TEPITON
Tepitón is a teeny but mighty little 2.6kg male chihuahua. He was found hanging around the trash in one of Puerto Vallarta’s nearby towns and was rescued by our good friend Berenice in the area who unfortunately didn´t have the money or resources to keep him. He is probably just under 1 year old and is so happy and incredibly dog social. He loves meeting dogs of any shape or size and lives with 8 other dogs from 4lb chihuahuas to a 150lb Great Dane. His best friend who he plays nonstop with is a 23kg male shepherd mix. He loves adventure and is a pretty active little guy, he regularly walks 5-7km in the mornings and is always up for a game of tug. He is super friendly with humans but he prefers that strangers don´t immediately grab his head and lift it to theirs to kiss him, he will be on someone's lap within the first 3 minutes of meeting them kissing them of his own accord, but he will wriggle away if his head is immediately grabbed and manipulated within seconds of a stranger meeting him.
Tepitón has a charm that is difficult to describe, he loves it when you sing and if he is relaxing on his dog bed and his foster mom is on the sofa and starts singing he will run as fast as he can and jump onto her shoulder and then lay himself along her throat while she sings. He is so happy about life and being around him you can´t help but feel some of his joy.
We believe Tepitón would be happiest with another dog in the home as he loves nothing more than playing with his friends. Other than that, he is good with sensible kids, would be great as part of a family, and is happy if a little hesitant interacting with cats. He doesn´t bark when people come in the house and is happy being left alone with the other dogs to play and snooze.
The adoption fee for Tepitón is $600 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Tepitón to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

PLATANO
Platano was born in the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, in one of the poorest areas around. He was born to a dog that had a family, irresponsible enough not to have her spayed so she got pregnant (unknown how many times). This time she had a litter in which Platano was one of the puppies. The momma was neglected, in bad shape, underweight and full of fleas and ticks so the puppies would have suffered the same fate if a kind soul would not have picked them up and offered them a better chance of life. Nayeli picked the puppies up, took the whole family to the Vet where they were treated for internal and external parasites and the momma was spayed. After running tests to make sure they did not carry any scary illnesses, the puppies went to the shelter for a new start.
Platano is a handsome mix breed (one of the best breeds) about 14 months old. He weights approximately 35 kilos.
Platano is very friendly with all people and loves to please so he tends to get more pets than others. Although he likes little kids, he could be a little bit strong when playing, so we would suggest a home with older kids if any. He gets along with all the dogs and cats in the shelter and enjoys the activity going on, but also loves his alone time and going out for his walks; on the leash (which he does very well). Did we mention he loves car rides ? When someone new comes in the shelter or when he enters a new place, he takes his time to check out the new humans and/or surroundings before coming up to greet them or settling. He is a calm dude that loves humans and will make a great addition to a family.
The adoption fee for Platano is $500 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

MORA
Alma was contacted by a young lady who saw a dog giving birth to 10 puppies at an empty lot in one of the neighborhoods on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta. Alma has a group that raises funds to help feed and pay medical expenses for strays but has no shelter therefore she was unable to take them. She asked the lady if she would place them in her property (a building materials warehouse) and her group would provide food and vet care for all; fortunately, the young lady agreed. The momma (named Milagros) was malnourished and weak. Two out of the ten puppies did not survive but the rest of them were born healthy. Alma arranged for the Vet she works with to check them and start their health protocol. The place they were at was not ideal, but they were not on the street and had a better chance of being adopted. Mora and her brother Bear were the first ones to be given a life-changing opportunity when they were taken out of there to be fostered in a home.
Mora is a beautiful Pinscher mix female puppy; she is 6 months old and weighs approximately 7 kilos.
Mora gets along well with adults, children of all ages, and other dogs of all sizes. She is a high-energy puppy who thinks everything in life is play-play. She loves toys and enjoys playing tug-a-war and when she gets tired of playing, she grabs her toy and lays down with her head on it. She uses the doggie door to go in and out of the house which she flies through. She is alert to noises outside the house and would come let us know if there is something unusual going on. She sleeps in her crate throughout the night and takes naps during the day on the couch, preferably listening to her favourite TV show. She is not Alpha, but she wants to be the leader when playing with her brother. Mora will be mid-size and would do good in a home with a yard to run around and burn all her energy, ideally with a dog sibling to play with but she wouldn’t mind getting all the love and attention for her only.
The adoption fee for Mora is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Mora to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

FOX
When Nayeli went for a shopping trip to a street mall in Puerto Vallarta, she saw this dog running in distress, disoriented, thirsty and hungry. The pup was trying to get close to people looking for anyone that would provide her with some food and water, however, nobody seemed to notice her. Nayeli knew that if she didn’t take her to the shelter, the dog would become one of the hundreds of dogs living in the streets. She got the pup and off they drove to the Vet’s office where she was checked and fortunately, besides being underweight and filthy, she tested negative for all scary illnesses. She was treated for parasites, given vitamins and a much-needed wash and off she went to a secure place where she did not have to search for her food.
Fox is a loving Lab mix female dog, about 1.5 years old and weights approximately 20 kilos.
Fox is an extremely affectionate girl. She has so much love to give, and she has a very special soul. She will shower her people with kisses and is very sweet when meeting strangers. She gets nervous when she hears loud noises and tends to bark at people when riding in the car or at dogs when going out on walks. With her history, it isn’t a surprise that she can be a bit protective of her food bowl, her sleeping area and her toys. She lives with about 50 other dogs and just gives a little growl, so they know when she needs her space; however, most of the time she is happy and enjoys being around all the dogs. She just needs a break from them sometimes (I feel like that around humans sometimes too ). She walks well on a leash and loves her daily walks.
The adoption fee for Fox is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you would like Fox to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]

MIA
Two helpless puppies were found on the street., our guess is that whoever had the momma, was indifferent to their suffering and just carelessly dumped her littler. When found, Mia was malnourished, filthy and full of fleas; Nayeli knew she had to take the puppies into care. Mia was immediately taken to the Vet for a regular checkup as usual where tests were run, deworming was given and off she went to a safe place to recover and start a new life.
Mia is a highly desirable mutt (the best breed ever) mix with St Bernard about 6 months old. She weights approximately 20 kilos, and our guess is she has more growing to do.
Healthy now, Mia is a beautiful and happy puppy, very social and active; she loves her foster siblings and people visiting the shelter. She has been around cats and rather than being aggressive, she was scared of them. During her daily walks, she can’t help herself but get excited discovering the big world around her. She has lots of energy and when playing, she can be a bit rough not knowing how strong she can be so a family with little kids may not be her ideal home. Mia is a happy puppy that enjoys getting all the love and pets she can get.
The adoption fee for Mia is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

MARLEY
Late one night as Keely and her family were leaving a friend’s house, they noticed a sweet, scared, very skinny female dog leaving an empty lot in search of food. They had a bag of food in the car to feed strays, so they poured some for her to eat. She approached very cautiously, but desperate for a meal. As she got closer, it appeared that she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. They talked to the security in the area and were told that about a week or so ago some man had thrown her out of the car and left her after telling them he didn't care what happened to her. They could not just leave her, so they gained her trust and got her in the car to take home with them and once home they made a safe place for her to rest and eat before introducing her to their other 3 dogs and 2 cats. As she gained strength, she seemed to adjust easily to the other animals and people who came to the house even though they think she was abused, neglected, and never shown love or affection. When taken to the Vet the next day, he said that she had had a liter, but not recently. She was vaccinated, spayed, and is now in good health.
Marley resembles the Black Mouth Cur breed, is approximately 2 years old, and weighs 17 kilos.
She thrives with people around but grew exceptionally anxious when left alone so her foster family started to crate training her so that when they left, she could stay in a safe place for the short amount of time that no one was home. She now runs into her crate with a treat, when she knows they are getting ready to leave. She has a very gentle and loving nature and loves to play. As she has been nurtured back to health, she has shown she has a lot of strength and energy and would be a great companion for someone who lives an active lifestyle. She is house-trained if she can go outside and responds well to treats and verbal praise. She trains easily and loves to make her people happy. She just recently started to show signs of jealousy to their older, larger female dog in the house so they think it would probably do best if she goes to a home with smaller dogs or alone. She loves cats, kids, and people and plays nonstop with dogs that are smaller than her. She is ready for a life with a family that has as much love to give her as she has to give her family.
The adoption fee for Marley is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. If you are ready for Marley to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

SALLY
Just like a lot of people (unfortunately) who think owning a dog is a commodity, this irresponsible owner had a female dog that we could say had a home, if that meant having this person call her “his dog” with no further responsibility. The intact dog got pregnant the very first time she was in heat and later gave birth to 12 puppies in an empty lot however, due to the poor health condition she was in, most of the puppies didn’t make it. An AA group got a piece of land in the neighborhood and volunteers started building their new facility. They saw the momma and the few puppies and started feeding them and giving them love which made them not want to leave. As they built rooms and roofs, they were offered a bed, food, and fresh water every day. Irina, the group leader finally went to talk to the owner to request their release, to which he immediately agreed. Irina, who is a long-time dog rescuer, took them to get checked by a vet, where they had blood work done, got shots, and vitamins prescribed.
Sally is one of the puppies, she is a mixed breed female, about a year old, and weighs approximately 12 kilos.
Sally gets along well with adults, teenagers, and young children as well as other dogs and cats. She loves to welcome people visiting the AA premises and makes sure they pet her and give her some love on their way in. During heavy rains, she fears thunder and goes to her bed where she feels safe. She is “the good girl” of the pack, mellow (mid-energy) and loving, so having another dog in the home will be good for her but she can also be an only dog if taken out for daily walks (she does well on leash and loves her walks).
The adoption fee for Sally $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Sally to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

BONNIE
A passerby saw two pups by a trash can scavenging for food. He knew these young dogs were in trouble based on their physical condition along with the danger they were facing on the streets. He decided to do something to help them and started making calls until he reached Claudia and she agreed to take them on. She immediately took them to the Vet and thankfully, besides being filthy and full of ticks they were both healthy. They got started on their basic care and their new life.
Bonnie is a Black Mouth Cur mix female, about 8 months old and weights approximately 12.5 kilos.
Bonnie likes both male and female adults as well as children of all ages, she gets along with cats and the rest of the dogs in the shelter. Like a good puppy, she loves playing and having fun with everybody however she is one of the calmest puppies in the hood. She is learning commands such as “sentada” (sit), “ven” (come) and “no”. She will be fine in a low to medium activity home with children or adults only. She can be the only dog or an addition to the other family pets. Bonnie is a sweet dog who will be happy on her daily walks or playing in the backyard, occasionally going on adventures, but she is not fan of water adventures. We love how Bonnie has the look of a big dog, but in a small/medium sized body.
The adoption fee for Bonnie is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Bonnie to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]

