Saturday's travel day started out just as any other. Guardian Angel and MexPup's leading lady Patty headed north with 3 pups, Patches, Jerry and Kira. Unfortunately, during a stopover in San Francisco, the worst thing possible happened. When the flight crew opened the hold to remove the luggage, out popped Kira and off she ran! The airport personal held flights and diverted them to a different runway while she was being pursued. She made it to the far part of the airport and found a tiny slit in an entrance gate. At that point, she was no longer contained on airport property. Alaska, airport police and airport security operations continued to look for her, but she was no longer in the contained area of the airport grounds. A BIG thanks to Alaska Airlines. They had numerous people working on this, they never left Patty's side while she was still at SFO, and they offered to help in so many ways. They never thought Kira was “just a dog”. Their staff took out personal cars and searched the area and the service road both Saturday evening and Sunday. Kira was important to them and they cared. Although Patty had to continue on her travels with the other two pups, Alaska Airlines kept up the search for Kira and kept the communication going with with Patty and other MexPuppers in both BC and Puerto Vallarta. In comes social media... thanks to a post on the Xolo Rescue League's facebook page, a wonderful gal named Dayna saw a the post & sent MexPup a message right away. A dog that looked an awful lot like Kira was brought into Peninsula Humane Society on Sunday! We had to wait until this morning to confirm, but sure enough it was her! Someone found her near a marsh in behind the airport & brought her in. Kira will be picked up tomorrow by another fabulous MexPup volunteer Mona, and brought up to Vancouver Island this week. BIG, BIG THANK YOU's to.... Xolo Rescue League for posting and helping us. Dayna at Peninsula Humane Society for being you. And to everyone else for your wonderful thoughts, well wishes and all of your help. We cannot say how much we appreciate all of the good energy! Without you, we cannot do what we do!

We got some tough news this week. Raicilla needs an operation for her hip because of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The vet is going to do everything possible to help keep the costs down, but we expect a $1,000 to $1,300 bill for this surgery. If you would consider making a donation for Raicilla's surgery or participating in any MexPup fundraiser, we would really appreciate it. She needs our help and we want to be there for her.
Status changes deserve to be celebrated. Tobi - adoption pending, Chester - Adopted, Parche - adopted......yes, you read that correctly. We found some wonderful forever homes for some amazing pups. Thank you to the rescuers/PV foster moms, Marcella, Angeles & Sara, and to the Canada foster moms Janna, Diana & Cat, and to everyone that shared, supported, donated or did whatever they could. Don't you love happy endings!
Diana - airport greeter, pup welcoming committee extraordinaire - has completed her work and handed off Stanley & Tobi to Stephanie for their ferry ride to Vancouver Island. Thank you to all that make this possible. It takes contributions from so many people & we are always grateful for your support. YOU - if you are reading this, then you helped to make this happen. Stanley & Tobi are now proud Canadians and will never have to fear again. They will be valued members of a family.......don't we all love happy endings.
Our first blog post..... MexPup was officially launched in June of 2011. Since that time, we have rescued and placed 26 abused, abandoned and unwanted dogs, so as you can understand, we have spent the first few months running. We are barely staying stay ahead of the need and still trying to get better organized so that we can do more. There always are more dogs in need, but we have been blessed with the amount of support that we have received, and we continue to make a difference. We were hopeful in the beginning, but we didn’t have any idea just how many people cared & were willing to help us to make a difference for the street animals of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. MexPup is the sum of all of you that care, share our page, donate, volunteer, stop to help animals and do what you can to make a difference. I have met the most wonderful people in the past few months & know that I will continue to meet more. Humans that care about animal rescue are amazing, wonderful, caring, thoughtful, funny & interesting people. We are grateful for everyone’s support & continue to hope for a world with no homeless animals.
