POPEYA
A group of dogs wandered the outskirts of town, dirty, malnourished, and covered in ticks and fleas. They survived by digging through trash cans, often chased away with rocks or shouts…just for trying to eat. But one kind neighbor refused to look away. They reached out for help and Nayely, always ready to rescue those in need, stepped in. She made space at the shelter, gathered the frightened dogs, and gave them their first baths, real meals, and gentle care. After vet visits, parasite treatments, and lots of love, they blossomed. That is how Popeya began her new life.
Today Popeya is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about popeya
Popeya is about 3.5 years old, weighs around 18.3 kilos, and is an Australian Cattle dog mix. Popeya has come a long way since being rescued; she is now a sweet, social girl who gets along well with adult women, men, teenagers, and especially children. She is friendly with visitors and enjoys the company of other dogs at the shelter. While she can be a little shy when meeting new people or dogs, she quickly relaxes and shows her loving, playful side once she feels safe. Because of her past, Popeya can be possessive with her food and likes to eat fast, sometimes even trying to “help” other dogs finish their bowls. This is easily managed by feeding her separately from other dogs. When she is not playing or exploring, Popeya loves to chill and take naps in her cozy sleeping area, which she happily shares with her furry friends. Popeya is now ready for her home, one filled with love, safety, and the warmth she has been waiting for.

NINA
FROM GARBAGE TO GRATITUDE
There was a female dog living on the streets with her mother and sister, searching through garbage just to survive. The irresponsible owner mistreated them, and heartbreakingly, all three were pregnant at the same time. A kind soul named Julie rescued them and brought them into her home, where they each gave birth to six puppies. A few years passed and although she tried to find them all families, Nina and a few others remained in her care. Then the unthinkable happened, Julie was suddenly asked to leave the house she was renting, with no warning. Thankfully, kind souls stepped in to help, making sure Nina and her grown babies would not end up back on the street. When Nina was rescued, she was fighting severe stomach parasites and low platelets from infections. With dedicated veterinary care and lots of love, she recovered beautifully and now it’s her time to find family to call her own.
Today Nina is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about nina
Nina is about 5 years old, weighs around 29 kilos, and is a loving mixed-breed (the best there is) beauty. Today, Nina is healthy, full of gratitude, and ready for a second chance at life; she is a sweet and gentle soul who has come such a long way. She is thriving at the shelter, where she gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes and loves children of all ages when they come visit. Nina is not possessive over her food or toys and even shares her favorite cozy spot to sleep. After a few barks and making sure it is safe for visitors to be there, she greets them with a happy wag, and nothing seems to shake her calm spirit; not traffic, thunderstorms, or even fireworks. While Nina is wonderful with other dogs and people, she prefers not to be around cats and will let them know with a loud bark. She enjoys her daily walks outside the shelter and is always up for a car ride, her tail wagging the entire way. Nina deserves a safe, loving home where she will never have to worry about food or fear again. If you’ve been thinking about opening your heart and home to a loyal friend, Nina is waiting to meet you.

KIRAH

FROM SURVIVAL TO LOVE
Kirah’s story begins on the streets, where she and her companion showed up out of nowhere one day, wandering into a construction site as if hoping they would finally find a safe place. No one knew if they had ever had a home or if life on the streets was all they had ever known. Every day, the construction workers gave them food, water, and sometimes a little affection; a brief game or a gentle pat on the head, but that was all. No basic care, no shelter from disease, just survival. Covered in fleas and ticks, their skin raw and infected, they waited. And then the day they feared came: the construction ended, and the workers stopped coming. Just like that, they were alone again. But hope arrived in the form of one compassionate worker who could not bear to leave them behind. He reached out for help, and Claudia, who had helped him with another rescue before, welcomed them into her shelter without hesitation. With veterinary care, proper nutrition, and a safe place to rest, they both began to heal, inside and out.
Today Kirah is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about kirah
Kirah is an Australian Shepard mix, about 3.5 years old, weighs around 22 kilos. She loves people of all ages; men, women, and children alike, and wags her tail enthusiastically whenever someone new visits the shelter. She spends her days playing joyfully with her furry friends and then happily finds a cool spot to relax and watch the fun continue around her. Her favorite time of day? Walk time, of course! Kira struts out proudly, sometimes growling at passing dogs as if to say, “Look at me now, I am safe and loved!” While she is not a fan of cats and gets a little nervous around them, she’s completely unfazed by loud noises like traffic, thunder, or fireworks. This smart girl is getting the hang of crate sleeping and is learning the basic commands like “sit” and “come.” She is highly motivated by treats and absolutely adores getting pets and affection. Kira is ready for a forever home where she can keep learning, keep loving, and keep showing off just how far she has come.

NANIS
THE LITTLE DOG WHO LEARNED TO WALK IN THE SUNSHINE
This helpless dog was kept into a world without love; a small soul trapped in a cruel backyard breeding operation where her only purpose was to produce litter after litter. Locked in a small filthy cage, surrounded by fear and neglect, her days were filled with silence, suffering, and solitude. But her story did not end there; thanks to the courage of Karla, a dedicated rescuer who refused to turn away, Nanis and 29 other dogs were liberated from their nightmare where they never knew the world beyond the wires. With the help of kind volunteers, Nanis was brought back to life, slowly learning that hands could comfort, voices could soothe, and hearts could heal.

Today Nanis is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about nanis
Nanis is a Chihuahua female about 4 years old and weighs 8.5 kilos.
Since arriving in foster care, Nanis has slowly been learning to trust. She enjoys the company of other dogs in the house and has discovered the simple joys she never had before, especially her daily walks, which have become her favorite part of the day. She walks beautifully on leash, stopping often to sniff the flowers and bushes along the way, as if savoring every new scent. She is still a little shy with new people and prefers a calm, adult-only home where she can feel safe. Her crate remains her cozy retreat during the day, and at night she sleeps peacefully there, knowing she is protected. Nanis has already come such a long way, but her journey is not over yet. She is ready for a loving, patient family to show her that the world is kind, that food will always be there, and that she is finally home.

PRINCIPE
A GENTLE SOUL WAITING FOR HIS FAMILY
This puppy story began like too many others...In a rural area where many animals are sadly left behind, he and his siblings were about to be abandoned but thanks to the kindness of a caring neighbor who stepped in just in time, their fate changed forever. She found them a safe foster home and reached out for help. With the support of Nayely and the shelter team, they finally got the care they needed; tests for life threatening diseases, vaccines, good food, vitamins, and lots of love. Principe is one of these pups.
Today Principe is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about Principe
Principe is about 3.5 years old, weighs around 7 kilos, and is a Chihuahua/ Min Pin mix loving boy. He is now a handsome boy, healthy and full of life ready to start a brighter future with a family who will love him as much as he deserves. At first, Príncipe can be quite shy when meeting new people or dogs; he likes to take his time to make sure everything feels safe. It can take him a little bit of time to warm up but once he realizes he gets to know someone and is surrounded by love, he blossoms into the sweetest, most affectionate boy that adores cuddles and hugs. He gets along with people of all ages at the shelter, and his daily interactions are with people aged 3 years old to 60+. He greets the people he knows with happy tail wags. Around his doggy friends, he is relaxed and friendly; no food, toy, or space aggression, just a happy pup enjoying playtime with his dog friends. When new people visit the shelter Principe is sweet but cautious. He is not the kind of dog that will immediately approach a stranger although he is curious. He will generally take himself to a quiet place such as under a chair or dresser or somewhere that feels safe if he feels overwhelmed or is unsure, but will regularly peek his head out and try to slowly army crawl over to see what is so great about the new person giving all the dogs attention!!