The place they were at was not ideal, but they were not on the street and had a better chance of being adopted. Bear and his sister Mora were the first ones to be given a life-changing opportunity when they were taken out to be fostered in a home.
Bear is a lovely mix of huge ears and long legs; he is 6 months old and weighs approximately 6 kilos.
Bear gets along well with adults, children of all ages, and other dogs of all sizes. He is a high-energy puppy who likes to explore and play with his sister with whom he is most comfortable. They play with toys or chase each other in the yard. He uses the doggie door to go in and out of the house which he flies through. He is alert to noises outside the house and comes to let us know if there is something unusual going on. He sleeps in his crate throughout the night and takes naps during the day on the couch, preferably listening to his favourite TV show. He is a sweet boy who has realized that getting love and pets is the best thing after treats. He promises he will give you endless love and to prove that he proudly wears a heart-shaped mark on his chest. Bear would do well in a home with a yard to run around and burn all his energy, ideally with a dog sibling to play with but he wouldn’t mind getting all the love and attention for him only.
The adoption fee for Bear is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Bear to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].
BENJILUNA
Barbi and her family had just moved into the neighborhood and noticed a pup on the street. She slept outside every night, so it appeared that she was without a family. They asked around and were told she was a street dog, so they decided to take her into their home. They were just starting out again after some major challenges, so their resources were nil but that didn’t stop their big hearts from changing Benjiluna’s future. They had her for a few weeks when the surprise appeared. She was pregnant and that brought a whole new set of challenges. They loved this pup, but their landlords hadn’t been happy about 1 dog, so a momma and 2 puppies were well past their limit. They told Barbi to just put the puppies into the trash (insert choice curse words here) and that is when Barbi started looking for help. We didn’t have space, but we knew these two families needed help: both Barbi’s and Benjiluna’s. The fur family came into care immediately before any threats could be changed into action. First stop was the vet clinic for testing and assessment. Thankfully, momma, Channa and Virdi were in ok shape and ready to start the next step in their journey.
Benjiluna is a Westiepoo mix female, about 3 years old, and she weighs approximately 11 kilos.
This sweet dog has loads of energy although she is shy when first meeting people. She was probably denied a happy normal life growing up as fending for yourself on the streets isn’t easy and we’re not sure how old she was when discarded. Her first foster family had very young children and she did great with all of them. Once comfortable, she enjoys playing with everybody and we mean everybody that is humans (adults and children of all ages), cats, and the rest of the dogs in the shelter. She gets excited when she knows she is going out for a walk and does great when meeting other dogs during that time but since walks are not precisely play time, she gets into play mode with the other dogs when she goes back in the shelter. She can be a bit rough when playing but takes corrections well. Benjiluna also loves getting attention and pampering from people. She is not a big fan of water, but she loves going on adventures so we think an active family or one with another dog in the home will be great for her.
The adoption fee for Benjiluna is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. If you are ready for Benjiluna to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].
MARY JANE
She was just a puppy when she was gifted to the family. They already had another pup named Spider along with a few small children. They were a loving family with very limited resources. The pups had lots of fun and play time with the kids. They didn’t have much structure as they were allowed outside to walk themselves (and to rummage through the trash), but they did have lots of love and positive interactions at home. As time progressed, the basic needs of the pups proved too much for the family, and they asked for help. Thankfully, we were able to get them into care which started with basic testing, antiparasite medication and eventually vaccines.
Mary Jane is a beautiful mix of white dog (yep, that’s what we’re going with 😉) and at about a year old she weighs approximately 13 kilos.
Mary Jane is an easy-going girl who enjoys the company of both the other dogs and the cats in the shelter. She is past the puppy stage and does not show destructive behavior. She is active and loves playing with toys, especially squeaky toys. She also has learned commands such as “sentada” (sit), “quieta” (stay) and she shakes hands. She has no problem sharing food, toys, and her favorite relaxing and sleeping areas in the shelter with other dogs. When in her previous home, she played with very young children, which she still loves to do, so an active family with kids or teenagers would be great for her. She also enjoys going on adventures where she can run free. She would love to have another dog or cat companion in the house also.
The adoption fee for Mary Jane is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Mary Jane to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

TRIXI
As long as there is no real culture of spay/neuter, especially in places where people let their dogs roam free on the streets, dogs and cats will keep reproducing. This is one of those many sad stories where a female dog wandering the streets went into heat and soon enough, got pregnant. She survived by eating what some kind people would feed stray dogs as well as searching for food in the trash. The time came and she gave birth to 11 puppies, right there in an old, abandoned house. A kind lady in the neighborhood started to search for help and Nayeli got the call; she just couldn’t say no and welcomed the whole family into the shelter. After vet visits, shots, vitamins, and tests for scary illnesses, she made sure they were all healthy and ready for a life change. Trixi is one of the family members.
Trixi is a beautiful stray/mutt mix about 1.8 years old and weighs approximately 16.5 kilos.
Trixi is a docile girl; she loves adult men and women as well as young children. Although she has seen cats and has not reacted aggressively, she can be tested for socializing if required. She is on the quiet side and quite social, when she is around other dogs, she wants to play with them all, but will retreat if an alpha dog comes around. She is not protective of her food bowl, sleeping area, or toys which she happily shares with the others. She is past the chewing puppy phase. Trixi may seem timid at first when meeting new people, but she warms up fast and shows what a sweet and loving girl she is. She loves her daily walks outside the shelter, she walks well on a leash, and she also enjoys car rides. Trixi would be the perfect, low-energy dog for a family with children or adults only.
The adoption fee for Trixi is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Trixi to join your family, please submit an application found at mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

TOMAS
A very common way (wrongful also) to get rid of unwanted dogs is to abandon them tied to a tree, a fence, a power pole or whatever is accessible at the time. Unfortunately, this was the case of Tomas when he was first rescued; a lady saw him tied to a tree in the neighborhood park and after asking around to make sure the owner was not close by, she learned the person had tied him and left several hours before which made it clear to her that, he was not coming back. She untied the scared and shaking dog and took him home. Her intention was to adopt him if he would adapt to her dogs and family, which Tomas did nicely. He lived in what was supposed to be his forever home for about 9 months however, the lady’s daughter, lived with her and not having much to do started to get abusive with Tomas to the point that one day, she threw acid to his eyes. A neighbor learned about this and immediately got him out of there before any more harm was done, unfortunately that neighbor had a full house and was unable to take him in therefore she put him in a boarding facility where Tomas has been living ever since. She made sure he recovered from the treatment for his eyes (the damage is almost un-noticeable but he still needs to get lubricant drops to prevent irritation), was given shots and neutered.
Tomas is a handsome Border Collie Lab mix male dog, that is about 3 years old and weights approximately 21 kilos.
Tomas is a big goofy boy and despite having been betrayed and mistreated, he loves people and is very social with all the adults in the boarding facility; he can be tested with teenagers and younger kids if needed. He has been around cats and while he is curious and wants to play, he chases them without being aggressive. He does well with other dogs in off leash areas, will share toys and chill area but can be a little protective of his food if others come close while he is eating so if there were any other dog in the house, they would simply need to be fed in separate areas. He is a happy, active, and mentally healthy dog. He is very loving and takes new people and new situations very well. Tomas does want everyone to know he is there, so at first, he sometimes barks to demand attention. He does well in the car and very much enjoys his daily walks doing well on a leash. He has been left in his designated area in the boarding facility and has not shown any destructive behavior. He does respond to basic training like “Conmigo” (with me), “Sientate” (sit), “Hechate” (down), “Quieto” (stay), “Atras” (back), “Ven” (come) and “No, no”
The adoption fee for Tomas is $500 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Tomas to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

VIRDI
Claudia received a call from Barbi, asking for help for a momma dog and her two puppies. She was new in the neighborhood and had no financial resources but that did not stop her from taking the stray dog into her home when she was pregnant. Unfortunately, when the landlord found out she had the momma and newborn puppies in the house he asked to “get rid” of them immediately or empty the house. Barbi was desperate for help and Claudia accepted the momma Benjiluna and her two puppies, Channa and Virdi, into the shelter. She took them all to get checked; besides being malnourished, no scary illnesses were present. After regular Vet visits to check their health, they were vaccinated and eventually spayed/neutered. Virdi is a Westiepoo mix male, about 7 months old, and he weighs approximately 11 kilos. Virdi is a happy puppy who loves the company of humans and other dogs in the shelter. He enjoys playing with them all. He is confident and active so he adores his daily walks outside the shelter where he can say hi to the neighbors and get all the love and attention he can get from them. He loves going on adventures where he can run and enjoy the breeze, he also enjoys water adventures very much. He is learning commands and now knows “ven” (come) and of course no! He would do great in a home with another dog or children to play with. The adoption fee for Virdi is $600 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. If you are ready for Virdi to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

BUCK
The day before two pups (Bonnie & Clyde) had been rescued after a passerby saw them scavenging for food by a trash can. He had searched for help, finally contacting Claudia who had taken the dogs into care. When they saw another puppy that looked the same (age, size, coloring, etc.) in the same trash area, they were certain it was a littermate of the two rescued pups. They couldn’t leave him on his own, so Claudia was contacted, and Buck was rescued. After a vet check was done, he joined his siblings getting the needed medical care and starting their new life.
Buck is a Mountain Cur mix male who is about 9 months old and weighs approximately 16 kilos.
Buck is a happy, confident puppy that gets along well with other dogs, cats, and humans; that is adults, teenagers, and young children alike. He shares food, toys, and sleeping areas with his doggy friends in the shelter and loves his daily walks outside where he does good walking on a leash. He is learning commands such as “sentado” (sit) and “quieto” (stay). Buck can take a few minutes to warm up to people but when he feels he is safe, his priority is to get nonstop love and pets. While he likes to play most of the time, he is medium energy so he will do good in a home by himself with a small yard or even an apartment, if he can take daily walks. When going out he loves adventures and enjoys areas with water where he can run in, out, and about.
The adoption fee for Buck is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Buck to join your family, please submit an application found at mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

