make a wonderful companion for one lucky family.

after.....

Picture
Lacey made the long Journey to Canada and integrated very well with her foster family. She enjoyed every moment of her new life - including the snow!  Lacey caught Jean’s eye and was welcomed with open arms into her new family. Lacey now lives in a wonderful home with her mom Jean and her new fur sibling Oliver (a very delightful Dachshund).  Lacey is still learning what it’s like to be a part of a family because she has never had one before, but she knows that she is now safe and loved.  We couldn’t have wished for anything more.

Ryki (formerly Raicilla): adopted Jan 26, 2012

Picture
Our great friends (and fellow animal rescuers) Carmen and Claudia from El Arrayan have saved this very sweet 5 to 6 year old, 9 kilo black poodle mix from the streets.  It seems she had a home at some point, but was discarded and left to fend for herself.  That is no life for a pup & so they took her in and asked MexPup to help find her a home.  We've named her Raicilla and she is a doll.

Raicilla had a problem with one of her hips - an issue that required surgery (Femoral Head Osteotomy).  The procedure was done on Vancouver Island and this sweetheart is now painfree for the first time in a long time.  The other great news is that it will not need to be repeated - it a great fix for her issue and the vet is extremely please with the outcome.  She does ok with other dogs, but isn't a big fan of cats.  I'm going to let Freddy Mercury speak for Raicilla here...  "Can anybodyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy find meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee somebody to-ooo LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEE?

after.....

Picture
It may have taken some time, but great things are worth waiting for and her new family is GREAT!  She found the perfect family; they love her just the way she is.  Her hip is doing well and continues to get stronger every day.  She gets lots of wonderful attention and is simply happy.  Yea for Ryki and Yea for her new family!

Penny: adopted January 14th, 2012

Picture
Penny was a victim of animal abuse by her former owners. The beatings injured her back legs and thankfully a neighbor took her in and paid for the surgery she needed. They are still a little crooked, but she walks & runs normally. Sadly, the "owners" claimed her back only to keep her chained up outside their house 24/7. They said "she barks a lot, she poops and bites" and Jenniffer told them "she is doing things that a puppy is supposed to", she needs discipline and attention, they did not listen and a week after that they kicked her again and broke 2 toes of her back paw. That was the moment that Jenniffer said “no more” and decided to give her a BETTER life, the life she deserves. Penny is 7 months old, weighs 13 kilos, is a black lab mix that loves to play with balls, the water; she loves children, adults and playing with other dogs, but she isn’t so sure about cats. She is EXTREMELY active, loves to run and plays all day long chewing bones, stuffed animals and all kind of noisy toys. She has a beautiful coat, enjoys being groomed, is very friendly but does bark a bit more than normal. She isn’t aggressive, but does have a noisy personality.  She is a WONDERFUL, LOVING and LOYAL dog that is just hopeful she will soon find her forever home.

after.....

Picture
Penny ended up in heaven...also known as Gabriola Island, BC.  Her Guardian Angels Randy & Georgene fell for this sweet girl and took it upon themselves to find her new family. She has a wonderful forever home with 3 other dogs, lots of other animals and Billy the goat (she thinks he's great).  She has lots of space to run, lots of friends to play with and a family that loves her.  We are so thankful to everyone that helped get this girl a second chance....she is definitely taking advantage of it!

Roddy (formerly Rotty): adopted Jan 8, 2012

Picture
Rotty was pulled from the high kill shelter in PV as a small puppy.  Vallarta had been particularly cold and the puppies at the acopio were dying as their mothers had been euthanized & they had no one to protect them and keep them warm. He was nurtured by Del & Jack, got healthy, grew and was ready for his forever home.  He was adopted by a family with small children.  After a few months, they grew bored of him and returned him.  Sadly, they had treated him poorly - this once happy, inquisitive puppy was now nervous, skittish, afraid of children & scared of men.  He was again taken into foster family & with time and patience has recovered his confidence.  He is almost 1 year old and weighs about 16 kilos.  It is time to find him a forever home that will provide a loving environment.  He loves to play, he loves to run, he loves his foster family and will make one lucky family a great dog.  Are you that lucky family??

after.....

Picture
Rotty's forever family read his story and made the decision that he had been through enough challenges in his life and it was time for him to come to Canada to live with them in a safe and loving home.  They waited and waited for the day when he would meet his new family and when that day came the whole family went to the airport to meet him, they even made a sign to welcome him!  What an amazing success story for the whole family and for MexPup!  Thanks to everyone who helped give Rotty the life he deserved!

Rasta: adopted January 7, 2012

Picture
Rasta was in the high kill shelter in Puerto Vallarta.  His photo & a video was sent out, along with a plea for help.  After seeing the image, I knew we had to get him out of there.  He looked horrible, he was in a new and scarey place and he just wouldn't stop wagging his tail.  This pup wants a home, wants to be loved and is willing to make the best of any situation.  We think he deserves a great place to live and share his joy.  He is a happy pup in the worst of circumstances.  Imagine what he will be like in the best!  How about it, do you have what this little guy needs.....some space in your home and a desire to be loved?

after.....

Picture
When is a failure something to celebrate?  When it's a foster failure!! Rasta and his foster family have decided to stay together forever and we couldn't be happier for all of them!  Jazmin told her mom Angela that she wanted a dog to join their family one day, and asked her mom if they could foster a dog to see what it was like.  Well, it was like a dog belonged in their family all along!  Rasta has found his forever home with these wonderful people and what an amazing home he found!  Viva Angela and Jazmin!  Viva Rasta!  Viva MexPup!!!

Unconditional Love !