Principe has been in care in the shelter for a while which can be a loud place with 60+ other dogs. We feel that once Principe has the opportunity to be in a quiet home of his own he will slowly come out of his shell more. He has NO negative behaviours in these moments of overwhelm such as growling or bearing teeth, he just removes himself if he feels overwhelmed. Príncipe loves going for walks and behaves very well on leash; he just prefers short strolls where he can feel secure and take in the world at his own pace. While he gets along with people of all ages including children we think principe's ideal home would be a quiet lowkey one with people aged 14+. We think young children visitors that he could get to know overtime would be totally fine but the commotion of young children running around regularly would not be his ideal home. He is not a city boy and would do best in more rural neighbourhoods where he can enjoy a calm life with his person or people. He’s calm, kind, and full of love to give — all he needs now is someone patient and caring to show him that home is the safest place of all. If you’ve been looking for a loyal friend with a golden heart, Príncipe is waiting for you.

ESTRELLA
A SHINING STAR READY TO LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE
This little dog’s journey began on the streets of Puerto Vallarta, where she and her mother were surviving day-to-day in an underprivileged neighborhood. Concerned neighbors finally reached out for help, and the city’s Green Patrol (Animal Welfare Department) responded. When officers arrived, they found the two young dogs wandering together: thin, dirty, and clearly in need of care, yet still hopeful enough to wag their tails at the sight of kind humans. At the vet clinic, they remained calm and cooperative as staff performed tests, gave them much-needed baths, and treated them for fleas and ticks. Everyone was relieved to discover that, although they were malnourished and infested with parasites, they tested negative for any life-threatening diseases. With proper care, they had a full recovery. One of these little brave survivors is Estrella.
Today Estrella is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about ESTRELLA
Estrella is about 4 years old, weighs 5 kilos, and is a loving Chihuahua/ Rat Terrier mix female. From the very beginning, Estrella’s gentle nature captured the hearts of everyone who met her. She accepted help with quiet gratitude, leaned into every kind touch, and showed that, even after hardship, she still believed in people. Estrella gets along with men, women, and people of all ages as well as other dogs and cats! She greets visitors at the shelter with gentle curiosity, and she is not bothered by loud noises, heavy traffic, or the thunderstorms that often unsettle other dogs. On her walks, she calmly meets other dogs on leash, showing polite, friendly behavior. In her foster home, she shares her food, her favorite sleeping spots, and even her toys with her foster siblings. She is a smart girl and though she can be shy and a little nervous at first, once she realizes she is in a safe and loving environment, she relaxes. She is affectionate and playful, always following her favourite human everywhere. Hugs are still new to her, so she gets a little stiff at first, but she never tries to bite. She just needs time and patience to learn what affection feels like. Estrella deserves a home where she can finally feel secure, cherished, and truly loved. She has so much love to give in return.

HOMERO
YOUR LOYAL LITTLE ADVENTURE BUDDY AWAITS
A cute dog once had a family but sadly, they didn’t truly care for him. He was only kept to breed puppies and never given the love or care that he deserved. Fortunately, somebody was aware of the situation and asked the family to release him, which without much interest they agreed to. Nayeli was contacted and she agreed to take him. He came to the shelter dirty, full of fleas, and his nails were painfully long. The first type of care he had in his whole life was a vet visit. The usual tests were done, and he only tested positive for ehrlichia, a disease caused by ticks but easily treatable with antibiotics. Since he was overweight, a special diet was given to bring his weight down.
Today Homero is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about homero
Homero is about 4 years old, weighs around 9 kilos, and is a cute and friendly pug. Homero gets along beautifully with adults, teenagers, and children. He adores his foster dog siblings and even gets along well with cats. Confident and sociable, he loves his daily walks outside the shelter, greeting every dog that passes by. Car rides? He’s all in. Every trip is an adventure, even if it is just to the vet. He is not fazed by loud noises like fireworks, thunderstorms, or heavy traffic. The only time he gets a little possessive is during meals and he likes to guard his food by lying over his bowl (adorably!), but once mealtime is over, he is back to being his playful, friendly self. Homero is not a fan of crates or small spaces; he wants to be part of the action and craves human attention and when he feels he is being ignored he cries. He is an active, loving little dog who enjoys playtime and companionship. A home with another playful pup or children would be perfect for him. Homero has already been through so much and now he is ready to find a real family; one that will cherish him for the wonderful, loyal companion he truly is.

GRODY
SHY AT FIRST, LOYAL FOR LIFE
Grody and her siblings journey began in the most heartbreaking way: a woman walking by a trash pile noticed a plastic bag that was moving. Inside, to her horror, there was an entire litter of puppies, abandoned and barely clinging to life. She tried calling the city shelter but got no response. Desperate to help, she reached out to Nayeli, who didn’t hesitate for a second and took them all in. When they arrived at the shelter, they were filthy, malnourished, and crawling with fleas and ticks. A vet visit revealed they were (thankfully) free of any of the scariest illnesses, but they were battling worms, parasites, and giardia which can be dangerous for small puppies. With proper care, deworming, and antibiotics, they have made an incredible recovery. Grody was one of those lucky puppies!
Today Grody is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about grody
Grody is about 1 year old, weighs around 10.3 kilos, and is a loving mixed-breed handsome male. Today, Grody is a picture of resilience; sweet, social, and full of love to give. He is the kind of dog who quietly wins your heart with his gentle ways and playful charm. Whether he is trotting alongside you on a walk, wagging his tail at a passing pup, or curling up after playtime with his doggy friends, Grody brings warmth wherever he goes. He is gentle with kids, affectionate with anyone willing to give him a scratch behind the ears, and happy to share everything he has, from his food to his favorite cozy corner. Though he can get a bit anxious in new environments and is not a fan of crates, he quickly settles once he knows he is safe. Grody needs a family who sees his heart. Someone to show him that the world is safe, walks are fun, and love is forever. Whether you’re looking for a buddy for yourself, a family member to join your kids, or a companion for your dog, Grody would be a great match. He is ready for a forever home and to fill your life with joy.

JACKSON
AWAY FROM DANGER, NOW READY FOR LOVE
He was just a puppy, and he had been given to a person that loves animals, but his life was in danger. The man admitted he was struggling greatly with addiction which led to violence and knew he could not care for a puppy. Concerned neighbors did not have space or resources but were determined to remove the pup from a terrible situation. We are grateful the man asked for help and that he surrender the puppy before any harm was done. Thanks to a network of compassionate people and Claudia opening a space in the shelter, the puppy is now safe, happy, healthy, and full of hope. He was taken to the vet where tests were done and thankfully, they came back negative to scary illnesses however he was full of internal and external parasites which were taken care of with antibiotics.
Today Jackson is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about jackson
Jackson is a Jack Russel mix about 10 months old, and he weighs around 11.5 kilos. Jackson gets along beautifully with everyone. He adores kids and would spend all day playing with the other dogs at the shelter if he could. When visitors arrive, he is the first to rush over, tail wagging, eager to greet them with his big puppy smile. Jackson loves his daily walks and knows that every car ride means an adventure, even if it is just a quick trip to the vet. He’s a confident little guy who is not bothered by thunderstorms, fireworks, or loud noises. His favorite thing in the world is to stay active and have fun. Jackson would thrive in a home with a very active family, ideally one that has another dog or a super active human to help him burn off his puppy energy. GRETA
RESCUED, HEALED, AND WAITING FOR LOVE
There was a dog once roaming the neighborhood, thirsty, starving, and in desperate need of help. A kind neighbor couldn’t look the other way; she gave her food, water, and a safe place to rest while searching for someone who could truly change her future. That was when Claudia, with her big heart, stepped in and welcomed the dog in need into the shelter. When she arrived, she was in heartbreaking condition; her fur was filthy and matted, her body covered in ticks and fleas, and she could barely walk from the pain of a severe limp. At the vet, X-rays revealed she had a hip dislocation along with internal parasites. Despite everything she had endured, the brave dog never lost her gentle spirit. She bravely underwent treatment, hip surgery, and rehab, proving she is a fighter.