ARABELA
A neighbor noticed a dog, chained to a pole in an empty lot that seemed to have had recently given birth, she looked closer and sure enough she saw this beautiful female with her litter. The dog had her collar embedded in her neck which made the neighbor wonder how long she had been tied there with no food or water. She asked around and nobody seemed to know where she came from so, the lady started taking food and fresh water to them every day. After a few days, when she realized the dog and her puppies had been abandoned and nobody would go get them, she cut the chain and took the whole family to the vet to get checked. Fortunately, despite being malnourished and filthy, they tested negative to scary illnesses. The kind lady did what she could, so she had them washed, gave them deworming and asked for help. Claudia stepped up and took the mom and puppies to the shelter; their fate was about to change for good.
Arabela is a Belgian Shepherd mix; she is about 2 years old and weights approximately 30 kilos.
Arabela is a sweet dog that loves everybody from adults to children of different ages. She gets along with the rest of the dogs in the shelter however, she does not do well with cats. She can be protective of her food when other dogs get close to her plate (she thinks she may not have any more food soon) but she shares her toys and the rest of the areas with other dogs without an issue. She very much enjoys her daily walks and responds to basic commands such as “sit”, “stay” and she fetches the ball. She has lots of energy active so an active family or with teenagers, other dogs would be ideal.
The adoption fee for Arabela $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Arabela to join your family, please submit an application found at mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Channa is a great puppy, she loves playing with her ball, rope, and toys and she can spend hours chewing on her bones. Once a shy girl, she has blossomed and now enjoys playing with the rest of the dogs in the shelter. She has been around older kids and does well, as long as she is not treated as toy. She is being trained and understands commands such as “sentada” (sit), “ven” (come) and of course no! She would do great being the princess of the house, but she would not mind sharing her family with another dog she can play with.
The adoption fee for Channa is $600 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. If you are ready for Channa to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Libby is a beautiful “strayamus maximus” breed puppy that is 8 months old and weights 17 kilos. She will be a large dog when she is full grown.
Libby gets along well with adults, teenagers, and young children. She does well with the rest of the dogs as well as the cats in the shelter. Being a puppy, she is still in “play mode” all the time and who can blame her. Libby is just enjoying every moment after a difficult start to life!, She shares her food bowl and toys with others. She is a confident little girl and does not react poorly to loud noises, she does well on leash as she knows a fun walk follows. She is now starting to learn commands and so far, she knows what to do when told “sentada” (sit). She is a very active girl that loves water and outside adventures; she would be a great companion for an active family with teenagers or young adults. Another active dog in the house would be a plus to help her burn energy.
The adoption fee for Libby is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found.
If you are ready for Libby to join your family, please submit an application found at mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].
A pregnant dog was wandering the streets of a town outside of Puerto Vallarta when Joselyn saw her. She knew was that the dog was a stray, was born on the street and never had a real family. People in the town fed her, but there was no one that took responsibility for her. Being a stray and not spayed she got pregnant the very first time she went into heat and the story continued to repeat itself. She was a good mom, but it's hard being a stray and even harder when you have little lives that are completely dependent on you. She had an injured back knee and was struggling to walk and take care of her puppies. Jocelyn knew they needed help. She didn't have a place for them, she had no resources, she didn't know what to do; all she knew was they didn't stand a chance if they were left on the street. She found an abandoned room at a mechanic’s shop and moved the family there. It wasn't much better, but at least they were off the street. When Claudia was contacted and asked for help, she took the mom and the puppies into her care. She took the little family to their first health check up at the vet where they discovered that Leia’s 3 puppies had parvo. Thankfully they all recovered and the whole family got their chance at a new life.
Leia is a mixed breed female (we think there is some Lupus Dingo in her), she is about 5-6 years old and weights approximately 14 kilos.
Leia is a docile and laid-back dog; she does well with adults and children of all ages. She also gets along with other dogs and cats in the shelter but given the choice she would prefer to keep all the scratches and attention to herself. Leia is what some might call a cuddle bug. She has no issue with loud noises such as thunder or fireworks and she walks well on leash. After her rescue and once her puppies were nursed, she had knee surgery and has been doing aquatic rehab to recover and hopefully walk normal. Leia’s knee is much better, but the damage was old so she will likely have a slight limp and arthritis for life. She shares toys and her favorite area with the rest of the dogs in the shelter and plays well with them all. She has learned commands such h as “sentada” (sit), “alto” (stop), “ven” (come) and “quieta” (stay). We would love Leia to go to a family with adults or to a single parent home where she can be loved and spend the rest of her life in a relaxed atmosphere.
The adoption fee for Leia is $450 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Leia to join your family, please submit an application found at mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Roger Doger
A tourist was taking an ATV tour in the mountains outside Puerto Vallarta and found a small dog in the brush, very far away from human dwellings. Against his ATV instructor’s advice, he scooped Roger up onto his ATV and brought him down to downtown PV. We believe that Roger was driven up into the mountains and abandoned. After getting to town, the tourist reached out for help and Colette agreed to take him into care. Roger was taken to the vet for testing and was cleared of all the scary stuff. They also noticed that his left eye had an unusual color which after treatment & further exam seemed to be from an old injury. It doesn’t seem to bother him or impact him in any way and the vets have said it shouldn’t cause any problems.
Roger Doger is an adorable terrier pug mix that is approximately 2.5 years old and weighs 10 kilos.
This pup is a super social guy that loves to make friends wherever he goes. He doesn’t care if the humans are tall or small, he just wants to meet them and greet them. Roger has done well with all the other dogs in his foster pack. He is quietly the dominant one and will correct other dogs if needed (not with aggression but with his presence). Roger does well at the dog park as he loves to run & play with large and medium sized dogs, and he is good when meeting other dogs while on leash. He can pull a bit when walking on the leash, but at 22lbs, he’s no sled dog. He hasn’t lived with cats or been tested, but we can certainly do so if needed. When asked to describe Roger, his foster mom said “Roger is a LOVE BUG. He is a fun happy smart curious very loving dog. He loves playing with his pack but MOST of all loves humans. He loves to be beside his human most of the time, snuggled beside you on the couch, or on the bed. He adores petting and loving and puts his heart and soul and all his love into loving you. A curious thing about Roger, he loves to crawl under blankets – even if stifling hot, if he can get his nose under the corner of a blanket on the couch, he will crawl himself into it and settle.” Roger Doger would LOVE a family with kids and/or lots of people and perhaps other dogs!! He’s ready to travel, so please share his album so his family knows he is looking for them.
The adoption fee for Roger is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Roger to join your family, please submit an application found at mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Zeus
Fortunately, this does not happen often, but it happens. During one of the many free spay/ neuter campaigns in Puerto Vallarta, the people this dog trusted most took him to the mobile clinic, filled out the form with fake information and left to never come back to get him. The clinic staff reached out to find someone to foster him while he recovered, and Kyriam stepped up even though she has a full house. She simply but could not leave him without a place to go. She named him Zeus, as she hoped he would also overcome the deception of the people he trusted. He recovered well under Kyriam’s care and is now a healthy boy, both physically and mentally.
Zeus is a highly desirable Mexican mutt; he is about 1 year old and weights approximately 17 kilos.
Zeus does great with small and big dogs; he lives with two Chihuahuas and another female mid-size dog. He has been exposed to kittens but was not left alone with them, so he would need to be tested if there are cats in any potential home. He does great with humans of all ages and is very sociable with other dogs he meets on his walks. He loves car rides because he knows it means adventure (well, except when going to see the Vet). He is not food protective, but he eats super-fast so a special bowl to help him eat slower is recommended. He is housebroken but when left for an extended amount of time, he has access to the patio. He has a lot of energy and would be the perfect companion when going on adventures (especially water adventures) and long walks which will help him to burn energy. At home, he loves to play with toys and right after his naps he looks for his favorite toy to entertain himself but if not found, he may as well chew a sandal. Although he is high-energy, he can also be docile and well behaved when he is out of the house.
The adoption fee for Zeus is $500 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Zeus to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Mouse
Mouse is a 17kg (almost) 6 month old female Doberman puppy who came to us when a couple here bred their two Dobermans and then got in over their heads and reached out to rescues surrendering the puppies and asking for help. She has a wonderful temperament and is so goofy and silly. She is incredibly dog friendly and loves to show all the other dogs at home her toys to try and entice them into playing with her, and her favourite kind of walks are the ones where we stop at the beach or river or dog park and just wait in hopes that other people will appear with their dogs so she can meet new dogs and play with them. In her home there are multiple sized dogs ranging from chihuahuas to a ginormous Great Dane, she loves all of them.
She is incredibly food motivated and had “sit”, “paw”, “down” and “in your crate” figured out in about 10 minutes total, she has been really unusually great as a puppy in the home in the sense that she has never had the inclination to chew electrical cords or furniture and she is fine just playing with her toys when left alone. She sleeps in her crate by my bed and will settle all night and will ask me to let her out to pee at about 7am and if I want to go back to sleep after that she will let me for a couple more hours ha-ha. She walks pretty well on leash but since she is very smart she does need an owner that will be firm on boundaries and ensure that you are following through on what you are asking her to do (i.e. wait for me to give you the ok before you cross a threshold for example getting out of the car or walking out of the front door, or walking on a looser leash) otherwise she doesn´t really see the person walking her as relevant and will try and run the show and do silly puppy things like trying to eat food people have dropped on the street, or pull towards where she has decided it would be most fun to walk, or try to play with the other dog you are walking instead of moving forward. Ensuring that you follow through with requests you give your dog is pretty good advice for any dog owner to ensure you don´t teach them that it´s fine if they blow you off, but for Mouse especially since she is going to be a bigger dog and she does need someone that provides structure alongside the cuddles.
We hang out near lots of cats pretty much daily, and she likes them and will lay calmly by them if they are also chill and laying down, but if they bolt she will try to chase them. She could live with a confident cat who is used to dogs but she would probably spook cats who aren´t used to dogs and will run away. We haven´t really encountered too many children but she is interested in them, due to her having absolutely no idea of her dimensions or spatial awareness I would say slightly older dog savvy kids only just because she may knock down a little kid in her enthusiasm. She loves car rides and just hanging out near me, she´s thrilled if we can explore somewhere and go on an adventure so an active family would be her dream home, but if I´m sick or super busy and don´t have time to tire her out she will just play extra hard with my other dogs she is never destructive at home. She loves to nuzzle your ears in the car and lay her head on your feet when you are sitting at the sofa. She appears very stealthily when you open the freezer just in case you might be able to spare a piece of ice... she really is such a sweet and goofy puppy I´m so excited for someone to get to spend their life with her.