Today Greta is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about GRETA
Greta is about 11 months old, weighs around 18.5 kilos, and is a beautiful mix of what we think are Aussie Shepherd, Irish Wolfhound and Wirehaired Griffon. Today, Greta has healed beautifully and is ready for what she has always deserved: a loving forever home. Greta is not just beautiful; she is also full of love and joy. This sweet girl gets along wonderfully with humans of all ages and all the dogs in the shelter. She happily shares her food bowl, toys, and even her favorite sleeping spots. Loud noises don’t bother her, and her playful spirit shines when she’s around children or canine friends. Greta has a lot of energy and would be the perfect companion for an active family who loves playtime and adventure. She is also a quick learner; she already knows commands like “ven” (come) and “sentada” (sit). Even when left alone in the house for several hours, she has shown that she is trustworthy and calm. The only thing Greta asks for is a cat-free home, as she doesn’t get along with feline companions. Other than that, she’s an easygoing, affectionate, and loyal dog ready to give her whole heart to the family who chooses her.

FLOR
On a ranch where dogs were left to reproduce unchecked, the owner would keep only the tough males for “protection” and cruelly dispose of the females to keep the population down. When a litter of mostly female puppies was born, their fate seemed sealed. But one kind neighbor refused to let that happen. She managed to save just one tiny puppy from certain death and asked for help to get it away from the place. When the puppy arrived at the shelter, she was frail, filthy, and fighting parasites inside and out. After a vet check, it was good to learn she was free of any life-threatening diseases; she was simply malnourished and in desperate need of care, love, and safety.
Today Flor is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about flor
Flor is about 3 years old, weighs around 19 kilos, and is a sight hound mix beauty. Despite never having known the comfort of a family, Flor’s heart is wide open. She adores people of all ages and is especially sweet with children. At the shelter, she plays happily with the other dogs and never minds sharing her toys, food bowl, or even her favorite nap spot. Flor can be a little cautious in new places or when meeting new faces, but her shyness fades quickly once she realizes there is no danger. That is when her true personality shines; gentle, affectionate, and eager to connect. She patiently waits for her daily walks, tail wagging, ready to take in every smell and sight with joy, always reassured that she has a safe place to return to. She is a playful girl who thrives in the company of kids and canine friends, and she dreams of a family who will take her on adventures, explore the world with her, and love her as much as she will love them. CHAPARRO
FROM TRASH TO JOURNEY TO LOVE
There was a dog living at a construction site with his little companion, finding shelter wherever they could and surviving on scraps of kindness. But when the project was coming to an end, their future would be uncertain as the security guard decided they should be put down because “no one wanted them.” Thankfully, someone remembered Claudia, who had helped them before, and she rushed without hesitation to rescue them just in time. When they were picked up, they were dirty, covered in ticks, and carrying the weight of fear. But despite everything, their eyes still shone with hope. A very much needed wash and a vet visit to get tests done was next and fortunately, besides being malnourished they tested negative to life threatening diseases. Chaparro was one of them.

Today Chaparro is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about chaparro (now named Charlie)
Chaparro is about 3 years old, weighs around 15 kilos, and is a handsome Coonhound/ Pointer mix. Chaparro is now a confident, happy boy that gets along beautifully with everyone; women, men, kids…… you name it! When visitors come to the shelter, Chaparro is the first to say hello, wagging his tail proudly to show what a friendly, social pup he is. He is not scared of loud noises, fireworks, traffic, or thunderstorms; no problem, Chaparro stays calm and cool through it all. His favorite part of the day? His daily walks, where he walks nicely on leash and loves showing how well-behaved he can be. At mealtimes, he is totally chill, no food aggression here, though when it comes to toys, he prefers to keep them all to himself and not share (fair enough). He is playful but also loves having a good nap on the living room sofa, his favorite spot to relax. Chaparro is past the puppy phase, doesn’t chew on things, and already knows basic commands like “Ven” (come) and “Sentado” (sit). Chaparro is now safe, clean, and dreaming of something simple yet powerful: a family who will love him forever and for that, Chaparro is waiting with an open heart.

Molly and Rocket (and Shasta too, of course), they were the 3-amigos, two Mexpups and a doodle dog.  Creating & keeping their Instagram page up to date with their shenanigans was so much fun.  Now, of course, those pictures are so precious as both Shasta doodle and Miss Molly have crossed the rainbow bridge.

With our hearts being broken not once but twice by the loss of two very unique and irreplaceable companions, it meant that welcoming another dog into the family was probably not going to happen.  We still had Rocket (aka Falcon) and that was good enough for us.  Yeah, I hear ya, life carries on, fair comment.  Watching Rocket continue to mourn for his sister, was heartbreaking.  Rocket who is usually a force to reckon with, and full of energy was still just moping about the house.  We’d go on walks – he’d lag behind.  We’d give him treats; he’d sniff them and walk away.  He was not a happy boy.

We started saying things like, we only have 1 walking buddy now, maybe we need another…. (Gasp!! No, it’s too soon) little did we know but we had each started to just look at the rescue’s that suddenly began to appear on our fb pages (damn Siri and those fb algorithms!).  Our hearts were opening up to the prospect of finding that one dog which was waiting patiently for us to say, you’re perfect, time to come home.

We could never ever replace Molly (or Shasta), nor would we want to.  There are just so many souls who just needed a chance, deserved to feel safe & loved and to live the life of a content, well fed, looked after companion.

Then one day, Marc shows me a picture of the most adorable little face….  It took just one second to see that this little guy was going to be Rocket’s new BFF.  The rest, as they say is history…..

Cue… Chaparro, with his perfectly fitting name and laid-back personality.  We could not have hoped for a better fit for our family.  He is big love in a little package!! In the last week, his life has been turned upside down – in a good way.  A 5+ hr plane journey followed by a 5hr car ride, left him exhausted, hungry, and well, a little scared.  Within a few short hours of being home, his little tail was starting to wag, he curled up on our laps and slept.  We looked at each other and at Rocket and nodded, this was the perfect addition to our family.  Rocket did zoomies and play bowed twice trying to get Chaparro to play but it was very late, and we were all exhausted, so it was bedtime.  Rocket slept with his paw on Chaparro, so we knew that Rocket was very happy boy at having a brother.  Chaparro has a lovely new harness and collar and thoroughly enjoys his daily hikes with his new pack…. Rocket and Charlie strutting ahead with their tails up high and noses scenting all the lovely smells of the woods in the Fall.

We decided to change his name.  Drum roll please…  So may we introduce to the Mexpup world… Señor Charles C. Smudge (or as we call him, Charlie).  He is settling in very well and while it is still early days, I’m confident the pathway ahead is going to be a happy one.

We can’t thank everyone at Mexpup enough for bringing not 1, not 2 but 3 incredible pups into our lives.  Mexpup is indeed our favourite breed!

Time to dust off the IG page, I see shenanigans in Charlie and Rocket’s future.

CHATITA
CHATITA'S SECOND CHANCE AT LOVE
It was close to midnight when Lupita, on her way home after work, saw a truck almost run over something small in the road, and as she got closer, realized it was a skinny little dog, covered in dust and fear. The pup hid in the bushes, as if trying to disappear. When Lupita opened her car door, this smart girl jumped in without hesitation, as if she knew her chance had finally arrived. In the following days, she asked around the neighborhood, but no one claimed her. Some people said she had been wandering the area for several days, lost and alone. Lupita took her to the vet to get checked and tested for scary illnesses and today, after care, vaccines, deworming, and treatment for an infection, she has recovered beautifully and is showing her true personality: sweet, affectionate, grateful… though still a little shy after everything she has been through.
Today Chatita is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about chatita
Chatita is about 7 years old, weighs around 6 kilos, and is a cute Puggle mixed female. From the moment she was rescued, Chatita has shown what a brave and loving little soul she is. Today, she is ready to find her forever home, and she has the sweetest personality to offer. Chatita gets along beautifully with adults and teenagers, but her heart truly lights up around young children. She welcomes visitors with friendliness, enjoys her daily walks, and happily greets new dogs along the way. Car rides are her favorite as she knows they mean adventure is coming. She is a playful girl who loves toys, human contact, and even runs after cats just to play with them. At home, she is well-mannered: not destructive when left alone, perfectly content to nap on the sofa, and happy to share her toys and sleeping spots with the other dogs. While she is not food possessive, she does prefer having her own bowl at mealtimes. Chatita is gentle, affectionate, and so ready to bring joy into the life of the family that chooses her. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who loves kids, cuddles, and playtime, Chatita might just be the perfect match.

COSMO
Cosmo is a 7 month old 4.5kg ish scottie type boy. He was forcibly removed from a neighbors house when we heard him being beaten incredibly brutally. The biggest initial concern was head trauma since his eyes were bleeding and shortly after rescuing him he started presenting with seizures lasting several hours at a time. Thankfully these only lasted for the first 2 days and since then he has had absolutely 0 seizures and is truly just a fun loving and happy guy. The vet believes that since he was only around 10-12 weeks old when he was beaten, his brain was young and elastic enough that it was able to make a full recovery as he was still growing.
Today Cosmo is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about COSMO
We are so grateful that we happened to be home and able to rescue Cosmo because he is incredibly special and the biggest comment we get when we are out and about is that he lights up a room. He is incredibly social and happy, and he is so entertaining that I am content to sit and watch him like a TV show at night. His true love is playing with toys, and although he loves to share his toys with his dog siblings he will take great joy in running around and playing by himself, he is great at fetch and once he has tuckered himself out he loves to come and rest his head on your chest and stare intently into your eyes with complete devotion. Cosmo goes to daycare a couple of days a week just because he's very playful and I thought he would enjoy it, but he is more than happy to chill at home with his dog friends, has absolutely 0 destructive tendencies and I can see on my cameras that when he's home for a few hours he will either play with his toys or go and have a nap in his crate or on the sofa.
He is vocal while he is playing but he never barks at the doorbell or sounds outside so he would probably be a great apartment dog. He is great with everyone he meets and loves to come along in the car to run errands with me. Cosmo is fab off leash and loves exploring but he doesn't have a ton of stamina on leash and starts to flag after about 30 or 40 mins or so, so he doesn’t particularly need a very athletic family although I'm sure when he is living in a place that isn't 95% humidity half the time he would be happy with longer walks when there is time but it isn´t a necessity for him. We have a cat that lives in the plant pot outside our front door and he is excited to see her but has a healthy respect for her claws and they haven't interacted much besides her hissing at him but I'm sure he would do well with a friendly cat. His only weird quirk that we believe could be linked somehow to brain trauma is that he takes a couple of minutes extra to chew his food and gets stressed if he can see other dogs while he is eating, I just pop his bowl in the other room or in his crate and that's the only adjustment he needs.

VINCENT
Vincent is a 6 month old 10kg mexican special who was dumped inside our front door in a plastic bag with his 4 siblings when he was only around 10 weeks old. He was the runt of the litter at only 1kg and was completely emaciated and unfortunately tested positive for giardia and Parvo Virus, he was not even able to lift his head let alone walk or stand but we remained hopeful that we could save him and thankfully he didn't only survive (as did all of his siblings) but he thrived!

Today Vincent is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
More about vincent
Vincent absolutely loves other dogs and will play with anyone he meets but he spends a lot of time with our older grumpy dogs so he understands when to back off if the other dogs dont feel like playing and will wander around the house and garden entertaining himself quite happily. He is very food motivated and learns quickly! He has only been learning to walk outside for the past month because we were so focused on making sure he was 100% healthy but his leash training has been going absolutely fantastically and he already loves his walks and running around at the beach or river. He is still a little apprehensive sometimes of loud traffic but he is such a quick learner we have 0 worries about his confidence. He lives with 10+ dogs and 1 cat and doesnt mind the cat (although she is old and doesn´t run around much) and has done great with the kids that he has met (around age 7). He is so beautiful (and he knows it) and loves to strut up to people in the park to see if they will compliment him. Vincent is very scrappy and fun and will be an amazing dog for a family who is ready for a charming and charismatic new addition.

DAISY
FROM UNCERTAIN BEGINNINGS TO JOYFUL DISCOVERIES
Daisy’s life began in the shadows - hidden away in a dark, cramped backyard where people had her parents as breeding machines. She shared her space with nearly 30 other chihuahuas who lived in heartbreaking conditions, locked in cages 24/7 while the greedy backyard breeders cashed in on their suffering. Her luck changed at a few months old when a long-time animal rescuer Karla heard about their situation; she didn’t hesitate and alerted local authorities, who stepped in and discovered the truth. The backyard breeder was fined, and thanks to Karla’s courage and big heart, custody of all 30 dogs was transferred to her. With help from generous donations, every dog received full vet care and was spayed or neutered, so they could finally begin a new chapter. Being just a puppy, Daisy was adopted by an adult couple, and all seemed to be a happy ending but suddenly, their living situation changed when their granddaughter moved into the house and started abusing the dog; they decided to rehome her and there she was, looking for a home again.
Today Daisy is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about daisy
Daisy is a chihuahua female about 2 years old and weights 4 kilos. Daisy is a bright, curious, and loving pup who’s the perfect mix of affectionate and independent. She is small but mighty, especially when playing tug-of-war with her favorite toys (some bigger than she is!). Sharing is caring, and Daisy proves it; she happily shares her toys and food with her foster siblings and even snuggles up in a crate with them at night. Every morning, she is the first to greet you with happy tail wags, ready for a day of fun! She is still getting used to walking on a leash and can be a little skittish, but she is learning to love her daily strolls, especially when she gets to stop and smell the flowers. Daisy has been showered with love in her foster home, but now she’s ready for the best part: finding her very own FURever family!

MIKE
MIKE IS STILL WAITING BUT HE HASN'T LOST HOPE
Rescued from the streets as a puppy, Mike spent his first 2 years in the local government shelter, watching others leave while he stayed behind. At first, he would cower in the corner of his cage and was afraid of people and other dogs but as time passed, his true personality blossomed. He soon became a favorite of the volunteers and staff with his smile and his friendliness, even with being in a cage for 23 ½ hours a day; unfortunately, most people looking to adopt were looking for other sizes, ages or colors of dogs. Most agree that black dogs do tend to get overlooked in shelters. Some think it’s because it can be difficult to photograph and to capture their expressions, while others think there is a stigma. Thankfully, this guy never lost hope, even after 3 years of waiting.