Rayito
There isn’t much we know about the history of this cute dog except that he was running down the highway towards Puerto Vallarta when a car hit him. A very kind soul, an employee of a nearby hotel saw him and secured him in the hotel’s storage room while he asked for help. Somebody reached out to Claudia, and she was able to take him in. She took him to the vet where he was checked and fortunately, besides being filthy and scared, he was fine. The recovery process started with a good bath to get the ticks and fleas off as well as treatment for internal parasites. When the time came, he was given shots and was neutered.
Rayito is a cute Royal (that’s right, the Mexican mutt version to HRH the Queen’s dogs) Corgi mix male; he is about 1 year old and weights approximately 6 kilos.
Rayito interacts well with adults, teenagers, children and even lots of cats. He is an easy-going boy that loves his daily walks and adores car rides. He shares toys, food and favourite spots with the rest of the dogs in the shelter and he is so even-tempered that has been voted “#1 Dog Of The Shelter” in the most recent dog meeting (we haven’t shared the results with the others, so please keep that on the DL). He is learning commands and doing well with “ven” (come), no, “tshhhh” and “sentado” (sit). Rayito will do great with an active family and/or another dog to burn all his puppy energy.
The adoption fee for Rayito is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster (if interested in fostering him, please email [email protected]) or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Rayito to join your family, please apply on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Prieta
Ignorance, procrastination, financial priorities, the “has to give birth at least once before getting spayed” myth and the list goes on absurd reasons people do not spay/neuter their pets. The result on these irresponsible reasons is an overwhelming number of unwanted animals resulting in neglect, abuse, and starvation to say the least. A neighbor of the shelter had a momma dog that recently had a litter of 11 puppies, under the stairs outside her house. They were in a dirty area without fresh water and the momma lacking proper food while nursing. She finally reached out to the shelter and asked for help as she did not have the means to feed them so when Nayeli said yes, the whole family was taken into care. Theyre were washed, properly fed and assigned a special area. When the time came, they were all dewormed, vaccinated, and spayed/ neutered.
Prieta is a pretty, Saluki Sheperd mix, she is about 1.5 years old and weights approximately 17 kilos.
She is one of the lucky dogs in the litter; although she has lived in the shelter most of her short life, she has a chance for a better life if she gets adopted by a loving family. She is a loving, well-behaved girl that likes adults, teenagers and specially kids. She also gets along and plays well with the rest of the dogs in the shelter. She shares toys and sleeping areas but can be food protective so feeding her in a separate area would be best. She loves her daily walks outside the shelter and does not react to other dogs walking by as she is more interested in enjoying her walk. When someone new comes to the shelter she joins the crown at barking but very quickly realizes that they are being silly once she notices that people are nice and want to give her attention. She is such a sweet soft soul and is the kind of dog that you could talk to and know she is listening to every word you say. She’s hard to explain, but even just meeting her once people realize so quickly how special she is. She would be equally great with a family as she would be with a couple or single person, and would be a dog that really connects with her person or people and be the most amazing companion. Prieta would be great with an active family with other dogs so she can play and burn energy.
The adoption fee for Prieta is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Prieta to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]

Solomon (went to an Oregon Weimaraner rescue group)
Solomon is an absolutely stunning 34kg Weimaraner who is 1 year old. He was found by our friend Berenice who noticed someone had come and tied him to a post in a lot near her house, days and weeks passed and she was feeding him, but nobody ever came back for him. He looked healthy when he was first tied so we presume someone dumped him and tied him up to prevent him from following them home. His temperament is beautiful, he likes tiny dogs and big dogs and he hasn´t shown interest in chasing cats when passing them in the street but we haven´t tested him off leash with cats. He likes meeting people and is a typical big goofy Weimaraner who doesn´t necessarily have the best spatial awareness but does have a very kind heart. We think he might accidentally knock over small children. He´s good on a leash and enjoys walking and hiking and swimming in the river or sea, he sometimes pulls when he is very excited. We would love for Solomon to have a dog friend to play with.
The adoption fee for Solomon is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Solomon to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]
Kiwi
We wish people would understand that pets are a long-life commitment and would do everything possible to keep and protect them, even when unforeseen circumstances occur. Sadly, some people find it easier to get rid of them without making the effort. Unfortunately, this is Kiwi’s story. He once had a family that cared for him, or at least that is what they said when he got lost once, Rosy found him wandering on the streets and took him to the shelter. After publishing in social media, the owners came to pick him up saying that he was deeply missed. Not long after, Rosy was contacted again by the owner saying she could not longer take care of him. She was moving and the new place did not allow pets, that easy. Rosy took him in and after having him checked for scary illnesses, de-wormed, shots and eventually had him neutered, he became part of the shelter pack.
Kiwi is a cute Dachshund/ Chihuahua mix male about 4 years old and weights approximately 6 kilos.
Kiwi proudly wears the cutest under-bite ever; he is a very social dog and gets along with people of all ages and cats. He is not protective of his food or sleeping area. He enjoys playing with the rest of the dogs and shares his toys with others. He loves walks and car rides as he knows that means going on adventures except when he finds out the trip is to the vet’s office. He is confident and easy- going so he would be very happy to get all the attention being the only dog at home or, have play mates to play with.
The adoption fee for Kiwi is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster (if interested in fostering him, please email [email protected]) or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Kiwi to join your family, please apply on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].
Pelon
A family owned this cute shaggy dog but did not really take care of him. Some nights they would bring him inside the house but most of the time he was left outside, night and day. The dog knew how to get around the neighborhood, people would feed him, and he would get to play with other dogs on the street. However, his basic needs were not covered, and he was never taken to the vet, had no shots, and he was not neutered. He clearly didn’t mean a lot to family so when Nayely approached them to ask if she could take him to get checked, get shots, and have him neutered, they were happy to tell her she could have him if she wanted. So, Nayely took the mostly bald dog, drove to the vet office and had him checked. The tests results came back, and she found out the dog was anemic, had hypothyroidism, and also had toxocariasis caused by parasitic roundworms which is common in neglected dogs. The vet prescribed treatments Pelon immediately began to improve. He will need to take medication for his hypothyroidism for his whole life, but it is an inexpensive medication that is easy to get.
Pelon is a lovely poodle mix male dog that is about 3.5 years old and weights approximately 6.5 kilos.
Pelon gets along well with adults, teenagers, and children, he has not been exposed to toddlers. He is a gentle dog that loves playing with the rest of the dogs in the shelter, and when he was exposed to cats he did well. He likes to welcome visitors to the shelter and gets excited when going out on walks with leash but loves to run free when taken to a dog park. He was however, he was quite attached to the person taking him and thus, would not run far. He is not food aggressive and shares toys and sleeping areas with other dogs. Pelon loves being with his favourite human and does not react when other dogs get close too. He loves car rides and behaves well when traveling in vehicles.
The adoption fee for Pelon is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster (if interested in fostering him, please email [email protected]) or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Pelon to join your family, please apply on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected].

Rey
A stray dog living on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta had a litter of puppies so when Joselyn saw the family, she knew she had to do something to help. It’s hard enough for a stray having to look for food and water, so she just could not imagine how hard it would be for the momma to get food and provide for the little ones. Joselyn is a student and attends school in Puerto Vallarta; she did not have the means to take care of them, but she rescued them thinking she would ask for help once they were safe in her care. Once in the city, she found a mechanic who was willing to let her have a room in his shop to put the momma and her litter there; the place was not the ideal but at least at that moment, they were off the streets. She then reached out for help and Claudia said yes, she took them in and had them checked by the Vet only to find out the puppies all had parvo. The disease was at the very early stage, so they were treated immediately and were quarantined away from the rest of the dogs. Fortunately they recovered well without any side effects.
Rey is a 6-month-old Schnauzer mix female puppy that weights approximately 12 kilos.
She is a sweet pup that loves giving and getting attention. She likes people and does well with adults, teens, and children alike. She enjoys welcoming people that visit the house although she can be a bit shy at first. She is friends with 16 cats that live in the house and does great with them. She shares food, toys, and common areas with the other dogs in the shelter without a problem but when other dogs bark loud or growl she runs away either hiding under the bed or behind her human’s legs. She enjoys going out on adventures, walks well on the leash and is learning commands; she responds very well to her name and corrections as the smart puppy she is. We think she would be great in an active home where she has lots of toys, play time as well as running and water adventures, ideally with another pup to play with. She needs a family that can make her feel safe as she is a little shy with new people and other dogs but once she feels safe, she will show her wonderful playful personality.
The adoption fee for Rey is $600 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Rey to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]

Noche
Noche is a 12kg 18 month old mexican street mix (the best breed). He came into care because Brischa noticed a very scabby dog full of open wounds and sores running around on the highway close to the big tunnel in Puerto Vallarta, she tried to stop the car and grab him but he ran through the tunnel, so she quickly drove through and asked two old men who were walking on the other side if they wanted an easy 500 pesos could they grab the dog that was running through the tunnel - they were able to quickly catch him and stick him in the window of the car luckily before he was hit! Noche had really terrible blood values which allowed his demodex mange to thrive, and he was covered in scales, scabs and blood. Luckily he thrived in care and is now completely healthy and sterilized and ready for his home !
Noche is such a funny dog, he can be a little shy with strangers but he warms up very quickly and gets very attached to the people he loves. He is incredibly playful with other dogs and makes a noise like a dinosaur when he plays which makes for hours of entertainment. He walks well on a leash and loves car rides and adventures, but is a little scared of skateboards. His fur texture is very interesting, kind of a mix of fur and thick hair. We noticed that he occasionally lifted one of his rear legs when he first came into rescue but our vet took a look and ascertained there is no break old or new, his tendons were weak from malnutrition when he was younger so he gets a daily glucosamine supplement to help his joint strength and he barely lifts it anymore.
The adoption fee for Noche is $500 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you are ready for Noche to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]
Pasita
It was a Saturday and Lupita’s family decided to have a picnic and spend the day at the “Paso Ancho” river. They were already there when Lupita arrived and as she was walking towards the group, they asked if the adorable dog following was hers. She turned around and had no idea where that cute playful puppy had come from. She offered her something to eat and with a full belly, the dog was ready to jump in the water and play. She had no intention of leaving and spent the rest of the afternoon with the group, even when Lupita walked around the surrounding areas and asked if anybody knew her. Nobody seemed to recognize her so when it was time to leave, Lupita, despite having a full house with dogs, could not leave her there, especially after she noticed the dog was in heat. She put her in the car and Pasita (named after Paso Ancho River) was off she was for a life change.
Pasita is a gorgeous Belgian Malinois mix female that is about 1.4 years old and weights approximately 18 kilos.
Pasita is an active dog, that loves humans as well as the other four dogs in her foster home, and she likes to chase cats. She enjoys going out on walks and she gets excited when meeting other dogs on the trips, but she is not aggressive towards them. She has no food aggression issues and she shares her toys and sleeping area with the rest of the dogs in the house. She gets stressed when being left all alone in the house for long periods, and she does much better if the other dogs are with her. She prefers company to a solo life. She is used to sleeping in her kennel at night and she will even walk in on her own to nap in it during the day as it is her safe space. Pasita is a sweet, loving girl and we think her ideal home would include another dog and active humans. She’s just a young girl and she still has much to learn and explore…who would like a dog to take on their adventures?
The adoption fee for Pasita is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. If you would like Pasita to join your family, please submit an application on mexpup.com or, if you have any questions or need more information you can email [email protected]