Today Mike is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about mike
Mike is a classic mix breed male about 4 years old and weights approximately 20 kilos. He is a happy, friendly boy who loves people of all ages, he just likes a bit of a slow approach when meeting new friends. Mike is wonderful with other dogs, shares his toys and food without a fuss, and even respects cats (though he’s a little curious about them!). Loud noises do not scare him, he is a medium/high energy guy, and he lives for car rides…I am sure he is wondering where he is going and what exciting thing, he will experience next. His life outside the shelter has been all about firsts, and he seems to look forward to each of them.  He would do great in an active home, going on hikes and would make a spectacular adventure buddy. Mike is a sweetheart, with his big smile and even bigger heart and now, he just needs someone to take him on the ultimate ride, to his forever home. Please help us to make that happen by sharing his album!

CHENEY
HE BEAT THE ODDS...NOW HE'S READY TO BE YOURS
Similar to his sister Lucy, we are not exactly sure how this Cheney ended up in the overcrowded government shelter, but what we do know is that he deserved a second chance. When a privately owned shelter was asked to take in a few dogs to help ease the city shelter’s load, this boy and his sister came along for the ride. Malnourished and battling anaplasma (a tick-borne illness that’s easy to treat with antibiotics), he just needed some TLC, antibiotics, and lots of cuddles, to become a healthy pup.

Today Cheney is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about cheney
Cheney is a Terrier mix male about a year old and weights 6.5 kilos. Cheney is a handsome pup who LOVES people of all ages once he has a chance to get comfortable with them. He starts off shy but doesn’t take long to warm up and then is ready to start asking for your attention. Cheney gets along greatly with other dogs and he’s sociable, playful, and loves car rides and daily walks (especially when he gets to say hi to new furry friends along the way). While he might be a bit unsure around bigger dogs at first, he does warm up to them. He likes to play tough guy and bark at new visitors, but don’t be fooled; he is a big softie at heart and turns into a cuddle bug in no time. Cheney is also past the puppy chewing stage and absolutely adores lounging on the sofa. He is learning that food is always coming, but he still likes to protect his meals. Once his bowl is empty, he is all about playtime and sharing toys with his doggy friends. We think Cheney would be happiest in a home with kids and maybe another dog his size — someone to play with, but not big enough to overwhelm him.

AKINA
FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Akina’s story starts in a place where no pup should ever be born; a remote construction site, where her mom was abandoned while pregnant. Kind workers fed her scraps during the day, but when the tools were put away and the site emptied, she was left all alone. With no shelter, no support, and nothing but her strength, the brave mama gave birth to six tiny puppies and fought to keep them safe. But hidden far from help, the little family was invisible. Days passed and eventually the workers noticed that one puppy had passed on and another had gone missing. They understood that the family needed help immediately. When word reached Claudia, she did not think twice, she rushed in and rescued the survivors. The four puppies started getting the love and care they had never known, and the momma was adopted by a local woman that is very involved in animal rescue.

Today Akina is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about akina
Akina is about 9 months old, weighs around 10.6 kilos, and is a very desirable mutt cuteness. Akina is a bright, playful puppy with a heart full of love and curiosity. She adores people of all ages, whether they are familiar faces or new friends visiting the shelter. Confident and brave, Akina is not bothered by loud noises like traffic, thunderstorms, or fireworks; she takes everything in stride with her tail wagging. She absolutely loves playing with the other dogs and still has all the joyful puppy energy that makes every day an adventure. Long walks on the leash, fun car rides, and exploring new places are some of her favorite things. When the excitement winds down, she cannot get enough affection. She thrives on hugs, gentle words, and the feeling of being cherished. We are not sure yet how Akina feels about cats, but we would be happy to introduce her to them if you would like to know. What we do know is that she is ready to bring endless love and happiness into the right home. Akina is just a puppy, and her whole life is ahead of her so she is ready for a future filled with warmth, joy, and the kind of care every puppy deserves.

CLEO
FROM LOST AND ALONE TO SAVED AND LOVED
Laura was having lunch at the food court of a busy mall when she noticed a little dog darting between tables, clearly terrified and completely out of place. Unable to stand by and watch, she jumped up to help. Soon, three security guards joined in, but rather than trying to help the pup, they were more concerned with chasing her out of the mall altogether. With heavy traffic just outside, Laura knew she could not let that happen. Thankfully, two young girls stepped in to help her corner the frightened dog and get her to safety. Laura searched everywhere for her family, asking around the mall, posting photos online, and hoping someone would come forward. Days turned into weeks, but no one ever claimed her. She was taken to the vet, started her health protocols, and is preparing for a fresh start—a chance to finally know what it means to be loved and protected.

Today Cleo is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about cleo
Cleo is a Min Pin Chiweenie mix about 9 months old and weighs around 5 kilos. Cleo is a happy, confident, and clever little puppy with a huge spirit packed into her tiny body. She is the kind of dog who fills every moment with joy, always ready to give and receive love. Her days are full of play with her foster siblings, and when she is finally tired, she picks the funniest places to nap, sometimes sprawled across her foster dad’s sandals, other times curled up with her head resting on another dog’s leg or tummy, but she does not like to be crated. Cleo never misses a meal and often tries to “help” the other dogs finish theirs (though they usually remind her with a little growl that their food is off-limits!). She adores her daily walks, soaking up every sight and sound like it is the best adventure in the world. At bedtime, she likes to sleep in her little bed on top of the big bed, just to be sure she is close to her pack. This sweet, funny girl is ready to bring endless happiness and love to a forever family. If you are looking for a pup who will fill your life with laughter, cuddles, and companionship, Cleo is waiting to meet you.

BIMBA
HAVE YOU MET BIMBA?? WHY NOT??
She is a beautiful 6 year old (approx) mix that loves to go on leashed walks and free play in a safe space. She is very smart & willing to learn & please. She is a little goofy when meeting new dogs because she's so excited, but with a little practice & training she should get better.  She cannot be in a home with small dogs or cats as she is ABSOLUTELY not a fan. Bimba is currently living in the mountains of Puerto Vallarta in a shelter, thanks to the generous support of a local volunteer, but it's time for this young lady to get that next chance at her FurEver home or possibly a foster home to help her on her journey.

Today Bimba is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about bimba
Juanita saw this beautiful dog near her home late at night and she noticed the dog was scared and was trying to hide from two unknown men. Juanita called her and she came to her right away, when the men saw she was with somebody they left without saying a word so Juanita believed they had bad intentions. The pup had a collar on but no tag; Juanita figured the dog was trying to escape from a bad situation, so she decided to help her and took her in. Once she got the chance to check her, she was sure her new rescue had been neglected since she was underweight, her skin was in bad condition, missing hair in some spots, was filthy, had long nails and was full of fleas and ticks. She also looked like she had recently been lactating so she may have been used for illegal breeding. The next morning, Juanita reached out for help via Facebook groups which Carmen & Claudia saw. They stepped in taking her to the Vet where tests were run, and medications were given, and she was ready for a new start.

Bimba is a beautiful American Staffordshire Terrier mix about 4.5 years old. She weights approximately 28 kilos. Bimba has greatly improved since her rescue, she is a confident girl now that enjoys her daily walks on a leash. She is playful and loves being off leash in safe spaces. She gets a little hyper when there are larger groups of dogs, but she does great with 1 or a maximum of 2 medium to large dogs. Bimba is not very fond of small dogs, especially louder ones, so she needs a home without any small dogs or cats. Bimba has medium energy and is super affectionate with her humans. She also enjoys being lazy at home in a large doggy bed. She loves squeaky toys, plush toys and loves laying in the sun whenever possible. She is not used to spending long periods of time in a crate. We think Bimba would enjoy and benefit from some basic obedience classes as to keep her active and learning.

Her ideal owners would be a family with teenagers or a couple with no kids (and no plans to have any). If the owners have had experience with similar medium to large breeds like her, Bimba would benefit from their leadership and guidance to become the best dog she can be.

RICA
Sometimes it’s hard to believe a story, even when you live through it. There was a text about a dog that a friend of a Canadian volunteer wanted to help. Neither knew where I lived, but they reached out asking for support. Texts went back and forth, location of the dog, photos and information. A plan was being discussed, what could be done, when and how. The group lost sight of the dog, time passed, and everyone was moving forward…including the dog. No one knows how it happened, but the stray dog from the photo walked 2.5 km from where the photo was taken to my garage within the hour. We happened to be at the garage door, a fluke, someplace we don’t spend much time, but as the dog walked up the driveway chins hit the floor. That dog had no way of knowing who I was or where I lived, but she found her way to my home. To say this girl is smart is clearly an understatement. She had a place to sleep for the night (quarantined from the other dogs in care) and then was off to the vets the next day. She was negative for the worst, positive for the common issues of street dogs in PV and onto a brighter future. Posts were made to find her family, but no one stepped forward. It was time to accept that Costa Rica (Rica to her friends) needed help to find her new family.
Today Rica is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about rica
Rica is a beautiful mix that is approximately 2.5 years old and now weighs 27 kilos. This sweet and loving girl likes humans of all ages as well as the rest of the dogs in the shelter, however, she does not like cats. She gets nervous and stressed with loud noises, thunderstorms and fireworks but she enjoys meeting other dogs when going out on her daily walks. Rica can stay alone for some time and has not shown any destructive behavior. Sometimes she does not realize how strong she is and plays rough with other dogs, but she is obedient, so a quick “no” will stop her. She is spoiled and sometimes will pretend she cannot hear you calling her until you start talking sweet in a loving voice to her. Rica would love to start living her life to her full potential and she needs a family for that. Please share her album so that everyone knows this sweet pup is looking for a great place to call home.

WERA
A HEART FULL OF LOVE WAITING FOR HOPE
Wera’s story is one of resilience. Her family moved away, taking everything with them—except her. Left alone in an empty house, scared and hungry, she cried for help until kind neighbors called for rescue. When Wera was finally freed, she was terrified—of people, of other dogs, of the world. But thanks to Irina, her dedicated foster mom, Wera has learned that love still exists. With good food, gentle hands, and patient care, she has blossomed into the sweet and loyal pup she was meant to be. As she has gained confidence, she started wagging her tail more and regularly shows us the joyful dog she has become.
Today Wera is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about wera
Wera is a Mexican mixed breed (the best of all) female dog about 2.5 years old and weighs 13.25 kilos. Wera adores people of all ages, gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats, and is always excited for her daily walks where she can make new furry friends in the neighborhood. Once timid and unsure, Wera has blossomed into a confident and social dog who no longer fears loud noises or unfamiliar situations. She enjoys sharing her food with her four-legged housemates and fits right in with both dogs and cats. Whether she’s lounging on the sofa, playing with her favorite toys, or eagerly wagging her tail at mealtime, Wera’s joy is contagious. She would thrive in a home with other dogs to keep her company and continue her journey of happiness. more about lucy
Lucy is a mixed breed female dog about a year old and weights approximately 6.5 kilos. Lucy is a young pup with the sweetest heart that loves people of all ages but she’s a shy girl. She avoids new people and situations until she has a bit of time to get comfortable (and that doesn’t normally take too long). Lucy gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats. She is curious and sociable on her daily walks, always excited to say hello to fellow dogs. Loud noises don’t bother her, and she adores car rides, especially when they end with new places to sniff and explore. At the shelter, she does her best impression of a tiny protector and will bark when people arrive, but once she realizes they are friends, she quickly shifts into cuddle mode. She is not food possessive or sleeping area possessive and she shares toys with her shelter buddies. One of her quirkiest (and most adorable) habits…she gives gentle little nibbles to get your attention — it’s her special way of saying, “Hey, I love you!” We think Lucy would thrive in a home with children and possibly another dog to play with. She’s past the fragile puppy stage but still full of energy, affection, and charm.

YUYIN
FROM SHY PUP TO SNUGGLE PRO
From darkness to daylight, Yuyin’s journey has been nothing short of incredible. He was born into a backyard breeding operation where love did not exist, he spent his days in a tiny cage, surrounded by fear and neglect and just waiting for the female dogs to be ready so he can be once again a father on and on while the greedy backyard breeder cashed in on their suffering. But fate stepped in when Karla, a devoted rescuer, refused to look away. Thanks to her bravery, 30 chihuahuas, including Yuyin, were freed from a life of misery as she was awarded custody by the authorities. Once in her home, with gentle hands and open hearts, she and other volunteers nursed them back to health, showering them with care and the kindness they had never known.

Today Yuyin is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about yuyin
Yuyin is a Chihuahua male about 3 years old and weighs 5.5 kilos. Yuyin has come such a long way. From a shy little guy unsure of the world, he has blossomed into a sweet, playful soul in his foster home although he is still shy in new environments. His personality shines more each day, he loves peeking out from around corners with a cheeky grin, only to dash off like it is a game of tag. He still takes a bit to warm up to new people and situations, but his confidence has grown (and will continue to grow) as he spends more time in the world. When he is happy, he prances like a tiny horse, full of life and joy, ready to romp around with his siblings. Yuyin is a true cuddle bug at heart, he adores curling up next to his favorite person, gently resting his head on a hand as if to say, “do not stop loving me.” He shares his food and toys with ease and is learning to enjoy his daily walks, though loud noises still give him a bit of a scare. Whether he joins a home with a furry friend or soaks up all the attention as your one and only, Yuyin is ready to give his whole heart to someone special in his forever home; a place where belly rubs replace bars, and love is unconditional.

Simon is a short-haired Pointer mix about 7 months old, weighs around 14.5 kilos. This playful pup is a true social butterfly. He gets along beautifully with men, women, and children of all ages. He is also great with other dogs and, bonus...he even likes cats!  Whether he is romping around with his furry friends or soaking up attention from visitors, Simon’s friendly, easygoing nature always shines through. He is confident and curious, and loud noises like fireworks or thunderstorms do not faze him one bit. Simon loves car rides and looks forward to his daily walks outside the shelter, where he can sniff around and take in the world. Past his chewing phase, Simon is respectful of toys and food. He happily shares his bowl, his rope toy, and even his favorite nap spot with the other dogs. We believe Simon would thrive with an active, loving family, ideally one with a yard where he can run, splash around, and play to his heart’s content. He is still young and full of energy, always ready to chase a toy, jump with excitement, or cool off in the water. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate pup to complete your family, Simon is ready for you! You can also help him to find his home by sharing his story.

NEGRITA
THE RESCUED PUP LOOKING FOR A LOVING HOME
Negrita spent the first months of her life on the streets, scavenging for food in the trash and exposed to countless dangers. She was at risk of being hit by a car or falling into the wrong hands, but her fate changed when Irina saw her and couldn’t ignore her situation. Determined to give her a second chance, she took her in and began her transformation. When she was rescued, Negrita was in terrible condition—filthy, suffering from an eye infection, and severely malnourished. After a visit to the vet and several tests, the good news was that she had no serious illnesses, and with proper care, she could make a full recovery.

Today Negrita is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about negrita
Negrita is a happy and healthy pup. She is a mixed breed (the best kind), approximately 1.5 years old and weighs 14 kilos. She has a sweet and loving personality, though she may be a little shy at first, she quickly warms up and enjoys the company of people of all ages. She gets along well with other dogs and cats and remains calm even around loud noises. She has no problem sharing her food bowl and loves playing with her siblings and toys. Negrita is smart, well-balanced, and overall calm. She enjoys being around others but also values her alone time to relax. She can run off-leash and always comes back when Irina whistles for her. Negrita dreams of finding a loving and active family who will take her on adventures and show her the world she has yet to explore. Could your home be the perfect one for her?