Eugene
Eugene is a 3.5kg chihuahua terrier mix male, he is around 9 months old and such a sweetie. He came into rescue because somebody actually opened our garage door and locked him in there. Our friend Adolfo is working on the house currently and found him in the closed garage hiding under the ATV. He was a little shaken up but after 20 minutes or so he realized he was safe and he seemed relieved. Eugene is healthy, sterilized, all his vaccinations and tests for ehrlichia, anaplasma, distemper, heartworm etc and has been cleared to travel! He is very playful with our other dogs and prefers smaller to play with, he walks great on a leash and loves exploring. He follows his people around the house like a little shadow but he is fine when left alone in the house. He does bark when new people enter the house but he also lives with 7 other dogs who love to bark so its hard to resist joining the chorus.
He LOVES sleeping on his people or hanging out near them and is a great coffee shop dog.
Eugene is flying to Vancouver on April 11th and needs a home to go to ! If you are interested in Eugene please submit an application on mexpup.com under the adoption process tab. Adoption fee of $600 covers all his medical and his flight

Almendra
Almendra is a 4 year old pocket bully who was bought from a breeder in Guadalajara by a neighbor at just 8 weeks. She is around 18.5kg but hilariously low to the ground. Her family loved her a lot but frankly struggled to care for her because they didn´t have the tools or knowledge, they cut her ears at home with kitchen scissors because they thought that was how bullies are supposed to look and its ´cute´, and they didn´t realize that just because you buy from a ´breeder´it doesn´t guarantee any kind of ethics in how they breed and therefore doesn´t necessarily equal a healthy puppy.
I´ve known Almendra for years since I pass her house on my dog walks frequently, her temperament is absolutely beautiful, her mum had a baby 3 years ago and they were the best of friends, she is great with dogs, she constantly wanted to lick and groom my kitten, she´s thrilled to meet strangers and friends alike. She is honestly a joy to be around, she wants to lick and kiss everyone A LOT, she´s great on leash although can be lazy when it´s hot.
I can´t sing her praises enough, she charms everyone she meets with her brick like body and alien block head. I truly love her so much. She loves learning tricks and will sit, shake, jump up, play dead - you just have to ask her in Spanish. The trouble came for Almendra´s family when she started developing skin issues at a very young age, bullies are notorious for this kind of thing but Almendra´s skin was really horrific and they tried for a few years to pay for her vetcare but were often left confused as to why she was still covered in bleeding sores and what looked like fungus, why she would itch so much until she was almost completely bald and never seemed comfortable. Almendra´s family do not have a lot of money so after more than 3 years of desperately trying to cure Almendra they asked for help, I offered to pay for the vetcare but let them keep Almendra since I know they were very attached, but the owner (who lives with her grandma) told me that her grandma had given her a 3 day time limit and if she couldn´t find a place for her to go, she was insisting Almendra be put to sleep on the third day. Of course I went to pick her straight up. After lots of extended testing at the vet we found that the root of Almendra´s problems came from her levels of estrogen and what was essentially a huge hormonal imbalance. This made sense because her family told me they had tried many times over the years to breed from her but that she seemed to be infertile and no pregnancy ever took. We sterilized her immediately, and changed her diet to raw beef only, and then began treating her skin with itraconasol. It took a few months for her to heal properly, but now she looks fantastic and is so much more comfortable and we are so glad we have found what works for her. We are happy to send 3 or 4 months worth of her meds with her to start a family off, since they arent a controlled substance and can be sent across the border
A quirk of Almendra’s is that she has a drinking problem...not tequila but water, she drinks A LOT of water, we have had her kidney function tested now 3 times because I was alarmed at how much she was drinking and subsequently peeing but everything comes back in a completely normal range, its difficult to limit her water intake when there are 9 other dogs in the house that need access to water too. Our vet also thinks that when she is out of this intense heat she probably won’t feel compelled to drink so much. Watching her swim at the river is truly a sight to see, she is like a hippo swimming and drinking at the same time. This means that she struggles to hold her bladder for more than about 4 hours (she´s absolutely fine overnight and sleeps in bed and just pees in the morning, but when she´s awake she has about a 4 hour limit) this is absolutely fine at my house because I leave the back door to the patio open all the time and she has never had an accident inside, but if for some reason I have needed to close the doors and I´m gone for 5 hours or so, she can sometimes pee inside. She is crate trained, great off leash (although she does have a tendency to go and lick any stranger she can find to be her friend), and just great all round. She has also helped raise an orphan kitten as you can see in some photos, and would be good in a home with dog savvy cats. I´m so glad that her family trusted me with her care and letting her go will be ROUGH but I know that it frees up a space for me to help another dog who may be in trouble.
Adoption fee for Almendra is $400. This covers her spay, vaccines and flight cost. She has a flight secured into YVR on May 10th so that we can get her out before westjet goes into an embargo for the summer, as they are the only airline who will fly bully breeds.
Almendra needs either a forever home or a foster home to go to for when she arrives. Please email [email protected] and submit an application on mexpup.com as well if you are interested in Almendra

Balu
We know Balu never had a family to call her own. She was, at an early age, wandering on the streets of Puerto Vallarta and looking for food and water in the neighborhood trash bins. Claudia knows the dangers these puppies face being on the streets and could not ignore the great need, so she took her in and changed her life. At her vet visit, she was tested for all the scary illnesses which fortunately came back negative, so anti parasites & vitamins were given and a medical plan was established. She is the cutest lab mix that is now about 10 months old and weighs approximately 19 kilos. When she first got to the shelter, she was desperately looking for her own family, so she made sure no area was left unchecked, including the underground so she dug a big hole to verify they were not there. Sadly, she has not yet found her forever home, but we told her we were looking and would make sure she found the family of her dreams.
She gets along with other dogs and is very affectionate with people; she loves playing with water and has fun splashing all over the little pond jumping in and out like there is no tomorrow. She also does well with cats. Balu is active and very smart. Like most puppies, she will need daily exercise and basic obedience training as she has a decent amount of puppy energy right now. Balu is super friendly, curious and should be fairly confident as she settles into her new home.
The adoption fee for Balu is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a January 16th flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Goldie
Anna saw Goldie for days wandering on the Malecon of Puerto Vallarta and simply couldn´t leave him there. Life on the streets is hard and she decided to do what was necessary to help this pup. She committed to covering costs & reached out to a friend hoping they could foster as the pup needed time to get healthy before he would be ready to travel to BC for adoption and her flight was leaving in just a few days. The first step was getting him to the Vet for screening and then to his foster home to start his new life. He was underweight along with fleas and ticks. Not surprisingly, his bloodwork showed he had a tick-borne disease, so he was treated, and once healthy enough vaccines were given, and then he was neutered.
He is an attractive Golden Retriever mix (hence the name) who is about 1.5 years old and weights approximately 20 kilos.
Goldie is a handsome boy that gets along with all the dogs and cats in the shelter as well as adults and children of all ages. He has a friendly personality but also enjoys the activity and because of his size, he can also get quite rough when playing so we think he would be better off going to a home with no toddlers. He can be in a house with other (no-alpha) dogs and he would share his food and his toys with the rest of the dogs. He is very smart and learns commands and tricks quite fast; he is good at walking on a leash and loves playing with his ball and having a splash in the little pond. Goldie has a medium to high energy level, he loves people and gets super excited when people come around. He will need to be taught no jumping up to give what he thinks are hugs. While physical exercise is great, he also is so smart and will need mental stimulation like training, feeding in puzzle bowls, kongs, lick mats, etc. He would probably absolutely love something like agility and would be the ideal hiking dog for someone who likes to spend their time in the forests and mountains. He was used to live on the streets so is a street-smart dog