BETITA
HOPE IN HER EYES: BETITA'S SEARCH FOR A FOREVER HOME
Street life is harsh—and for a puppy, it can feel impossible. Betita’s story began on the streets of Puerto Vallarta, dirty, alone, and malnourished at just four months old. She was rescued by the Green Patrol and brought to the government-run shelter, where she received her first life-changing bath, a full vet checkup, and treatment for parasites. Miraculously, she tested negative for the most serious illnesses. Though she faced some sickness in the stressful shelter environment, two months of attentive care and affection helped her regain her sparkle. Soon, Betita was adopted with another dog and cat— only to be returned just one week later when her adopters found three pets too much to handle.
Today Betita is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about betita
Betita is a sweet, beige tri-colored Shepherd mix of about 8 months and 12 kg. Betita’s eyes are the kind you can fall into—open, gentle, and full of hope. She adores people of all ages, greeting every visitor with wagging tail and a friendly nudge. In her foster home, she cozies up beside dogs and cats alike, proving time and again how kind and social her spirit is. Every day brings adventure: car rides filled with curiosity, walks that make her tail wag, and playful romps with her favorite toys. She’s a smart girl who’s already mastered basic manners and shows such eagerness to please. Betita would shine as the beloved only dog or alongside a calm, welcoming companion. She thrives in a home where kids are part of the fun and snuggle sessions are plentiful. What she craves most is a patient, loving family who will give her the attention, structure, and warmth she deserves. Let’s help Betita find that forever home she longs for. Please share her story—this gentle, affectionate, and hopeful girl is ready to meet you and make your house a loving home.

SONNY
A SECOND CHANCE FOR THIS SWEETHEART
There were 2 lab mix puppies that had a nice life with a kind owner. When he suddenly and unexpectedly passed away, everything changed. They went from having a home to living on the streets. The people in the neighborhood did the best they could to provide food and shelter for them. Everyone loved these dogs, but no one could take them into their home. Donna was staying in the area, learned about the situation, and began to look for a solution. Thanks to Donna’s efforts & her commitment, Sonny and Cher got the soft landing they needed. They were fully vetted and went to a foster home where they could decompress and gain the confidence they had lost during all the difficult changes they had experienced.

Today Sonny is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about sonny
Sonny is a golden labrador mix. He is approximately 3 years old and weighs 27 kilos. Sonny is looking for a special someone to give him the loving home he deserves! This sweet and social pup enjoys the company of adults and teens, and while he is a little shy when meeting new people, once he warms up, he is all about love and loyalty. He greets visitors at the shelter, plays wonderfully with other dogs, and has no problem sharing his toys, food, and cozy sleeping spots. Loud noises don’t bother him, and he is working on feeling more comfortable during car rides, so he does not get dizzy. Cats stress him out, so a feline-free home would be best. With patience and love, Sonny will blossom into the perfect adventure buddy—ready to explore the world by your side. Please share Sonny’s story to help him find his family. The more people that know about him, the greater chance he has to find a forever home.

MAYA
People relinquish their pets for various, often heartbreaking reasons, including cost of care, insufficient housing options for pet owners and access to veterinary care. However, quite often people see their pets as a commodity and do not take enough responsibility to get the basic care done, including spay/ neuter. This ends up adding newborn puppies to the already problematic overpopulation.  The easiest way to deal with this is to put them in a bag or a box and dispose of them. This was sadly the case with Maya, who was thrown into an empty lot along with her sister and brother. Claudia was not sure how long they had been there trying to survive without food and water to the careless looks of people passing by, but she cared enough to pick them up and bring them to the shelter where she arranged for a vet visit. They were filthy, full of ticks and flies and had skin infections but fortunately, none of the scary illnesses were present. After initial care and treatment, they were ready to leave their past and look to a brighter future.
Today Maya is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about maya
Maya is a beautiful mutt, about 7 months old and weighs approx. 13 kilos. Despite being a puppy, Maya behaves well and gets along with humans of all ages. She gets along with the rest of the dogs in the shelter as well as the cats. She is happy to share her food with other dogs and is not possessive of her toys or sleeping area. Staff at the shelter are working on her potty training, walks on leash and some commands. So far, she is doing good with the first two and has learned what “no” and “ven” (come) means. Maya can go to a family with other dogs to play with or no dogs so she can get all the love for herself.

SEBASTIAN
THE BEARDED ADVENTURER LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME
They were driving back from a trip to San Sebastian, a small mountain town just outside of Puerto Vallarta. The winding road has many stretches where there are no buildings, no people and no place to stop. In the middle of nowhere, they saw a small pup on the road. He was out of place and in trouble…the dangers of the road, no water, no food and nothing in the area. They made the quick decision to stop and help. The friendly pup just a few months old and was more than happy to meet the new people and catch a ride. They arrived in PV and started working on a plan. They took him to the vets for a safe place to stay and to get all the testing & care needed. After a few weeks, a foster home was found, and this adorable guy got his second chance at a great life.
Today Sebastian is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about sebastian
Sebastian is likely a wire haired terrier mix. He is now about 8 months old and weighs 12.5 kilos. He didn’t have a beard, there was no reason to think he would have a beard, there were no mom and dad dogs with beards we could reference, but shortly after meeting him, we knew this puppy was going to have a beard and it’s a great one! Sebastian has a lovely personality and seems to get along with everyone, on leash, off leash, two-legged, four-legged, even tripods, this guy gets along with all of them. He’s playful but cautious with small people, having learned how to play gently from the dogs in his foster home, when he was still small. Do you like food? So does Sebastian! Think of that, already something in common! He sits for his morning and evening meals, but only after demonstrating the joy he takes in the whole process, by jumping up to eye level and smiling while he looks you in the eye.
Sebastian is comfortable in a crate but prefers to be out with the rest of the pack. One moment you’re thinking about putting him in the crate to sleep and the next moment he magically appears, already snoring, in the bed. He observes and he learns, he is one smart pup. An ideal home for him would have another dog, kids or active adults that want to include him in their daily lives. This boy is social and wants to be a part of whatever is going on, but he’s also able to entertain himself (he will throw his yak bone in the air and then pounce on it over and over again with pure joy). He is house-trained, LOVES toys and dog beds and makes a pretty handsome Elf around Christmas time, without too much complaint. He is ready to find his forever family and we would love your help sharing his story so they know he’s looking.

We would like to introduce everyone to adoptable girl Queen! She is currently in foster in Victoria  This sweet girl is looking for her forever home—but there’s one special requirement: she needs a doggy sibling ! Queen thrives with other dogs around. She’s playful, affectionate, and feels most confident when she has a furry friend by her side. If you have a pup looking for a new bestie, Queen might be the perfect match!
Today Queen is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about queen
Queen is just over a year old, is around 16 pounds & is likely a chihuahua/ dachshund mix of sorts. She is great with dogs but has been having a little too much fun chasing the cat in her foster home so she would do best with no cats. She spent lots of time with kids down in Mexico so is kid friendly. Her foster days aside from wanting to chase the kitty she is pretty perfect ! She has settled in well and is a very friendly girl.