Blanquita
Blanquita is a mid-size mixed breed girl, about 2 years old weighing about 20 kilos. She was born on the streets and remained a stray until she was rescued by Laura and taken into foster care. Living on the streets is dangerous and one day she was hit by a car and hurt her back legs, fortunately, she suffered no permanent damage and she healed well.
She is a very curious girl and can be a little high energy sometimes. During the day she likes to have her play time for some time and then she settles down. She loves to chase and get chased, run, and play tug-of-war with her (the tiny and the bigger) foster siblings but she also enjoys laying down on the couch with her human while watching her favorite TV show. She can, at the same time entertain herself with her toys. Despite being active, she is also a grateful loving girl that attaches to her family and wants to give them love all the time. She gets super excited when sees the leash or her food being served.
Blanquita has a docile, friendly personality and gets along well with other dogs and cats as well. A home with other dogs will be good but also a home where she is the only pet would be great as she enjoys attention. She is housebroken, uses a doggie door, is good at walking on the leash, and does not pull but rather wants to sniff everything like she is just discovering the street smells.
The adoption fee for Blanquita is $450 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight this month if an adoptive or foster home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Roland
Roland is a very sweet 6 month old purebred Miniature Schnauzer that was purchased from a breeder in Guadalajara. The daughter of his previous owners reached out and asked if we could help remove him from her parents home because they were getting very frustrated with Roland chewing the plants in the garden and had started to beat him with broomsticks and mops and she couldn´t bear to see him hurt anymore. He came to us at just 4 months and luckily seems to have no memory of being abused. He is a little nervous around young children but other than that he is a super happy go lucky outgoing little guy. He is a really playful, excited and cuddly little creature. Roland just loves his life and chewing his toys. He is also a beach boy who loves digging in the sand and redesigning the back garden. After long walks he just likes to chill and snuggle. When it’s time for bed, which he enjoys most with company, he prefers the cozy dog bed in our room or if it is too hot he also sleeps on the floor.
Roland’s ideal home would be with someone who is willing to take the time and effort to work with him as he is still a baby and needs to keep going in the same direction to stay a happy and well balanced dog. He would love other dogs in the household. He is still a sweet puppy so he has tendencies like being teethy, jumpy and gets very excited when it's time for walks and play. He just wants to see the world but who can blame him for that, right? 🙂
Roland is ready and can’t wait to be the new addition to your family. So, Roland crosses his paws and is waiting patiently for you!
Roland can be on a flight into YVR on Jan 16th if a home is found. Adoption fee of $600 includes flight, vaccines, neuter and full vetting*
Venus
We are sure many of you remember this story as lots of people were routing for Venus and her sister when they came into care. Back in March a woman messaged mexpup asking for help. Her mother had found two puppies only about 4 weeks old in a bucket who were fighting for their lives. We immediately asked Claudia for help and without hesitation she went to pick the two girls up. They were in really bad shape. Sadly one of the two pups who we named Sol (like the sun) didn’t make it. Claudia had also at the time just taken zoe and her 5 babies who we called the planet puppies, and so Claudia put the puppy who had survived with Zoe and her pups so that Zoe could help bring the baby back to life by having a “mom”, and so Venus became planet puppy number 6.
She is now a very attractive young girl with a high level of energy that is very social and playful. We had no idea how Venus would look when she grew up, but she´s a lab mix and at about 10 months old she weighs approximately 24 kilos. She enjoys her play time with other dogs and shares her toys with small and large dogs as well as cats. Both adults and children of all ages like her and play with her, and she loves all the attention she gets. Venus loves her daily walks and does not pull on the leash. Her favourite thing of all times is playing in water and splashing the others while playing in a little pool.
Adoption fee for Venus is $550.00 including flight, neuter, vaccines and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if an adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com
Rambo
We don’t know if Rambo ever had a family but he spent his days wandering on the streets and looking for food in the trash. A good soul reported him to the rescue group and we simply could not ignore him as there is always the risk of getting hit by a car or getting seriously sick eating trash. He was taken into care and then to the vet to be checked, fortunately and despite being malnourished and full of parasites, he tested negative for all scary illnesses. He was given vitamins and treatment for parasites. Once healthy enough, he was vaccinated and started his life-changing care.
Rambo is a charming mixed-breed 1.5 years old male weighing about 24 kilos.
Although Rambo is a big boy, he is docile and gets along well with dogs, big and small. He is gentle when playing with kids and enjoys playing with toys. He will bark at strangers and vehicles if he feels he needs to make himself noticeable but once it´s clear the people are not a threat, he will get close for the attention he loves to get. He enjoys his walks and does well on the leash.

Kiki
Just like thousands of unwanted dogs, Kiki and her siblings were the results of an unaltered dog running free on the streets even though she had a family. When the litter was born, the owner was not interested in keeping them or even finding good homes for them so she was happy to be able to surrender them to a shelter. When they arrived, they were healthy but only weeks old; Kiki was the biggest and strongest of them all. The protocol started and they were checked by the vet, got tested for scary illnesses, and got their shots and deworming.
Kiki is now a 1-year-old beautiful mixed breed female about 5 kilos.
This loving sweet girl will get close to you just to get all the love and attention she can get. She is very trusting and loves to play with her foster siblings, small and big although sometimes can get a little bit protective of her toys. She has a relaxed personality, enjoys her daily walks, and behaves well like the little good girl she is, not pulling on the leash. She is not a barker but will get excited when other dogs bark.
The adoption fee for Kiki is $600.00 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight if an adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Noa
Noa is a sweet little stunner who is almost 11 months old, and currently weighs around 45-50 pounds, however she is a food hog in the shelter and has become a bit of a chunky girl who could lose a few pounds, she really isnt a big girl when you have her next to you !She was abandoned on the streets near Claudias shelter at only approx 2 months old and was taken straight into care. Other than the typical fleas, ticks and some stomach worms noah was not in the worst shape, and quickly became a healthy puppy in Claudias care. Noa is quite possibly one of the sweetest dogs you could meet. She loves attention and wants lots of it. She will take it from anyone she meets, doesn't matter if she just met you 2 seconds ago.
Noa has grown up with 20+ dogs at all times, and has also grown up being exposed to cats on a regular basis. She would be happy with a dog savvy cat if there was one. Noa does well with doing her business on the patio and not in the house or in her sleeping area. Without constant access to a patio and while settling in (especially in the cold) she may need some patience and reminding.
Noa has a medium to high energy level. She would be thrilled to relax and cuddle on the couch with her humans, but does need her daily exercise to get her mellowed out so that she is on her best behaviour. Of course she is still a puppy who will likely mellow over time, but she will still always be a girl who needs a good long walk, run, hike, play etc. in her daily routine. She would be a fabulous adventure buddy. She also loves water.
Noa would honestly fit in well in a number of different home. When we think of an absolutely ideal home for Noa we would picture a home with another dog, a yard she could run in, and some kids or teens who would give her tons of love and attention. However like we said she would fit in well with mostly anyone so long as they commit to keeping her active and working on some basic training with her, as she is a smart smart girl. She LOVES playing with her dog friends so much, so if her new home were to not have another dog they must at least let her socialize with friends, or at the park or at day care. etc so she still gets her dog time in.
Noas adoption fee of $550 covers spay, vaccines, full vetting and flight. She can be on a flight on Jan 16th if an adoptive home is found.
Kira
Meet Kira !
A gorgeous 3 year old, husky, white shepherd mix of sorts.
Kira was being kept on a persons patio and was being neglected, laying out in the hot son in mexico - no place for a dog with as much fur as her ! She was skinny and dirty, but once Nayeli and her team took Kira into care she started to get healthy and blossom into the beautiful dog she is.
Kira is an amazing dog. She loves people and very happily greets strangers who come to the shelter she is in. She also interacts with children daily as young as aged 3 and is sweet although sometimes forgets her size so kids a little older may be a better option. Kira does well on walks, and is an extremely intelligent dog. She has no food, toy or sleeping area possession or aggression. If she really loves a person she may get a little jealous if other dogs come to get attention while she is getting it but she does not fight she just gives them a little snap to tell them off. This can be corrected. She is a very loyal dog. Kira LOVES attention so much that sometimes when you arent giving it to her she will give you little love bites on your butt as her "fun game" of getting you to focus on her. She walks well and leash, she may pull a little sometimes but things like an easy walk harness can help correct that. Kira loves car rides and LOVES water.
As any husky/ shepherd type dogs, Kira has energy, so she would be happiest in an active family, and a family who has a yard she can run and entertain herself in while they are busy. She currently lives with over 50 other dogs and would be happy with other dogs, although she would also likely do fine alone if she had lots of attention from her people ! Whoever adopts Kira will be showered with love and loyalty from this beautiful and special girl. Kira can be on a flight into Vancouver once an adoptive home is found. Her adoption fee is $450 and it includes her flight, spay, vaccines, full vet testing. Please email [email protected] or apply on mexpup.com if you are interested in bringing Kira into your home !

Simba
Meet Simba! This sweet boy had a family and a flight booked and just a few days before his flight they backed out. We have received many inquiries for him but when we pursue them no one replies which we are so confused about as this boy is truly a treat and will bring so much happiness to whoever ends up adopting him. Simba is a 59 pound, 2 year old golden retriever mix. He was rescued from the street, we found him wandering outside a Costco. He was thin and had parasites. He has since received treatment and been put on a meal plan to gain weight. He is doing much better now! Simba has been described as a sweet, docile boy. He has been doing great with both on leash and off leash training. He is super affectionate to everyone he meets at the shelter including strangers and children. Simba loves playing with other dogs but we have noticed that he tends to be a bit too much for SOME larger male dogs, he loves to play like he is a puppy and is super goofy - some of our larger male dogs sense his passiveness and pick on him and bully him with literally no instigation from Simba whatsoever! Not all of our males as some of the large males do still enjoy playing with him but there are a couple who are a little more dominant that try and push him around but he doesnt give them any pushback so we hope to get him moving soon so he can be in a happier environment. Therefore we think that a home with larger female dogs, or a passive male or any gender small dog is best suited for him. He loves small dogs and is such a gentle player with them never taking it too far. He loves playing with larger females too and his best friend is our husky girl Deysi. He knows his size and acts accordingly. He has not been exposed to cats so a cat free household would be best just due to his excitability. Simba has a medium to high energy level, an ideal home for him would have a large yard or space for him to run around in. He deserves a family that can provide him with the daily exercise he will need and will bring him along on all of their adventures. He would also do really well with children in the home. If you are looking for an adventure buddy then this beautiful golden boy may be the companion for you. Simba can be on our next flight into BC once an adoptive home is found Adoption fee covers neuter, vaccines, flight and full vetting
Bart
Claudia saw that two puppies were abandoned in an alley and could not help herself but take them into her care. Too many dangers await for a pair of helpless puppies being by themselves on the street. As usual, the first stop was the Vets office where they were checked and fortunately, despite being full of fleas and ticks as well as being dehydrated and malnourished, no serious illness were there. They were de wormed and prescribed antibiotics and vitamins and sent to a new start in life.
illnesses
Bart is an adorable Golden retriever mix puppy about 10 months old. He weighs approximately 23kg kilos (50ish pounds). He likely won't pass 60 pounds
Being a puppy still and being Golden, Bart has a lot of energy and loves to play and run around the shelter chasing and being chased by other dogs however, his favourite area to play with the residents is the cat area where he can play with them all day long. He is a happy puppy that loves his humans. Bart can be a little bit shy at first but is as sweet as can be. We think that he knows that if he plays the shy card people will lure him with treats so that they can say hi. He warms up very quickly. Some things in the outside world can be new and a little scary to Bart sometimes, as they can be for lots of puppies, so he looks forward to having his people help his confidence grow with exposure to new things. Bart would really especially love a dog sibling he can learn the ropes from. We think that having a confident dog sibling would make Bart just follow in their lead! He loves his toys which he will share with others. Bart is looking for a forever family and can be on a flight into Vancouver or surrounding once an adoptive home for him is found
The adoption fee for Bart is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Brutus
Brutus was rescued from the streets where he wandered every day looking for food. He was malnourished, dehydrated, and very skinny. His rescuer took him to the Vet and fortunately, tests for all scary illnesses came back negative so he was given deworming, and, vitamins, and off he was sent to the start of his new life !
Brutus is a handsome Doberman male who weighs about 31 kilos. He is approximately 4 years old.
He is a sweet and gentle big boy and is great with adults, teenagers, and young children as well as other dogs, small or large. He enjoys his walks and does great on a leash and likes to play with his foster siblings although he can get a bit rough when playing with bigger dogs. He really enjoys getting soaked and playing with the hose when watering the backyard. He is well-behaved and likes to share his toys but he can be a bit food protective. Although he has not been exposed to cats, Brutus loves to meet new people and socialize. He has gained confidence now that he knows he lives in a secure environment and is loving his life, especially when he goes on car rides.
The adoption fee for Brutus is $450.00 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines and full vetting. He can be on a flight into BC or Alberta, if an adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Harvey Dent
~ Harvey Dent is still looking for his FURever home, please look the beauty inside him and not his damaged face. Whoever did that to him will have to live with it while Harvey Dent has forgiven and forgotten. Now he only wants to have a family he can love and call his own ~
Harvey Dent has a very sad story but thankfully, it is just that…. a sad history but now he has a bright future. He had an owner who didn’t take care of him at all and one day (we want to think it was by accident) he said the pup was hit on the right side of his face with a shovel, making him lose part of the skin on his upper lip exposing his teeth. Fortunately, the hitting was not hard enough to break the bone. Lydia saw the resulting injury and immediately asked if she could take the pup to the Vet for care. The original plan was a few nights in the clinic and then the owner wanted him back as he said that he loved him (hum…just pondering that statement after viewing the photos). After a few days and a few conversations, the owner agreed that it was best for Harvey Dent to get the care he needed, and the owner agreed he wasn´t up to the challenge so Harvey Dent was surrendered. Claudia had no space, but she found a way to take him into care where he started on his way to healing both physically and emotionally. Yes, Claudia is amazing!
This good-looking Shepard mix is 1-year-old approximately 1-year-old weighing about 21 kilos.
He is now a healthy and happy young dog waiting for the first opportunity he can to play with other dogs. Harvey Dent doesn´t live in the past. He´s a big fan of getting love and attention from all the people around him. He tried to be alpha when he first arrived in Claudia’s care, so she hired a trainer that worked with him on the issue. He now gets along with dogs and cats as well as adults and children. Because of his history, personality, and tendency to be the alpha, he needs to have a parent that will lead him the right way. He is past his chewing stage and will share his food and sleeping area with his foster siblings. He can be a little possessive with his toys but will not be aggressive. He walks great on a leash and enjoys the outdoors so an active family would be ideal since he loves going hiking and enjoying water adventures.
The adoption fee for Harvey Dent is $500 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Akela
Behind a lot of the stray dog’s stories there is an irresponsible owner and Akela’s story is one of those many. Claudia was driving by this poor neighborhood in the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta and could not ignore this beautiful girl trying to cross the street without supervision. She asked around if the pup had a family only to find out she lived with her mom in a tow truck mechanic’s shop. The mechanic had the mom and never took the time to get her spayed. As she was allowed to roam the streets, she kept getting pregnant and he would give away all the pups without any remorse. It only took a minute to Claudia to decide to change the little pup’s life, so she picked her up and asked the Mom’s owner if she could have the puppy and also have the Mom spayed. He said yes and off she went to take care of both. Akela was checked by the vet where she was de-wormed and testes were done; thankfully everything came back negative and Akela was ready for her new life.
Akela is a beautiful Aussie Shepherd mix. Who is about 11 months old. She weights approximately 22 kilos.
This cutie gets along with all the dogs and cats in the shelter as well as adults and children of all ages. She is very sweet and loves to play as all puppies her age do; she really enjoys her daily walks, sniffing all and every area she walks by to make sure she is not missing anything. Akela is a smart girl and true to her breed, she will need mental and physical work to help her be her very best self. She enjoys sharing toys with the other dogs and has not shown to be possessive of her people, food or sleeping area.
The adoption fee for Akela is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Alma
Alma is a 1 year old STUNNING female street dog mix (we would love to hear guesses on her breed - she is very striking) who came into care when our lovely friend found her abandoned and terrified at only 3 months old.
She is now just about 21kg and ready for her next chapter and forever home. Alma is incredibly sweet but quite shy with humans she doesn´t know, she takes a day or two to warm up to strangers but she doesn´t bark or act aggressively, she will always rather hang back and avoid a situation that feels stressful, she likes to observe new people from a couple of meters away until she understands they are friends. It helps that she is a massive foodie so winning her over is not too tough!
Alma is incredibly dog friendly and always the first to join in a game of chase or wrestling, she loves meeting dogs she doesn´t know and loves to play in our yard hunting for iguanas to chase with her doggy friends (she also loves chasing the chickens that walk around the house so we think we can safely assume a cat free home is best).
Alma is a lot more confident walking on a leash in town if she has a friend with her, so we would love for her to go to a home who already has at least one dog. She really has come on leaps and bounds, when she first came into care she was very shut down and would cower underneath chairs or even the seats in the car, now one of her favourite things is car rides and going to the beach to run around and frolic.
Alma loves cuddling and kissing but is perfectly happy having down time in her crate, she often goes in there to chill out. She is such a sweet soul that is looking for someone to support her in continuing to come out of her shell. She loves being active and much prefers hiking trails or running on the beach or at the river to the busy streets of the city.
Adoption fee for Alma is $500 and it includes spay, vaccines, full vetting and flight. Alma can fly into Vancouver, if an adoptive home is found