COPITO
Las Juntas y Los Veranos is a little town south of Puerto Vallarta where the main highway crosses. Houses and stores are lined along the road, too close to traffic. Unfortunately, dogs are allowed to freely roam the place resulting in frequent accidents due to the speed of which the cars go by. There was a construction site where workers were sharing their lunch with two stray dogs. They put some cardboard and old t-shirts in a corner for them to stay the night, but with the construction done, the dogs were left “homeless” as none of the workers were able to take them home with them. They stayed in the area in great danger of being run over, so someone from the town made calls looking for help and Vanessa, a long-time rescuer with a huge heart, was contacted. Although she did not have room in her house to take them in, she still went to pick them up, thinking she would figure out what to do later. She has limited resources, but she had taken the responsibility, so she asked Angel if he could help and thankfully, he agreed. Before moving in, Copito was taken to the vet, where tests were done for the scary illnesses, which fortunately all came back negative. He was malnourished and had ehrlichiosis (caused by ticks), so he was prescribed antibiotics and vitamins to start his health protocol and off he went on the way to a better life.
Today Copito is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about copito
Copito is a Husky / Australian Sheperd mix, he is about 4 years old and weighs 27 kilos. Copito is a gorgeous boy that loves adults, teenagers, and children alike. He especially loves female adults and flirts with them. We do not know if he gets along with cats, but can be tested, if needed. He gets along with the rest of the dogs in the facility and has no problem sharing his food bowl and sleeping areas with them. He loves his daily walks and sometimes pulls and gets too excited when he sees some of his friends. He is very social and active; his ideal day would be out on the grounds playing with other dogs. He has learned to sit and wait his turn when food is being served. We think he would do great with an active family and possibly another female dog to play with.

STELLA
One will never understand how some people can be heartless enough to see animals’ lives as an inanimate, disposable item. We can only guess this dog once had a “family”, irresponsible enough not to get her spayed and consequently, at her very young age she got pregnant. Puppies are always cute and desirable, but they could not wait for her to finish nursing them when they put her in the car, drove around and threw her out the window at a gas station located on a busy highway in a northern state in Mexico. She stayed there for days, confused and looking for her puppies until her mammary glands started bleeding since she was not nursing. The staff at the gas station fed her and had water available for her. They did their best, but she needed more help than they could give. When Laura stopped to get gas on her long road trip between homes and she saw the dog, she knew she had to take her otherwise she would either be run over by a car or eventually get pregnant again. Yep, you read that correctly. She was in the middle of a multi day road trip and rescued a dog – amazing people do amazing things. Along the way, she stopped to have her checked by a vet, did tests and get shots so the pup would be allowed to cross the border. Once at home, she settled down and realized she was safe and ready for a brighter new start. Not a road trip any of them will soon forget.

Today Stella is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about stella
Stella is a beautiful cattle dog mix; she is 2 years old and weighs 15.4 kilos. Since coming into care, Stella’s personality has flourished. She has become the puppy she was denied being. This little girl is very active and loves playing with her (bigger and smaller) foster sisters and sometimes can be quite tough and annoying to the pack. She is smart and loving, she enjoys spending time with everybody, and especially loves getting affection from humans. She can be protective of her family (she is a cattle dog after all) but has never been aggressive. Stella gets excited when she sees the leash and jumps in anticipation, but after a few steps she calms down and walks well on the leash. In her personal opinion, stuffed toys look better without eyes, ears or anything sticking out of them, so she makes sure she fixes that as quickly as possible. At night, she makes sure she warms up her foster dad’s side of the bed and reluctantly moves to the middle when he goes to bed. Stella sleeps through the night and is the first one to say good morning with a kiss. We think she will do good in a home with kids and/or other dogs to play with or, if being the only dog, to have an active human with a big, fenced backyard to burn some of her energy.

BOB MARLEY
A TRUE SURVIVOR WITH A HEART FULL OF LOVE
He had a family and then they moved away. He was left behind – I simply cannot comprehend this part of the story and that will never change. A neighbor boy started to feed the dog, but the family didn’t have the ability to take him into their home nor to care for him, and really didn’t have the money to feed him, but they did it anyway. That kid (and his family) are the heroes. They started reaching out for help as they knew what they could do was only temporary, and Claudia agreed to take the pup into her care. After his vet visit showed he was generally healthy and just needed treatment for anaplasma, he returned to quarantine at the shelter to get a much-needed bath and grooming session. In honor of his dreadlocks, we named him Bob Marley and he’s blossomed into an affectionate, resilient boy.

Today Bob Marley is in his FURever home and we wish him a lifetime filled with love and joy!

RUBY
FROM HEARTBREAK TO HOPE: SHE'S LOOKING FOR A HOME
One day, a security guy saw when she was cruelly thrown out of a truck. She ran as fast as she could to catch up to the vehicle, but they never waited for her. Alone and scared, she wandered the streets of the neighborhood where she was tossed aside. She faced rejection, went hungry, and carried the scars of a past filled with abuse—wounds on her body, marks on her neck, and even a missing toe on her back paw. Then a kind-hearted person from the neighborhood took her in, offered food, love, and a second chance. She was checked by a vet and cared for but sometimes fear got the best of her and she would run away, but she always knew where to return and slowly learned she was safe. Now she's fully recovered and has a beautiful smile that could grace any magazine cover.
Today Ruby is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about ruby
Ruby is a Terrier mix about 3 years old and weighs approximately 22 kilos. Despite everything she has endured, she still loves humans of all ages. She has chosen forgiveness and shows nothing but love. She gets along well with all the other dogs at the shelter - even does well with cats. She warmly welcomes every visitor, making sure they know she’s there by offering them love and hoping to get a few scratches in return. Ruby is incredibly gentle, never having issues sharing her food, toys, or sleeping space. She is playful yet obedient, full of life yet well-mannered. She adores her twice-a-day walks outside the shelter and loves playing with her favorite ball. Ruby is looking for a family that will love her and cherish her the way she deserves. Please share her story so that they know she is looking for them and is ready to start her next chapter!

LOLO
THE ULTIMATE BUDDY, READY TO BRING JOY TO YOUR HOME
A past Mexpup adopter was in town visiting her parents In Puerto Vallarta when she spotted the little family and realized just how bad their situation was. A mom, dad, and three tiny puppies were living in a neighbor’s yard, struggling to survive. They weren’t wanted, weren’t cared for. She struck up a conversation with the neighbors and quickly confirmed what she already suspected: the dogs weren’t being looked after, and no one really cared what happened to them. That was all she needed to hear. She reached out to us knowing they could help give this little crew the second chance they so desperately needed. The “owners” surrendered them, next step was a vet visit, and now a fun holiday got a bit more exciting as they had foster puppies! After a few weeks in their care, it was time to travel home and so the four-legged family moved into a new foster home to continue their recovery. Now, thanks to her kindness (and her family’s support), these pups are finally getting the chance they deserve. TARIK
A kind person living in the small village of Quimixto kept seeing this stray, and clearly abused dog. She had burns on her body, was malnourished and infested with ticks and fleas. She did what she could, but needed to find her a refuge, where she could recover. Thankfully, she found Claudia. She reached out and sure enough, with her huge heart, Claudia said yes and welcomed in this little angel. The first stop was for a very much needed bath, followed by a vet visit where tests were done and after finding out she tested negative for all scary illnesses; she started her health protocol with hopes of finding her very own family.

Today Tarik is in her FURever home and we wish her a lifetime filled with love and joy!
more about tarik
Tarik is a beautiful hound mix; she is approximately 2 and a half years old and weighs 23 kilos. Tarik has been at the shelter for over a year, and she is now one confident and happy girl. She gets along with humans of all ages as well as the rest of the dogs. She loves her daily walks outside the shelter and reacts well when meeting other dogs on the street. She likes going out on adventures when riding in the car and does not get bothered with fireworks or thunder storms. She is not food possessive and has no problem sharing her toys or sleeping area with other dogs. She is energetic, so a home with another dog and a yard would be great. Here’s the thing about the yard, you’re going to have to teach her not to dig. She loves water and walks, so an active family and regular adventures would be a great fit for this precious girl.