Moka
At her young age, Moka knew how hard it was to survive on the streets while she wandered around looking for food and water. She was malnourished, filthy, and covered with fleas. There are just too many dangers for a small puppy out there, so a good soul decided to take her in and the first thing was to take her to the vet where tests were done, a medicated bath given, and eventually vaccines. Once they were sure she was ready, he took her home to nurse her back to health.
Moka is a beautiful mixed breed female about 1.5 years old and weighing approximately 5 kilos.
Moka can be a bit timid when first introduced to people but shortly after, when she knows there is no threat, she gets close for the love and attention she craves. This sweet girl loves to play with other dogs in the shelter, socialize, and join them all when the barking session starts. She is relaxed most of the time and very loving with people of all ages although she prefers adults. She adores getting love and attention back from humans. She is well-behaved and has not shown chewing issues. She enjoys her daily outings and walks well on a leash.
The adoption fee for Moka is $600.00 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight very soon if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Channel
This is a long one but please read and PLEASE SHARE. This sweet girl really needs to find her forever home ! We are excited to introduce you all to this sweet and special girl.
Channel is a approx 5 year old bully breed girl weighing in at about 40 pounds but could definitely gain some weight and muscle.
She is the kind of dog that would squash anyone's misconceptions on pitbuls and other bully breed dogs, that is truly how wonderful and special she is.
Channel live with a lady and 3 other dogs. The lady had a bed for her and gave her food, but she just didn't have the money to give her vaccines or sterilize her, the lady contacted Nayeli and told her that due to life or death problems she had to leave Vallata and couldn't take her. She told them that she would leave the dogs locked up in the house, and so Nayeli went and took them.
Soon after taking in Channel they realized her wobble. The vets said that Channel would have had distemper at some point in her life. For those that don't know, distemper is a terrifying disease that is often fatal and that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Often dogs don't survive it, but when they do they typically will have some sort of neurological symptom such as a tick or twitch. Channel's tick is very apparent and it leaves her wobbling as she walks. She can still walk on all 4 legs and has full function of her entire body, but it takes her time to get around. Nonetheless she is a happy girl, full of life and love.
Channel lives with 50+ other dogs right now and gets along great with everyone. She is sweet and kind when new people visit and will snuggle up to strangers with no problem. Being with so many dogs, Channel will often get knocked over by the rambunctious pups, so she tries to stay out of the hustle and bustle and will find nice corners of sun to tan in. Initially Nayeli though she may be happier in the quiet away from all the other dogs, but when she seperated Channel from all of them she cried for her friends. Once Nayeli brought her back out to the pack she instantly stopped. It's very clear that Channel adores the companionship of other dogs. We would love to see her go to a home with another dog.
We are unsure of how she would do with cats but could cat test her. Even if she didnt like them much she wouldn't be able to get to a cat quick enough.
With having so many dogs in care it can be hard for Channels people to be able to focus a ton on building up her strength. We think that with regular controlled exercise and some weight and muscle gain Channels tick could improve decent amount. Usually a distemper tick can take a lot of energy from the dog which means they do need to eat more. Channel could do putting on at least 10 pounds. The sooner this girl can get out of the shelter and into a home the sooner she can start to thrive.
Channel is a mellow and sweet girl. She is not difficult to care for and can live her daily life completely normal. She is not 100% house trained but is not at square one. She will need a home with not a lot of stairs or with someone who can lift her up and down them or better yet get her a little harness and help her walk up and down them on her own - that sure would help her build up some muscle. She would be happiest in a home with another dog and with people who could be with her often. She is such a chill girl and would make anyone who takes her unconditionally happy and full of love. We know that physically she may take a tiny bit extra work but it would be all worth it. It's hard to really explain Channel and her wobble in a bio without making it lag on but I would be more than happy to chat with anyone over the phone to explain her more and give a better picture to anyone interested !
We have had a wonderful person who has met Channel and loved her but is not the right home for her offer to donate 50 dollars a month for a year to her new family to help pay for Channels food.
Channel is spayed, vaccinated and tested for all major diseases. Her adoption fee of $400 covers all the medical and her flight. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com if you are interested in Channel
Almendra
Almendra was rescued, but the person that took her into care pushed her into the hands of someone else. It was a beyond frustrating situation. Rescuing a dog isn´t taking it off the street and dumping it on someone else. The new caregiver did her best to provide for Almendra, but she didn´t really have the ability to provide her a forever home. She took the responsible route by reaching out to others and asking for help. That is how this sweet girl ended up in the care of Claudia.
We think she is a Podenco Andaluz mix that is about a year old and weighs approximately 20 kilos.
Almendra is a gentle and sweet girl. She adores human attention and will often jump up to give you a big hug (which she will need to be taught is not always polite) but she does it out of love and joy to be around people. It is hard to put Almendra’s personality into words, she is the kind of dog you meet and always remember. She is smart and has a medium to high energy level. She will do best with active people who can ensure she gets her daily exercise not only physically, but also mentally with training, and things like puzzle bowls, kongs, etc. She would be thrilled to enjoy nights cuddled up on the couch with her people, and is not go go go all the time, but will need her exercise and brain challenges to ensure she is the best dog she can be. As they say, a tired dog is a behaved dog. She likes to play with her foster siblings and caretakers. She gets along with cats too. Her daily walks give her the most joy and are the highlight of her day; she spends the rest of her day chilling at her favourite spot playing on and off with her passing-by friends. She shares her food bowl and toys well with the other dogs. Almendra would do well in a home with kids but just due to her liking to jump to give hugs we would probably say kids who are a little older so that she doesn't knock them over. She would be happy to be in a home with another dog but it´s not an absolute must, so long as she gets the attention she wants from her people and has other interactions with dogs such as with friends.
The adoption fee for Almendra is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight to Vancouver on January 16th, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Macy
Steph and her husband were driving back home at night on a very busy highway when they saw this beautiful white dog running back and forth across the highway, very disoriented and in great distress. They passed by but Steph could not stop thinking she could have done something since the dog was in great danger of being run over, so she asked her husband to take the first U-turn and come back to help her. Macy was still trying to avoid the high-speed traffic and she seemed relieved when Steph got out of her car and invited her in. They took her home, fed her, and placed a comforter on the floor where she could sleep. Macy knew she was safe and slept all night long. The next day she was taken to the Vet for a health check and tests for all the scary illnesses, which came back negative. Steph wanted to make sure her family if she had one, knew she was safe but after posting her for weeks in social media groups and posters along the streets, nobody claimed her. It was very disheartening to learn she had been abandoned.
Macy is a beautiful “great Mexican mutt” about 3 years old. She weighs approximately 18 kilos.
Macy is a well-behaved young girl that gets along with other dogs and cats as well as adults and children of all ages. She likes to be the first one welcoming visitors in her foster home, likes to play with the ball, and walks great on a leash while enjoying long walks. She is housebroken and does not damage furniture inside the house; however, she can be quite rough with her toys thinking that a stuffed animal looks better without an arm or head. She is smart and learns commands quite fast. She has a friendly personality and enjoys activities to lower her mid-energy level, but she also loves cuddling on the couch with her favourite person where she feels safe and loved.
The adoption fee for Macy is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Guera
Guera wandered the streets for some time before Claudia saw her and was able to take her in. She did not know if Guera ever had a family but it was clear that being in the physical condition she was, she needed help. She was right away taken for a Vet check and, besides being underweight and full of ticks and fleas and being anemic, none of the scary illnesses tested positive so she was sent to the shelter with medication for parasites and some vitamins to pump her back to health.
She is a beautiful whippet type mix (likely with many other things) about 2 years old, weighting approximately 15 kilos.
Guera is a well-behaved young girl that gets along with the rest of her foster dog and cat siblings. We think Guera would be very happy with or without another animal in the home, but probably the happiest with another chill dog or cat. She loves her daily walks and enjoys being able to sniff around discover new tracks. She is past her chewing stage and is gentle when playing with teenagers and other dogs with toys. She gets excited when someone new comes to the shelter, but she will let the other dogs do their crazy dances before she comes over to say hello. She is the mellow one of the pack and is just fine letting others get the attention first. Once every has gotten their share, she then gets close for petting and giving unconditional love; she is even-tempered, intelligent and affectionate. She likes to chill in her favourite area out of the hustle and bustle to watch the other pups play and enjoys sunbathing. Guera would be a great addition to an active family with older children (maybe around 10 and up but a bit younger could be fine if they are calm kids) and/or teenagers since she loves running around and going on adventures. She is really chill and we could imagine a home with too much going on all the time might not be her thing. This is not because we think she would react negatively, we just think she would be happier somewhere with people who are active yet chill. Guera is a wonderful girl, her soft yet calm personally really steals your heart, and we think that in a home of her own where she can be a bit more of the focus of attention she will start to show more of her goofy side to her forever family.
The adoption fee for Guera is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines and full vetting. She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Q
Giving away puppies as gifts is not always the best idea. New owners may seem delighted with the gift until it becomes an inconvenience, or they find out their living situation is not accommodating for the new dog. This is what happened to Q; he was given to an employee of the shelter as a gift by a neighbor and soon he realized that living in a small room at his auntie’s house was not going to work. He then asked Claudia if the puppy could stay in the shelter and she agreed to. Soon after, the young man moved out of town and asked Claudia to keep the puppy while he got settled in his new city, but months went by and she was unable to come back, he surrendered the puppy to Claudia.
Q is a handsome Dachshunds male about 2 years old. He weights approximately 7 kilos.
Q is sweet little guy that gets along with all dogs and cats in the shelter, and he is very friendly with all adults and children who visit the shelter. He has a friendly personality and does not hesitate to share his toys with the rest of his furfriends, however what he loves most is to spend time with the other dogs that live in the shelter. He is active but he also likes to chill in his favourite spot while suntanning. He loves going out on his daily walks and behaves well when walking on a leash. We would like to see him go to an active family or to a home with other dog so he can play however, he does not need a big space as he’s just a little dude.
The adoption fee for Q is $550 and includes flight, neuter, vaccines, and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

Coffee
Marilu´s trip to one of the poorest towns on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta was supposed to be uneventful however, she could not ignore seeing a young boy on the street “playing” with two helpless small dogs while being abusive to them. She went around to ask where the boy lived and why the parents would allow such misbehavior only to find out this was a regular thing that happened every day. She talked to the grandmother of the boy who told her she did not want the dogs since she could not provide for their basic needs, including proper food. They live in a tiny house and dogs were not allowed to be inside, so they basically lived on the street. Marilu took them for a health check and fortunately, despite being malnourished and full of parasites, scary illnesses tests came back negative. She took them into her care on a life-changing adventure.
Coffee is a gorgeous American Staffordshire Terrier mix about 1.5 years old. She weighs approximately 18 kilos.
Coffee enjoys playing with her foster dog siblings, she gets along with cats and does not chase them, walks well on leash, and responds to basic commands such as “sit”, “come”, “stay” and of course her favourite…. “let’s go”. She is friendly but can be a bit shy when she meets new people but shortly after, when she knows it is safe, she comes out of her shell to make sure visitors know what a sweet girl she is. She is very social and adores getting all the love she can get from her humans, but she also likes being surrounded by a pack of dogs. She enjoys relaxing on her bed but also cuddling on her human’s bed while watching her favourite program on TV.
The adoption fee for Coffee is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She can be on a flight if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com

A neighbor of the shelter was walking around with this shaggy dog she found wandering on the street and was asking around if anybody knew who it belonged to but people didn’t seem to recognize her so she came to us and asked if we could take her. When we saw the condition, she was in, we immediately said yes. It was obvious she had been neglected for a long time; she was filthy, underweight, full of ticks and fleas and dehydrated. She was taken to the vet where she was treated for parasites, given a much-needed grooming and vitamins in preparation for shots and spay.
Teini is a beautiful small mix breed black female. She is 3 years old and weighs about 4 kilos.
After some time in the shelter, Teini has gained confidence and is showing what a good girl she is. She is very docile, she likes adults, teenagers, and young children. She gets along with the rest of the dogs and barks at cats when she first sees them, but she is not aggressive, and she interacts with them once she knows them. She loves her daily outings and walks well on leash. She is past the puppy chewing but will look for trash bins that have paper in them; maybe she is trying to find out where she came from in those documents? Staff at the shelter simply keep bathrooms and kitchen trash cabinets closed, just in case. She is not toy, food, or sleeping area possessive and her favorite thing is relaxing in her sofa spot with a treat every day. At night, she goes around the shelter to make sure everything is in order before she finds her place to spend the night. Teini is a very smart girl, she likes socializing with other dogs so a family with more dogs would be ideal.
The adoption fee for Teini is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting. She will be flying to Vancouver, BC on May 10th. Please submit an application at mexpup.com.

Blanquita
Stray dogs do not necessarily roam on the streets; some of them live up in the mountains, especially around the poor areas of town. Nayeli does not know if Blanquita was dumped in the deserted area or if she got out of a house and did not know her way back. In any case, it was clear she needed help. She was underweight, full of fleas and filthy. She was taken to the Vet were a general check up was done, treated for internal and external parasites and tested for all scary illnesses which fortunately came back negative. She was taken into Nayeli’s care and her fate changed for good at that moment.
Blanquita is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix about 6 months old . She weights approximately 14 kilos.
Blanquita is a healthy and happy puppy that loves to play, play, play all day. She loves her foster siblings and people of all ages. She has been around cats and does not react to them. She could be quite shy when meeting new people but her excitement for playing and getting attention is bigger so she lets them get close. She loves her daily walks which are always too short, in her opinion, as she still has more to sniff and discover. She would do great with a back yard and an active family with children or teenagers would be great for her.
The adoption fee for Blanquita is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com
Jessie
Claudia did not understand why a beautiful little dog could have been tied to a tree on the street without access to food and water but she knew for sure she was not going to leave her behind. She asked around and nobody seemed to know where that broken little soul came from so, she did what her heart dictated; untied the dog and put her in the car to take her to the vet to get checked. After tests were done and being sure she did not have any scary illnesses, gave her de-worming, treatment for ticks and vitamins to recover weight and strength, the new Jessie headed to the shelter for a good wash and proper food and water.
Jessie is a beautiful small to midsize Mexican mutt (one of the best-known breeds) about 2 years old and weighs approximately 6.5 kilos.
Jessie is a friendly girl that gets along with all the dogs and cats in the shelter as well as adults and children of all ages. She would share her food and toys with the rest of the dogs during play time, walks good on leash and is house trained. She enjoys her long daily walks in the neighborhood which are quite challenging for her as she wants to chase bikes or motorbikes when they come out of nowhere but also responds well to corrections; a strong NO will take care of that. She is shy at first when meeting new people but after a bit she warms up and shows how adorable she can be. Jessie also got the chance to spend some time in a foster home in downtown PV and this is what her foster home had to say about her: “Jessie has been a welcome guest in my home. She gets along well with my 12 year old dog and the neighborhood dogs. Jessie walks well on a leash and is fully house-trained, able to go quite a few hours inside without accidents. Jessie likes to play with toys and loves her walks. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an energetic young lady. Jessie is very affectionate and loves to snuggle.
The adoption fee for Jessie is $550 and includes flight, spay, vaccines and full vetting. He can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found. Please email [email protected] or submit an application on mexpup.com
